BACKGROUND: Oligodendrogliomas are primarily supratentorial tumors. However, infrequently, they can also arise from infratentorial structures. There are only limited numbers of radiological articles on the specific imaging findings of this entity.

Oligodendroglioma cells are detectable in the cerebro-spinal fluid in up to 14% of patients [10] and cerebellar and/or spinal cord involvement is a well known phenomenon [3]. A case of meningioangiomatosis occurring in a 15-year-old boy is reported. The patient did not show signs of neurofibromatosis on physical examination, and his medical history included only one previous episode of loss of consciousness, which was accompanied by a self-limited focal seizure. The lesion was associated with an oligodendroglioma and was incidentally discovered during the macroscopic sampling of the neurosurgical specimen. Computed tomographic (CT) and angiographic findings in four cases of oligodendroglioma of the lateral ventricle are reported. CT showed a midline nodular intraventricular mass containing punctate calcifications and cysts. The tumors were slightly to markedly enhanced after the infusion of contrast media. Angiography showed slightly increased vascularity in the mass, and displacement of subependymal veins near the tumor. Oligodendrogliomas of the lateral ventricle are rare but should be included in the differential diagnosis of intraventricular tumors near the foramen of Monro.

We present the case of a 45-year-old female patient who harbored two synchronous primary malignant neoplasms-an anaplastic oligodendroglioma of the right frontal lobe and a squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. Both neoplasms were in advanced stage and carried a dismal prognosis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first documentation in the english literature of such a presentation. The purpose of this article is to alert clinicians to this possibility and to outline the management approach in a different manner in patients presenting with multiple primary neoplasms.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The goal of this study was to analyze the main aspects of oligodendrogliomas observed in children.
METHOD: The records of 35 children aged 15 years or younger (23 from Marseilles and 12 from Lyons) were reviewed. Clinical signs and symptoms, imaging findings (CT scan and pre- and post-operative MRI), extent of surgical resection, histology according to the WHO and Ste-Anne grading and survival were analysed. Considering all these factors, a statistical analyzis was undertaken in order to identify prognostic factors.

On the basis of a study of 84 verified cases of supratentorial oligodendrogliomas of extraventricular localization, the traits of the epileptic syndrome were studied. Among the spectal traits found more frequently, compared to those of other tumors, is the frequency of the epileptic syndromes, predominance of generalized attacks in the early stages of the disease, a number of viscerovegetative signs in the structure of the epileptic syndrome. The special traits of the epileptic syndrome in oligodendrogliomas are related to the character and direction of the growth of the tumours.
