The SAFE strategy for trachoma control: Using operational research for policy, planning and implementation.

Trachoma is a neglected disease and also the world's leading infectious cause of blindness. It causes misery, dependency and is a barrier to development. Trachoma is controlled by a WHO-endorsed integrated strategy of surgery for trichiasis, antibiotic therapy, facial cleanliness and environmental improvement, which is known by the acronym SAFE. The strategy is based on evidence from field trials and is continually being refined by operational research that informs national policy and planning; the strategy has affected both programme delivery and implementation. As a result of the findings of

Research on multi-level container security isolation operation strategy based on static game.

With the increasing pressure on rail transit passenger services, the introduction of cloud-edge collaborative computing technology into passenger service systems has emerged as a research hotspot in recent years. The key issue in applying cloud computing to passenger service systems lies in enhancing the security and reliability of applications/data within containers in cloud-edge computing environments. Since passenger service systems operate in open network environments, they are exposed to numerous security vulnerabilities and malicious cyber-attacks, potentially leading to system crashes o

Operational research leading to state-level policy change in tuberculosis undernutrition in Chhattisgarh, India.

In India, undernutrition is a key driver of the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic. The high burden of severe and very severe undernutrition leads to higher death rates among those with TB. Despite documentation of weight and height, body mass index calculations to prioritise nutrition support for those with severe and very severe undernutrition are lacking in India's National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme. This state-level operational research in Chhattisgarh led to a change in state-level policy in this regard. The learnings from this operational research-guided policy change have lessons for o

Translational Research on Orthobiologics in the Treatment of Rotator Cuff Disease: From the Laboratory to the Operating Room.

Rotator cuff disease is one of the most common human tendinopathies and can lead to significant shoulder dysfunction. Despite efforts to improve symptoms in patients with rotator cuff tears and healing rates after rotator cuff repair, high rates of failed healing and persistent shoulder morbidity exist. Increasing interest has been placed on the utilization of orthobiologics-scaffolds, cell-based augmentation, platelet right plasma (platelet-rich plasma), and small molecule-based strategies-in the management of rotator cuff disease and the augmentation of rotator cuff repairs. This is a comple

Does country of origin influence research outcomes in operative interventions for lumbar spinal stenosis?

INTRODUCTION: Bias undermines evidence-based decision making. To counter this, surgeons must be aware of biases that may influence studies' reported outcomes. Lumbar spinal stenosis often requires operative intervention, with multiple available surgical strategies. Our aim was to assess the role that country of origin plays in published surgical outcomes for lumbar spinal stenosis. METHODS: We performed a search strategy of MEDLINE and EMBASE for all English language primary research papers evaluating operative interventions for lumbar spinal stenosis during the years 2010-2019 inclusive. Challenges in Protocol Development and Interpretation of the Schistosomiasis Consortium for Operational Research and Evaluation Intervention Studies.

In 2010, the Schistosomiasis Consortium for Operational Research and Evaluation (SCORE) began the design of randomized controlled trials to compare different strategies for praziquantel mass drug administration, whether for gaining or sustaining control of schistosomiasis or for approaching local elimination of Schistosoma transmission. The goal of this operational research was to expand the evidence base for policy-making for regional and national control of schistosomiasis in sub-Saharan Africa. Over the 10-year period of its research programs, as SCORE operational research projects were imp

Clinically Evident Portal Hypertension: An Operational Research Definition for Future Investigations in the Pediatric Population.

Portal hypertension (PHT) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in pediatric liver diseases. Thus, research into causes and disease modifiers in PHT in these conditions is vitally important. PHT is rarely directly or indirectly measured in the assessment of children with chronic liver disease. A straightforward, reproducible definition of PHT could be invaluable for consistently identifying patients with PHT and for grouping these patients according to their risk of complications from their disease. We propose the term Clinically Evident Portal Hypertension (CEPH) to denote clinical find

The application of operational research (OR) procedures to maternal mortality from puerperal sepsis in a rural community.

An operation research (OR) procedure on maternal mortality from puerperal sepsis was carried out in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State of Nigeria. The study involved ten focus groups discussion (FGD) in two districts of the Local Government Area. The findings were analysed from three broad perspectives, that is, consumers' views, providers' views and community decision takers' views. In general, the analysis revealed that the community knowledge of puerperal sepsis is poor. In addition, limited access and prohibitive cost of orthodox health care services prevented the community from

Research priorities for paediatric peri-operative medicine identified by Australian children and young people.

INTRODUCTION: Parents and caregivers play a critical role in the care of their child peri-operatively. Our team undertook previous research with parents/carers, which identified Australian parents' top 10 research priorities for paediatric anaesthesia and peri-operative medicine. While this was an important exercise, it focused on parent-reported experiences rather than the priorities of the children themselves; however, the experiences and concerns of parents/carers may not always reflect those of their child. It has been shown previously how integral it is to listen to each child's own voice
