A relational database within the Leg Club Network: an audit.

The growing prevalence of venous leg ulcers in an ageing population presents challenges for wound care and management. The Lindsay Leg Club model is an alternative approach to the management of leg health that can improve patient outcomes. This article reports on an audit of a relational database located within the Leg Club Network, containing records of more than 17 000 patients (known as members) who attended a Leg Club in a 5-year period (2014-2019). Overall, over 266 000 member leg assessments and treatments were entered into the database. The average nurse-member attendance time was 28 mi

Assessing the Respect of Children's Rights in Pediatric Hospitals.

Background and Objectives: In 1989, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), with a considerable number of the Articles of the Convention being related to the health status of children. Therefore, adhering to and assessing the implementation of the rights of children during hospitalization is a very important step towards child protection. Herein, we attempt to highlight the depth of knowledge of employees working in children's hospitals with regard to children's rights as well as the degree of adherence to the UNCRC wit

[The head nurse faced with nurses' rites of passages].

The caregivers, faced with a death, have repetitive and meaningless attitudes. The concept of rite, developed by Pierre CAZE-NEUVE, reveals that a rite can be characterized by three elements: stereotyped, repetitive and meaningless. The passage rite is made up of three steps: separation, margin and aggregation. The passage rites are defence mechanisms installed by the caregivers to fight against an element which they do not master, the death of a patient. The role of the head nurse can come in three forms: a protection role in order to give caregivers good working conditions, an attention face

More than a placement: A scoping review of the theoretical foundations shaping workplace learning for future nurses.

BACKGROUND: Workplace learning is essential for preparing undergraduate nursing students for complex healthcare environments. Despite its central role in developing competence and professional identity, the theoretical foundations of workplace curricula remain poorly articulated. A clearer understanding of how theory informs workplace learning is needed to design curricula that align with clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: To identify the educational theories underpinning workplace learning in undergraduate nursing education and how they are enacted in practice. METHODS: We conducted a scoping re

Risk factors of nutritional blindness and determinants of a successful vitamin A prophylaxis programme.

Data on 7668 children (0-72 months) and their 4621 mothers and 81 Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) collected for the USAID Assisted ICDS Evaluation Surveys were analysed. The results indicated that the major risk factors of nutritional blindness were lack of nutrition and health knowledge among mothers; presence of iron deficiency anemia in the children; and history of the child having had measles in the past one year. Mother's health and nutrition, knowledge and maternal literacy status were the determinants of the success of a vitamin A prophylaxis programme. Factors that determined AWW's performanc

Management by Walking Around and Nurses' Voice Behaviour: A Structural Equation Modelling Approach to the Mediating Role of Trust in Intensive Care Units.

BACKGROUND: Management by walking around (MBWA) is a leadership practice in which head nurses maintain a visible presence in clinical settings, interact directly with nurses, promote open communication, observe workflow and foster a supportive work environment. These practices may contribute to building nurses' trust and encouraging them to speak up. AIM: To examine the direct and indirect effects of head nurses' MBWA on nurses' voice behaviour with trust as a single mediating variable. STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional correlational design was employed using a convenience sample of nurses wor

Culturally-Tailored Health Literacy: A Pilot Study of VHV-Led Cannabis Harm Reduction Under Nursing Supervision in Rural Northern Thailand.

Thailand's cannabis policy transition created a knowledge vacuum regarding the boundaries between authorized medicinal use and non-medical consumption, thereby increasing misuse risks. This study evaluated a culturally-tailored medicinal cannabis health literacy program delivered by Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) under public health nursing supervision as a community-based harm reduction strategy. An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was employed in Northern Thailand. Phase 1 surveyed baseline health literacy ( n = 462 ). Phase 2 involved focus groups to co-design the intervention

[Coordination for a successful return home].

The organisation of the return home of a dependent person is an important stage in their care. Good coordination between the different healthcare and social professionals enable their needs to be assessed in order for adapted solutions to be offered. In this global approach, the teams take into account not only the patient in their living environment but also their family carer.

A Mixed-Methods Pilot Evaluation of a Principled Negotiation Conflict Resolution Training Program for Newly Promoted Nurse Clinicians.

BACKGROUND: Newly promoted nurse clinicians must manage conflict among former peers while adapting to supervisory duties, yet transition-specific conflict training remains limited. METHOD: A mixed-methods pilot evaluation was conducted in a tertiary academic medical center. Twenty-four nurse clinicians (≤ 6 months in the role) attended four weekly, 2-hour sessions based on principled negotiation (separating the people from the problem; focusing on interests rather than positions; generating options for mutual gain; using objective criteria). Kirkpatrick Levels 1 to 3 were assessed using a pre

Social support in the workplace: nurse leader implications.

The state of the science as it relates to the stress-mediating role of social support in the health care work environment is explored. The ability to build a nursing leadership workforce is dependent upon a type of social support mechanism that mediates the inherent stress that comes along with managerial positions. Independent of the inevitable work-related stress associated with the nurse manager role, social support provided to current and aspiring nurse leaders is assumed to assist with coping and thriving in the work environment.
