BACKGROUND: Familial primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) is a rare, fatal, autosomal dominant disease that results in right heart failure from idiopathic obliteration of the pulmonary arteries. Patients develop stagnation of venous blood flow and elevated venous pressure.
METHODS: The authors retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of three patients diagnosed with PPH that was confirmed on the basis of physical examination, chest X-ray, electrocardiogram, and echocardiogram. Cardiac catheterization excluded cardiac shunt and other secondary causes of pulmonary hypertension.

Ocular hypertension was found in 54 (5.4%) of 1000 consecutive patients of an optometrist. In a separate trial, 50 ocular hypertensive subjects were followed for a mean follow-up time of 6.9 years. Five of the ocular hypertensive subjects (10%) developed primary open angle glaucoma and 2 (4%) developed primary angle-closure glaucoma. No single test could have enabled diagnosis in all five cases that developed open-angle glaucoma. Guidelines are recommended for the optometric management of patients having ocular hypertension.

We measured visual fields using three unconventional test stimuli; sine-wave grating targets of 2 and 5 cycles/degree and a visual acuity target. The Pneumatonometer of Langham was used to monitor intraocular pressure in the operating theatre and in the early postoperative period after cataract surgery. Both indomethacin and aspirin were shown to prodcue a significant reduction in the acute ocular hypertension which can be expected to follow 6 hours after routine cataract surgery. It is suggested that the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis by these drugs is probably responsible for this effect.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to correlate the degree of ocular hypertension with the number of Ozurdex injections.
METHODS: Intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuations for a total of 183 injections were studied over a period of at least 12 months. The main indications for treatment were uveitis, diabetic macular edema, and retinal vein occlusion.
