In recent years, extensive evidence has been published about usage of laser in oral lesions. The aim of the present study was to review the effectiveness of laser radiation in the treatment of pediatric oral soft tissue problems. The relevant keywords were searched in EBSCO, Medline (via Ovid), PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (WOS) databases. Then, eligible case series and controlled clinical trial studies, which published up to the end of 2018, were extracted and scrutinized. In this study, the age range of ≤ 21 years or the average age of ≤ 21 years was considered as the pediatric group.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the postoperative period of diode laser frenectomies of the lower labial frenulum (LLF) with anomalous insertions and the perceptions of postoperative pain and wound healing. This cross-sectional pilot study evaluated 3 patients who underwent mandibular labial frenectomy with a diode laser between April 2024 and July 2024. Individuals were divided into two groups according LLF insertion type and the parameters evaluated were gender, age, traumatic brushing, dentin hypersensitivity (DH), traumatic brushing, postoperative pain presence, healing, analgesic us

Most available antiseptic solutions have strong antibacterial effects, but many also possess major cytotoxic effects on gingival fibroblasts, osteoblasts, osteoprogenitor cells, and/or epithelial cells. A novel VEGA Oral Care Recovery Kit (StellaLife) consisting of 16 active ingredients that are monographed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS) has gained tremendous momentum as a replacement for more cytotoxic oral rinses such as chlorhexidine. While accumulating evidence has thus far supported its use, little of the gathered data have fully described the properties of th

AIM: Over the years, the role of the lingual frenulum in the development of skeletal structures has been evaluated. However, the effect of short lingual frenulum treatment on bone structures is unclear. We need to investigate the effect of surgery and myofunctional therapy on maxillary development. This could be the rationale to establish an orthodontic interception protocol.
METHODS: The case-control study was carried out in the Operative Unit of Pedodontics of the University Dental Clinic, at the Department of Medical, Oral and Biotechnological Sciences of the University of "G. D'Annunzio"

AIM: This case report aims to describe a rare congenital lesion of the incisive papilla with a high labial frenulum attachment, clinically mimicking congenital epulis but histopathologically diagnosed as an oral leiomyomatous hamartoma.
BACKGROUND: Oral leiomyomatous hamartoma is a very rare congenital lesion, mainly appearing on the median anterior maxilla/incisive papilla and tongue.
CASE DESCRIPTION: This clinical paper is about a rare lesion in a 6-year-old female child whose parents reported to the department with the complaint of slow-growing soft tissue overgrowth between the front te

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the distribution of maxillary labial frenum (MLF) attachment types and their potential association with the development of early childhood caries (ECC) in children aged 2 to 5 years who presented to our clinic for routine check-ups or treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 92 children aged 24-71 months (53 girls and 39 boys) were included in the study. Clinical oral examinations were performed, and MLF attachment types were recorded using Placek's classification. Standardised intraoral photographs were taken to document the anterior maxillary region

Background: Breastfeeding is vital for infant nutrition, bonding, and overall health. However, challenges can arise with the presence of tethered oral tissues, commonly known as labial (lip) tie or lingual (tongue) tie, otherwise known as ankyloglossia. This case study explores the differential resolution of breastfeeding symptoms in a one-month-old infant with both labial and lingual ties. It outlines the diagnostic process, surgical interventions, and postoperative care, emphasizing the importance of detailed characterization of symptom resolution associated with a lingual and labial frenect

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the present study was to review indexed literature and provide an update on the effectiveness of high-frequency radio waves (HRW) application in modern general dentistry procedures.
DATA SOURCES: Indexed databases were searched to identify articles that assessed the efficacy of radio waves in dental procedures.
RESULTS: Radiosurgery is a refined form of electrosurgery that uses waves of electrons at a radiofrequency ranging between 2 and 4 MHz. Radio waves have also been reported to cause much less thermal damage to peripheral tissues compared with electrosurgery or

IMPORTANCE: Frenotomy is increasingly used to treat suspected ankyloglossia in infants, but the clinical value and appropriate use of this procedure remain debated.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the incidence and geographic variation of frenotomy procedures and selected complications in Danish infants.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cohort study included all infants born in Denmark from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2024, within a universal health care system with individual-level linkage using the Danish National Health Service Register and the National Patient Registry. Matched control

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Ankyloglossia is a congenital anomaly that can affect breastfeeding. The aim was to evaluate the prevalence of ankyloglossia in newborns and breastfeeding difficulties reported by mothers; assess possible factors that may interfere with breastfeeding.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 391 pairs of mothers/newborns at a university hospital. A pediatric dentist examined the oral cavity of the newborns for the occurrence of ankyloglossia. We analyzed medical records and the mothers answered a self-administered questionnaire to assess birth variables, breastf

OBJECTIVE: Tongue-tie, or ankyloglossia, is a common condition characterized by an abnormally short or tight lingual frenulum and is known to cause breastfeeding difficulties, leading to damage to the nipple, early discontinuation of breastfeeding, and delayed infant growth. In addition to tongue-tie, abnormal frenulums such as the labial frenulum and buccal frenulum can cause lip-tie and cheek-tie, respectively. While both of these conditions have been reported to potentially cause similar issues related to breastfeeding as tongue-tie, limited research has been conducted to understand their e

Despite the curious role of tongue in the development of oro-facial structures the tongue remains as rather quiescent organ without bony skeleton. But it is said that neuro-muscular complex of tongue is important in the developmental and functional process. Ankyloglossia and macroglossia are occasionally implicated in the oral diseases. Many authors supposed that the ankyloglossia and macroglossia might produce various abnormal oro-facial growth, such as bimaxillary or mandibular protrusion and anterior open bite, etc. We have designed the classification of ankyloglossia by measuring the media

Pain is one of the most frequent reasons for seeking dental care and significantly influences patient comfort, treatment acceptance, and clinical outcomes. Effective management of dental pain requires accurate diagnosis, timely intervention, and the rational use of analgesics supported by evidence-based clinical decision-making. Recognizing the need for structured guidance for everyday dental practice, the Indian Society of Periodontology has developed Good Clinical Practice Recommendations on Pain Management and the Use of Analgesics in Dental Clinics. These recommendations were formulated by
