Treatment of psoriasis and other dermatoses with a single application of a corticosteroid left under a hydrocolloid occlusive dressing for one week.

Lotions of five different corticosteroids were applied on 3 X 4 cm areas of large infiltrated chronic psoriatic plaque in eight patients, and left occluded with a hydrocolloid dressing (Actiderm) for one week. Area treated with clobetasol, betamethasone and triamcinolone were clinically healed within one week in four patients, but slight residual erythema was observed in the other four. Hydrocortisone-treated areas showed better improvement than the non-steroid-treated control area, where infiltration and erythema remained unchanged. In 44 patients with psoriasis, lichen planus, chronic lichen

[Localized amyloidosis of the ureter and bladder treated effectively by occlusive dressing technique therapy using dimethyl sulfoxide: a case report].

We report here the first case of localized amyloidosis of the ureter and bladder to be treated effectively by occlusive dressing technique therapy using dimethyl sulfoxide. The patient was a 48-year-old woman whose chief complaint was macrohematuria and right back pain. Ultrasound sonography demonstrated right hydronephrosis and an intravesical mass in the region of the right ureteral orifice. Retrograde pyelography revealed severe stricture of the right lower ureter. Cystoscopy demonstrated a yellow submucosal tumor around the right ureteral orifice. We suspected urinary tract amyloidosis, an

Prevention of amputation caused by rheumatic diseases following a novel therapy of exposing bone marrow, occlusive dressing and subsequent epidermal grafting.

BACKGROUND: Wounds with exposed bones caused by rheumatic diseases commonly result in amputation despite progress in our understanding of wound-healing mechanisms. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether an experimental therapy of bone marrow exposure, an occlusive dressing and subsequent grafting of epidermal sheets accelerates healing and reduces the need for amputation in patients with rheumatic diseases. METHODS: Fifteen patients, including those with rheumatoid arthritis or systemic sclerosis, who had wounds with exposed bones were treated either with the standard procedure, consisting of loca

Long-term functional outcome after conservative management of a fingertip amputation with exposed bone, using a semi-occlusive dressing: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Semi-occlusive dressings are established for selected fingertip amputations with exposed bone. Because this treatment is well described, the value of single-case reports depends on documenting the course, limitations, and long-term sequelae. CASE PRESENTATION: A 47-year-old right-hand-dominant man presented to primary care after a mandoline-slicer injury causing partial amputation of the right little fingertip, with an exposed distal phalanx and a preserved nail bed, clinically consistent with an Allen type II injury. A transparent, semi-occlusive polyurethane dre

Silver-impregnated occlusive dressing is associated with a lower rate of acute surgical site infection after direct anterior total hip arthroplasty.

INTRODUCTION: The direct anterior approach (DAA) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) has gained increasing adoption in recent years; however, it has been associated with a higher risk of wound-related complications compared with other surgical approaches. Silver-impregnated occlusive dressings have demonstrated antimicrobial potential, though their role in DAA THA remains underexplored. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study with a historical control group, reviewing 321 consecutive primary DAA THAs performed by a single surgeon (September 2020-December 2025). Standard

A Randomized, Single-Blind Trial of Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% Cream Under Silicone Dressing Occlusion Versus Intra-Lesional Triamcinolone for Treatment of Keloid.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Keloid is conventionally treated with intra-lesional (IL) triamcinolone, which is highly operator dependent and has its own adverse effects. Topical steroid and silicone dressings are a patient friendly and non-invasive treatment alternative. We therefore sought to determine the efficacy and safety of topical clobetasol propionate (Dermovate®) 0.05% cream under occlusion with Mepiform® silicone dressing compared to IL triamcinolone in the treatment of keloid. METHODS: This was a prospective, randomised, observer-blinded study. Two keloids on the same site were random

Treatment of pretibial myxedema (PTM) with topical steroid ointment application with sealing cover (steroid occlusive dressing technique: steroid ODT) in Graves' patients.

Localized pretibial myxedema (PTM) is a sign of Graves' disease. A 53-year-old man with Graves' disease was admitted with the development of PTM following radioisotope (131)I treatment for Graves' hyperthyroidism. TSH receptor antibody (TRAb) titer was also increased after (131)I treatment. TRAb was measured as thyroid stimulating antibody (TSAb) or TSH-binding inhibitory immunoglobulin (TBII). PTM was noted several months after (131)I treatment. The PTM-development seems to be associated with the increased TRAb-activities. The localized pretibial myxedema was effectively treated with topical

Nail Regeneration of an Allen III Fingertip Amputation After a Dog Bite Using the Semi-occlusive Dressing Technique: A Case Report and Literature Review.

