The study assessed the ability of the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV) to detect pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) using receiver operating characteristic analyses. The sample consisted of 114 cases with current OCD, 340 cases with other psychiatric disorders (OPD), and 301 healthy controls (HC) ages 7 to 18 years. All 755 participants were assessed with two semi-structured interviews and seven rating scales. In a comparison of current OCD cases and all other participants, the optimal OCI-CV cut-score was 11 with an area under the curve (AUC) of .88. In a compa

INTRODUCTION: A growing literature suggests that obsessive-compulsive (OC) phenomena represent a distinct dimension in schizophrenia, independent of nuclear psychotic symptoms. Nevertheless, the OC psychopathologic profile in schizophrenia, compared with "pure" obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), has not yet been investigated extensively. This study investigated the clinical features of the OC dimension in patients with schizophrenia compared with patients with pure OCD.
METHODS: The main psychopathologic features of obsessions and compulsions were rated in 35 patients with schizophrenia and

A substantial proportion of individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) do not endorse the dysfunctional beliefs proposed by cognitive models of OCD to be important in the onset and maintenance of symptoms. Previous research has attempted to characterize Low and High obsessive beliefs groups in terms of cognitive and symptom correlates to distil potential etiological differences in these subgroups of OCD patients. The current study sought to further examine potential neurocognitive differences between obsessive beliefs subgroups. Performance on the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) w

The present study investigated the relation of compulsive hoarding to other obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms in a sample of 162 patients with OCD. Obsessions and compulsions reported on the Anxiety Disorders Interview Schedule for DSM-IV were submitted to an exploratory factor analysis. Results suggested a four-factor model: "Certainty," "Contamination," "Obsessions," and "Numbers/Ordering." Hoarding did not load on any factor. The sample was divided into three groups: pure hoarding, nonhoarding OCD, and mixed OCD and hoarding. The hoarding group endorsed significantly less anxiety

Background/Objectives: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a complex psychiatric condition often associated with alterations in cognitive processes, including memory. Although memory dysfunction has been proposed as a contributing factor to the onset and maintenance of OCD symptoms, it remains debated whether these deficits reflect genuine cognitive impairments or maladaptive metacognitive processes, such as pathological doubt and memory distrust. This review aims to synthesize current findings on memory functioning in OCD, focusing on distinct memory systems and the role of metacognition.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) affects approximately 1.3% of adults and is characterized by intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) aimed at alleviating distress. Despite its impact on daily functioning, OCD remains underdiagnosed. Models suggest that OCD arises from maladaptive learning processes and/or biological factors, such as genetic predispositions and dysfunctional abnormalities in the cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical loops. First line treatment for OCD in Sweden is exposure and response prevention (ERP), a form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) affects approximately 2% of the population worldwide and is also prevalent in other neuropsychiatric disorders. Serotonin reuptake inhibitors have limited widespread success. Alternate treatment options for OCD and other indications are highlighted using 3-bromo-lysergic acid diethylamide.

Cognitive neuroscientific research has the ability to yield important insights into the complex neurobiological processes underlying obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This article provides an updated review of neuroimaging studies in seven neurocognitive domains. Findings from the literature are discussed in the context of obsessive-compulsive phenomenology and treatment. Expanding our knowledge of the neural mechanisms involved in OCD could help optimize treatment outcomes and guide the development of novel interventions.

The pathophysiology of the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been studied for many years using several structural magnetic resonance imaging, discovering that the anomalies of function and structure of the brain are widespread, they involve different areas, structures and circuits with a complex interconnectivity. More than that, these anomalies cover all the life of a patient, from early childhood, due to variations of developmental stages until adult life. The research is highly important also because OCD has a major hereditary factor, with the phenotype variance between 27-47% due to

Obsessive-compulsive-like symptomatology may be present in various psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia. This has been described since Kraepelin and Bleuler. In this review, we draw attention to the often ignored notion of pseudo-obsession. The concept can add to the distinction between true obsession in OCD and related psychopathological phenomena in the schizophrenia spectrum disorders and improve diagnostic practice. The recent changes in the diagnostic manuals have made this distinction more difficult by allowing a lack of insight and delusional beliefs in the diagnostic criteria

