Nurse-patient interaction after training in integrity promoting care at a long-term ward: analysis of video-recorded morning care sessions.

Morning care is a complex and problematic task for the demented patient, who has problems in understanding and coping with the situation. A training programme of integrity promoting care was given to the staff of a long-term ward and improvements of care were implemented during a 3 month intervention period. To evaluate possible effects, different parameters were used and compared with the data of a control ward. This report describes how caregivers behaved towards demented patients during morning care, before and after the training, and how patients' behaviour changed. The results are based o

Nursing home family involvement and activities of daily living during COVID-19: A secondary cross-sectional analysis of electronic health record data.

PURPOSE: Nursing home residents' family involvement changed during COVID-19. We sought to understand whether there was an association between resident family involvement and activities of daily living (ADL) levels. This cross-sectional secondary analysis used electronic health record (EHR) data to compare quarterly resident ADL outcomes from the year before COVID-19 and the first year during COVID-19 among residents who had evidence of family involvement prior to COVID-19. Both ADLs and family involvement serve as key indicators of overall resident well-being. METHODS: Using retrospective sec

Nurse Staffing Level, Length of Work Experience, and Risk of Health Care-Associated Infections Among Hospital Patients: A Prospective Record Linkage Study.

BACKGROUND: Nurse understaffing may have several adverse consequences for patients in hospitals, such as health care-associated infections (HAIs), but there is little longitudinal evidence available on staffing levels and HAIs with consideration of incubation times to confirm this. Using daily longitudinal data, we analyzed temporal associations between nurse understaffing and limited work experience, and the risk of HAIs. METHODS: The study was based on administrative data of 40 units and 261,067 inpatient periods for a hospital district in Finland in 2013-2019. Survival analyses with moving

Comparison between nurse anesthetists and anesthesiology residents of blood pressure management during general anesthesia: a retrospective analysis using an electronic anesthesia record database.

BACKGROUND: Several Japanese educational institutions have begun to train nurse anesthetists. They manage the patient consistently from pre-operation to post-operation in collaboration with the anesthesiologist. This has helped improve the quality of anesthetic management in an anesthesiologist shortage environment in Japan. However, no studies have examined the quality of anesthetic management by nurses worldwide. Therefore, this study investigated the quality of anesthesia among novice anesthesiology residents and nurse anesthetists, focusing on blood pressure control. METHODS: This study i

Association of a Physician-Nurse Collaborative Multimodal Analgesic Pathway with Early Pain Trajectories and Institution-Recorded Opioid Use After Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Propensity Score-Matched Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Multimodal analgesia is widely used after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but evidence regarding the real-world effectiveness of bundled opioid-sparing pathways remains limited. This study compared a standardized physician-nurse collaborative pathway with conventional care delivered during an earlier historical period. METHODS: This single-center retrospective cohort study included adults undergoing primary unilateral TKA. The modified pathway combined physician-prescribed scheduled celecoxib and tramadol/paracetamol rescue analgesia with nurse-delivered cryotherapy, limb elevation