There is ongoing controversy regarding the best treatment of fingertip amputations, conservative treatment with secondary healing or surgical intervention. Healing by secondary intention has been proven to offer satisfactory recovery and function. More extensive wounds are treated surgically. However, even in Allen III and IV amputations, there is a lack of evidence to support enhanced healing and function of fingertips after surgical treatment compared to conservative management. Regarding fingertip amputations after animal bites, thorough debridement is the preferred treatment due to various

Study on the effect of negative pressure occlusion drainage combined with silver ion dressing on inflammatory factors (IL-6, TNF-α) and healing effect of diabetic foot ulcer.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot ulcers impair quality of life and prognosis in diabetes. IL-6 and TNF-α regulate wound healing through inflammation. Although negative pressure wound therapy and silver dressings aid chronic wound repair, their combined efficacy in DFUs remains understudied. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess how negative pressure occlusion drainage combined with silver ion dressing affects inflammatory cytokine levels (IL-6, TNF-α) and wound healing in patients with diabetic foot ulcer. METHODS: This study included 78 DFU patients treated with NPWT plus silver dressings (Februar

Dressings and drains in posterior spine surgery and their effect on wound complications.

The purpose of this study was to systematically search, critically appraise and summarize published randomized control trials (RCT) and non-RCT examining the effect of drains and dressings on wound healing rates and complications in posterior spine surgery. The use of post-operative drains and the type of post-operative dressing is at the discretion of the treating surgeon with no available clinical guidelines. Drains will theoretically decrease incidence of post-operative hematoma and therefore, potentially decrease the risk of neurologic compromise when the neural elements have been exposed.

Bifonazole (Mycospor cream) in the treatment of moccasin-type tinea pedis. Comparison between combination therapy of bifonazole cream + 10% urea ointment (Urepearl) and occlusive dressing therapy with the same agents.

Moccasin-type tinea pedis(MTTP) is a hardly curable superficial dermatomycosis primarily characterized by hyperkeratosis of the sole. In this study, we compared the usefulness of combination therapy of bifonazole (Mycospor cream) + 10% urea ointment (Urepearl) (overlapping application group = group I) with occlusive dressing therapy with the same agents (group II) in the treatment of MTTP, and obtained the following results. (1) The clinical improvement rate (percentage of "marked improvement" and "moderate improvement") was 60.4% in group I and 83.3% in group II. (2) The mycological eradicati

Management of sports-induced skin wounds.

Skin wounds are common in sports but are rarely documented by the certified athletic trainer. The literature is unclear about wound types, and none of the articles reviewed reported frequencies. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the frequency of common athletic skin wounds and their specific management. Management of skin wounds can sometimes be problematic. Hydrogen peroxide has been used on wounds since 1947, yet some researchers report that hydrogen peroxide and iodophor solution can delay or interfere with wound healing, or cause damage to the wounded area if use is intense and prolo

Venous ulcers: pathophysiology and medical therapy.

Venous ulcers may occur as a result of lower extremity calf pump failure, with ensuing edema, trapping of white blood cells and deposition of pericapillary fibrin. Acute, smaller lesions are easily treated with adequate compression and occlusive dressings. Larger, more chronic wounds often benefit from some form of external compression. Occlusive dressings and local wound care are most effective when used simultaneously with compression. Sequential compression pumps merit study and may prove to be of therapeutic and prophylactic value. In refractory cases, long-term use of compression devices

[Non pharmacological treatment of severe cutaneous infections: hyperbaric oxygen therapy, dressings and local treatments].

Beside conventional therapy, the management of necrotizing cellulitis and fasciitis is based on non-pharmacological treatments. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy and dressings are the most frequently used techniques. The usefulness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is clearly demonstrated in experimental studies while the efficacy of this technique is poorly assessed in clinical practice. The French consensus conference has concluded to an adjuvant role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy combined to intensive care management, surgery and antibiotic therapy. Occlusive conventional dressings using humid or vaselin