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Here, we propose to review the immuno-inflammatory hypothesis in OCD given the concurrent incidence of autoimmune comorbidities, infectious stigma, and raised levels of inflammatory markers in a significant subset of patients. A better understanding of the immune dysfunction in OCD may allow stratifying the patients in order to design personalized pharmaco/psychotherapeutic strategies.
RECENT FINDINGS: A persistent low-grade inflammation involving both innate and adaptive immune system with coexisting autoimmune morbidities and stigma of infectious events has been prominent

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is present in 1.5-2.5% of the population and can result in substantial lifelong disability. It is characterized by intrusive thoughts, sensations, and urges and by repetitive behaviors that are difficult to control despite, in most cases, preserved insight as to their excessive or irrational nature. The causes and underlying pathophysiology of OCD are not well understood, which has limited the development of new treatments and interventions. Despite evidence for a substantial genetic contribution to disease risk, identification and replication of genetic var

People with epilepsy (PWE) often suffer psychiatric symptoms which can impact them more than seizures. Affective and psychotic disorders are well recognized as occurring more frequently in PWE than the general population. Less is known about obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in PWE, despite it being as disabling and distressing. We sought to explore the association between epilepsy and OCD with casereports by identifying ten PWE and concomitant OCD. Demographics, seizure classification, neurological, surgical, psychiatric and psychological treatment as well as quality of life were examined.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic illness that can cause marked distress and disability. It is a complex disorder with a variety of manifestations and symptom dimensions, some of which are underrecognized. Early recognition and treatment with OCD-specific therapies may improve outcomes, but there is often a delay in diagnosis. Patients can experience significant improvement with treatment, and some may achieve remission. Recommended first-line therapies are cognitive behavior therapy, specifically exposure and response prevention, and/or a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor

The early course in clinical and neurobiological terms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is almost completely unknown. The disease often begins in early childhood and adolescence, but the first behavioral changes and symptoms preceding OCD have not been assessed to date. In this retrospective approach, 40 patients with OCD (23 females/17 males; 39.4 [10.1] years old in average; with scores on the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale [Y-BOCS] of 19 [9.3]) were given an author-developed questionnaire. Twenty-three patients reported first changes before having reached the age of 20 years. R

Around 40-60% of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder do not show adequate response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Augmentation strategies are recommended in people who show partial response to SSRI treatment or poor response to multiple SSRIs. In this article, the authors review the evidence for augmentation strategies. The available evidence is predominantly based on small-scale, randomized controlled trials, open-label trials and case series. Antipsychotic augmentation, especially risperidone, haloperidol, aripiprazole and cognitive-behavior therapy have shown th

BACKGROUND: Research on anger attacks has been mostly limited to depression, and only a few studies have focused on anger attacks in obsessive compulsive disorder.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a cross-sectional study all new obsessive compulsive disorder patients aged 20-60 years attending an outpatient clinic were assessed using the anger attack questionnaire, irritability, depression and anxiety scale (for the direction of the aggressive behavior) and quality of life (QOL).
RESULTS: The sample consisted of 42 consecutive subjects with obsessive compulsive disorder, out of which 21 (50%) had a

Historically, scurvy has been associated with sailors of great navigational epochs. This disease has been known since ancient Egypt, but nowadays it is almost forgotten. Although its prevalence has decreased over the centuries, scurvy is still present in developed countries. A 61-year-old man was referred to hospital with a 30-day history of anorexia, fatigue, gingival bleeding and ecchymosis of the arms and legs. On physical examination he presented gingival hypertrophic lesions, signs of chronic periodontitis and petechial rash, and several bruises on his arms and legs. A food frequency ques

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is an illness that can cause marked distress and disability. It often goes unrecognized and is undertreated. Primary care physicians should be familiar with the various ways obsessive-compulsive disorder can present and should be able to recognize clues to the presence of obsessions or compulsions. Proper diagnosis and education about the nature of the disorder are important first steps in recovery. Treatment is rarely curative, but patients can have significant improvement in symptoms. Recommended first-line therapy is cognitive behavior therapy with exposure and
