Well-differentiated papillary mesothelial tumor (WDPMT) is a rare neoplasm characterized by a distinct papillary architecture, bland cytological features, and a propensity for superficial spread without stromal invasion. We herein report the diagnosis and management of a patient with pleural WDPMT presenting predominantly with recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax and pleural effusion, along with a review of the current literature on this entity. The patient was a 58-year-old female who presented with a two-week history of chest tightness and dyspnea on a background of recurrent spontaneous pneum

The mesothelium, which consists of a monolayer of mesothelial cells, extends over the surface of the serosal cavities (pleura, pericardium, peritoneum and tunica vaginalis). Mesothelial tumours of the tunica vaginalis is rare compared with those arise from pleura or peritoneum. According to World Health Organization 2022 Classification of Urinary and Male Genital Tumours (5th edition), mesothelial tumours of the tunica vaginalis were categorized into adenomatoid tumour, well-differentiated papillary mesothelial tumour (WDPMT) and mesothelioma. Since WDPMT of tunica vaginalis was rare, there wa

INTRODUCTION: Malignant mesothelioma is a rare neoplasm of mesothelial cells arising most frequently in the pleura or peritoneum and less frequently in the liver.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of primary hepatic mesothelioma of 41year old woman. She had no history of asbestos exposure or cancer. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed 21cm intrahepatic mass in the right lobe with many cystic lesions and few small calcifications. Pathology showed a biphasic cellular pattern. In addition, the tumor cells were positive for Calretinin, Creatine Kinase (CK)5/6, CK7, CKAEI 1/3, Wilms Tumor

The localized fibrous tumors of the pleura are rare neoplasms, also known as "benign pleural fibromas" or "localized mesotheliomas", but those names are inaccurate. The tumors are composed of undifferentiated mesenchymal cells, intermediate and differentiated fibroblasts and collagenous interstitial tissue. Their origin is normally the submesothelial layer of the visceral pleura. Mesothelial differentiation is not present. The grading of malignancy doesn't correlate with final outcome, adequacy of surgical excision being the most important factor. This neoplasm may recur but retain its basical

The fibrous tumors of the pleura are rare primary tumors, accounting for 5% of malignant pleural neoplasms, which generally originate from sub-mesothelial mesenchymal tissue of the visceral pleura. These tumours generally exhibit clinical benign behavior although 12% of solitary fibrous tumors can be malignant and have worse outcomes. These tumors are considered "giant" when the lesion > 15 cm. Surgical treatment is the best choice for both benign and malignant neoplasms. We retrospectively analyzed the main case series of giant fibrous tumors of the pleura. In addition we report our experienc

Mesotheliomas are rare and aggressive tumors that originate from mesothelial cells. Although exceedingly rare, these tumors may occur in children. Different from adult mesotheliomas, however, environmental exposures particularly to asbestos do not appear to play a major role in mesotheliomas in children, in whom specific genetic rearrangements driving these tumors have been identified in recent years. These molecular alterations may increasingly offer opportunities for targeted therapies in the future, which may provide better outcomes for these highly aggressive malignant neoplasms.

Adenomatoid tumors are rare benign neoplasms thought to be of mesothelial origin. Although most reported cases arise from the epididymis, rare cases have been reported in the spermatic cord, testicular tunica, ejaculatory ducts, prostate, and suprarenal recess. In female subjects, adenomatoid tumors are commonly found in the uterus and fallopian tubes. Because of the benign nature of this tumor, the treatment of choice is local excision. We describe a rare case of adenomatoid tumor of the testis treated by local excision.

Malignant mesotheliomas are aggressive neoplasms arising from mesothelial cells lining the body cavities. Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (MPM) account for about one-third of the cases. Though the ovarian involvement may be seen in the background of a diffuse peritoneal involvement, the presentation of MPM as a primary ovarian mass is rare. Here we present such a case who underwent surgery but had residual progressive lesion. She received further chemotherapy resulting in a complete response and is disease free for almost a year.

