Biomarkers of subclinical cholestasis predict cancer immunotherapy outcomes.

In a recent paper published in Cancer Cell, we identified subclinical cholestasis as an accessible imprint of gut dysbiosis predicting resistance to immune checkpoint blockade. Our work connects γ-glutamyl transferase, bile-acid remodeling, and MAdCAM-1 loss to compromised antitumor immunity, opening avenues for novel biomarker-guided microbiota interventions.

Tongue Behavior in Anterior Open Bite-A Narrative Review.

Background/Objectives: Multiple factors may contribute to the development of open bite malocclusion, including genetics and environmental factors. Anterior open bite is usually related to the interposition of the tongue between the dental arches during swallowing or at rest. But how important is the role of the tongue in the development of anterior open bite? And how does anterior open bite malocclusion influence tongue behavior? With this study, we would like to offer a better understanding on the importance of tongue function in the context of this malocclusion. Methods: In this narrative re

Soft tissue pathology around the hip.

Snapping hip syndromes have been treated with open surgery for many years. Recently, endoscopic techniques have been developed for treatment of snapping hip syndromes with results that are at least comparable if not better than those reported for open procedures. The greater trochanteric pain syndrome is well known by orthopedic surgeons. However, deep understanding of the pathologic conditions generating pain in the greater trochanteric region and endoscopic access to it has only recently been described. Although evidence regarding endoscopic techniques for the treatment of the greater trocha

Access to maternal health services for young women with disabilities in Sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Young women with disabilities (WWDs) face multiple barriers in accessing maternal healthcare services in low-resource settings. Consequently, they are at an increased risk of adverse maternal health outcomes due to young age and having a disability. This review focuses on synthesising evidence regarding the extent of access to maternal healthcare services and the barriers faced by young WWDs in Sub-Saharan Africa. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will conduct a scoping review guided by the updated Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for scoping reviews. A systematic search of MEDLINE, E

Open access lecture videos: sharing veterinary bacteriology and mycology on YouTube.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, educators rapidly pivoted their instructional approaches. While this period of disruption is behind us, we are left with a legacy of experiences that can continue to benefit learners. Open educational resources improve accessibility in the classroom, and for learners globally without access to well-resourced institutional libraries. In the 2023-2024 academic year, lecture videos for Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology (a 3-credit, second year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) course at the University of Saskatchewan) were published on YouTube. Two student cohor

Digital Presence of Health Authorities in Germany and Switzerland: Implications for Open Public Health Data Readiness.

Open health data is arguably the cornerstone of modern public health strategy, enabling data-driven policymaking and promoting transparency. The extent and format of health data publication, however, vary widely across jurisdictions, especially within multi-tiered health governance systems. This study subsequently investigates the digital presence and open data strategies of health authorities in Germany and Switzerland, focusing on their official websites as the primary interface for public communication. A structured content assessment was conducted for 16 German state-level public health au

New mutations and an updated database for the patched-1 (PTCH1) gene.

BACKGROUND: Basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by multiple basal cell carcinomas (BCCs), maxillary keratocysts, and cerebral calcifications. BCNS most commonly is caused by a germline mutation in the patched-1 (PTCH1) gene. PTCH1 mutations are also described in patients with holoprosencephaly. METHODS: We have established a locus-specific database for the PTCH1 gene using the Leiden Open Variation Database (LOVD). We included 117 new PTCH1 variations, in addition to 331 previously published unique PTCH1 mutations. These new mutations were found in
