Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma arising in the head and neck region is an extremely rare malignant neoplasm. OBJECTIVES: To determine the feasibility of bladder preservation using transurethral resection for patients with muscle-invasive cancer and to determine the proportion of patients with muscle-invasive disease who would be eligible for this approach.
METHODS: A retrospective review demonstrated that 327 patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer were treated in our institution from 1997 to 2002. Resection was repeated in all patients, and bladder preservation was offered to patients with no residual tumor, normal examination findings under anesthesia, and normal upper urinary tract findings.

Management options for squamous cell carcinoma of the base of tongue include surgical resection (often with adjuvant radiation), definitive external radiation and external combined with interstitial radiation. The reported series is a single institution experience with interstitial radiation for base of tongue cancer. Twenty patients were treated definitively with interstitial radiation as a boost to external radiation, and four patients were treated palliatively with interstitial radiation alone for recurrent base of tongue cancers or disease arising in a previously irradiated base of tongue.

BACKGROUND: There is a lack of consensus regarding the management of T4a larynx cancer. We evaluated the outcomes of organ preservation and laryngectomy for T4a laryngeal cancer.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis of patients with T4a larynx cancer at BC Cancer from 1984 to 2014 was performed. Over the past decades, randomized clinical trials have assessed and validated the concept of larynx preservation. This new concept has obviously modified the treatment algorithm for laryngopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. However surgery for larynx and hypopharynx cancer remains indicated in many cases.
