Green synthesized iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticle affects the germination and growth-related characteristics of different basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) cultivars.

Conventional methods for nanoparticle (NP) synthesis often rely on unsafe chemical reduction processes. Plant-mediated green synthesis of NPs has emerged as a promising alternative to such toxic reductants. Seed priming is an effective technique for improving seed germination and plant growth characteristics. Nano-priming outperforms traditional seed priming methods owing to the nanoparticles' nanoscale dimensions and unique physicochemical properties. In this study, the extract of Mentha pulegium L. plant was used for Fe2O3-NPs synthesis. Afterward, the seeds of four basil (Ocimum basilicum L

Near-null magnetic fields remodel flavonoid profiles and essential oil content in Ocimum basilicum and are associated with altered photochemical performance and ROS homeostasis.

Exposure to hypomagnetic fields (hMF, < 40 nT) represents one of the least-characterised environmental stressors for plants. Using Ocimum basilicum L. as a compact, metabolite-rich model for bioregenerative life-support systems, we compared plants grown under hMF versus geomagnetic field (GMF, ∼44 μT) conditions. hMF significantly enhanced essential oil accumulation, with eugenol and methyl eugenol increasing 1.3- and 1.8-fold, respectively. Despite the increased accumulation of these metabolites, transcripts of key phenylpropanoid biosynthetic genes, including the two methyltransferases (ObCO