Endometriosis is a clinical entity affecting up to 10% of women of reproductive age, characterized by ectopic endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. While extrapelvic endometriosis has been documented, pancreatic endometriosis remains extremely rare and poses significant diagnostic challenges due to its similarity to other pancreatic diseases. At the same time, splenic mesothelial cysts are also rare and typically benign. This report presents a unique case of pancreatic endometriosis coexisting with a splenic mesothelial cyst in a 31-year-old woman. The patient presented to the emergen

Well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma (WDPM) is an uncommon mesothelial neoplasm, which is generally regarded as benign or indolent in terms of its clinical behavior. However, details about WDPM have remained relatively unknown. Therefore, in this study, we examined six incidentally detected cases of WDPM of the peritoneum. All six cases were surgically excised, without any additional therapeutic measures. None of the cases showed recurrence. All six cases presented single lesions and the tumor sizes ranged from 2 to 10 mm. Histologically, all six cases exhibited papillary proliferation o

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare neoplasm with poor prognosis. The pleural form is defined as a malignant tumor of mesothelial cells with a diffuse growth pattern involving the visceral and parietal surfaces of the pleura. To our knowledge, there have only been two reported cases in the literature where fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of a lymph node was the primary mode of diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma. We describe a 40-yr-old male in whom the primary diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma was made by FNA of a supraclavicular lymph node. The mesothelial origin of the tumor was confirmed with

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm that stems from the mesothelial cells lining the visceral cavities, namely, the pleura, peritoneum, pericardium, and tunica vaginalis of the testes. MPM is the most common variant of these and constitutes up to 80% of all malignant mesotheliomas. It is usually associated with asbestos exposure and is a locally invasive neoplasm that spreads along pleura and can involve lungs with locoregional metastasis. Diagnosis remains challenging due to the latency between asbestos exposure and clinical presentation and the variable cli

Well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma is an uncommon mesothelial neoplasm that most frequently arises in the peritoneal cavity of women of reproductive age. Whereas malignant mesothelioma is an aggressive tumor associated with poor outcome, well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma typically exhibits indolent behavior. However, histologically differentiating between these two entities can be challenging, necessitating the development of distinguishing biomarkers. While the genetic alterations that drive malignant mesothelioma have recently been determined, the molecular pathogenesis of w

Adenomatoid tumors are rare benign mesothelial neoplasm involving the Para testicular region, mostly the tail of the epididymis. However, it may occur in some other parts of the genitourinary system. A definitive diagnosis of the tumor is very important because it is very difficult to differentiate it clinically and radiologically from the other intrascrotal tumors. Herein, we report a case of adenomatoid tumor of the epididymis in a 60-year old male patient, with its clinical data and review of the literature.

Metastases to the heart and pericardium are much more common than primary malignant neoplasms. Primary malignant pericardial mesothelioma is a rare tumor that arises from the mesothelial cells of the pericardium. It is usually characterized by a delayed diagnosis, a low response to treatment, and a poor prognosis with an overall survival up to six months after the onset of symptoms. We report a rare case of a 32-year-old woman with primary pericardial malignant mesothelioma that was diagnosed 4 months after the onset of pericardial effusion as the first clinical manifestation.

UNLABELLED: Cystic mesotheliomas (also called mesothelial inclusion cysts) are rare benign neoplasms that occur more often in young women. Symptoms are usually non-specific, demanding a thorough work-up. We report a case of a 40-year-old female patient with 2 prior caesarean sections presenting with a 3-month history of abdominal pain. Laboratory tests revealed microcytic hypochromic anaemia and an elevated tumour marker CA-125. An investigation identified a large cystic abdominal mass, mostly in the left side of the abdomen. A laparotomy was performed with total resection of the lesion. Histo

Intraperitoneal spread may occur with gynecological epithelial neoplasms, as well as with non-gynecological malignancies, which may result in serosal involvement with or without concomitant effusion. Therefore, washings in patients with abdominopelvic tumors represent important specimens for cytologic examination. They are primarily utilized for staging ovarian cancers, although their role has decreased in staging of endometrial and cervical carcinoma. Abdominopelvic washings can be positive in a variety of pathologic conditions, including benign conditions, borderline neoplastic tumors, local

The diverse non-neoplastic lesions that occur in the paratesticular region and may potentially mimic neoplasms are considered. These include some aspects of normal histology such as a cribriform pattern of the epididymis, bizarre nuclear atypia within epididymal epithelial cells and the presence of Leydig cells outside the testicular parenchyma. Inflammatory changes associated with a hydrocele and a variety of granulomatous and nongranulomatous infectious disorders may mimic a neoplasm on gross evaluation, but should be readily distinguished from them microscopically. This is also the case wit

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Peritoneal benign cystic mesothelioma is a rare benign tumor that originates from a mesothelial proliferative lesion of the peritoneum. However, proper surgical management remains unclear due to its low incidence. We report a clinical case of peritoneal benign cystic mesothelioma treated with cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
