Uterine fibroids are the most commonly encountered benign uterine tumors in women of reproductive age. As progesterone is known to play a key role in promoting myoma growth, the goal of the study was to analyze the efficacy of selective progesterone receptor modulators (SPRMs). CASE REPORT: The case concerns a 31 year-old woman with no previous history who consulted due to decreased vision in both eyes. She mentioned taking 1 pill of ulipristal acetate (30mg) as an emergency contraceptive four days before the visual symptoms appeared. In the examination, a better corrected visual acuity of 0.6 was found in the right eye and 0.8 in left eye (by Snellen chart), and bilateral macular serous detachment. It was decided to observe, and 15 days later she showed a functional and anatomical improvement.

BACKGROUND: Emergency contraception includes several methods of contraception that can be used after unprotected sexual intercourse, after failure of any used method of contraception or in case of sexual abuse, to prevent pregnancy.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The aim of the study was to analyze the available methods of emergency contraception, their mechanisms of action, efficacy, forms of administration, clinical applications and possible adverse effects.

A new combined oral contraceptive called Zoely has just been marketed in Belgium. It contains nomegestrol acetate, a progestin known for its high contraceptive reliability based on its antigonadotropic power and long half-life. This progestin is associated with estradiol and Zoely is devoid of ethinyl estradiol, which is the usual component of the majority of combined oral contraceptives and is primarily responsible for thrombotic side effects of the pill. The compositon and type of regimen of this new oral contraceptive contribute to its efficacy and excellent clinical tolerance.
