Lateral violence is a problem in nursing despite policies addressing the issue, which suggests that implementation of these policies may be ineffective. We used an evidence-based approach to locate and appraise evidence about effectively implementing lateral violence policies. Our search strategy emphasized preappraised evidence, and we found 12 sources that met our inclusion criteria. Most evidence was from low-level sources, which is not surprising due to the subjective and sensitive nature of this topic. The evidence did not indicate that there is consistent, effective implementation of lat

INTRODUCTION: Around 55,000 pregnant individuals enter US jails annually, with over one-third having a substance use disorder (SUD), putting them at risk of perinatal morbidity and mortality. Yet, uptake of perinatal/SUD care best-practices into jails is slow, impacted by many organizational factors. This study explores the organizational contexts that shape decision-making structures and policy development regarding perinatal/SUD care in North Carolina (NC) jails.
METHOD: We conducted semi-structured interviews with employees at 26 NC jails in 2023. Interview transcripts were de-identified a

In their article in the last issue of the Journal, the authors reported on their health system's decision to equip their security officers with Narcan, the nasal-spray form of naloxone, and train them to use the drug to revive patients and non-patients overdosed with heroin or other life-threatening opioids. The decision, they said, was prompted with an increase in individ- uals who may come to the hospital ' 32 buildings and over 130 offsitefa- cilities to "shoot up" themselves. In this follow-up report, they describe what has happened in the seven months since the policy was begun-- how many

PURPOSE: This illustrative case study describes and evaluates drivers of effective inter-organizational collaboration to mitigate the impact and spread of COVID-19 among homeless people in two cities in the Netherlands. The aims of this study are: (1) to explore the strategic and operational policy responses in two local integrated care settings at the start of the crisis, (2) to identify best policy practices and lessons learned. The authors interpret and evaluate the findings by combining insights from the population health management (PHM) and collaborative governance literature.

INTRODUCTION: Improving school-based youth sports activities is an important objective of health and education policy, yet schools continue to differ markedly in implementation quality.
METHODS: This study combined multi-case comparison with fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to examine how policy, resources, organization, curriculum, teachers, facilities, evaluation, and student experience jointly shape activity quality. Five schools representing resource-driven, organizationally innovative, and resource-constrained contexts were analyzed.
RESULTS: Organizational leadership

Water unaffordability is a growing environmental justice crisis for vulnerable groups in the United States due to increasing water rates. These injustices disproportionately affect low-income and minority groups. We investigate how organizational capacity and learning processes influence the ways publicly managed water utilities develop and implement policies addressing water unaffordability. We also investigate the connections between financial, relational, and technical capabilities on offered customer assistance plans (CAPs). Combining these two areas of analysis, we examine how organizatio

In everyone's day-to-day jobs there is constant need to deal with current and newly detected matters. This is now a world of immediacy, driven by the cadence of the business and its needs. These concerns should not be ignored, as failing to deal with these issues would not bode well for the future. It is essential that the gears are kept spinning. The challenge for any security organisation is to identify its short-term tactical requirements, while developing longer-term strategic needs. Once done, the differences can be accounted for and strides can be made toward a desired future state. This

Patient health information must be available to meet the needs of continued patient care, legal requirements, research, education, and other legitimate uses. While there are no federal laws currently that outline time frames for the retention of health information, many states do have specific requirements with which providers must comply. Each healthcare provider should develop a retention schedule for patient health information that meets the needs of its patients, physicians, researchers, and other legitimate users and complies with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. Peer recovery support specialists represent one of the most rapidly expanding sectors of the behavioral health care workforce, yet organizational conditions that support or undermine this workforce remain underexplored. To better understand the experience of providing peer support and identify organizational factors that facilitate or hinder effective and sustainable peer work, we conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews with a convenience sample of 17 peer workers in Connecticut. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and thematically analyzed. We identified five themes, reflecting bo

A small community-based justice organization focused on worker and food justice in central Maine has been involved in a years-long process to integrate a racial justice lens following 2020's nation-wide reckoning with white supremacy culture underpinning the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and others, as well as the hugely disproportionate health and economic impacts of COVID-19 on communities of color. This empowerment evaluation proposes a process to support small nonprofit organizations in identifying how to explicitly integrate racial justice into established programming by examinin

This paper presents evidence from a root cause analysis (RCA) team meeting that was recently conducted in a Sydney Metropolitan Teaching Hospital to investigate an iatrogenic morphine overdose. Analysis of the meeting transcript reveals on three levels that clinical members of the team struggle with framing the uncertain and contradictory details of situated clinical activity and translating these first into 'root causes', and then into recommendations for practice change. This analysis puts two challenges into special relief. First, RCA team members find themselves in the unusual position of

BACKGROUND: Women who use or are in treatment for drug use during the perinatal period often have complex needs and presenting comorbidity. Women who use opioids during pregnancy, and their infants, experience poor outcomes. Drug use by women during pregnancy is a public health priority. This scoping review aimed to (1) map clinical guidelines, treatment protocols and good practice guidance across the UK for women who use or are in treatment for drug use during the perinatal period, (2) identify recommended best practice across health and social care for optimising outcomes and reducing inequa

AIM: To examine how nurses experience and navigate the emotional and interpersonal demands of working with informal caregivers in acute care settings and to identify opportunities for institutional and policy-level support.
BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION: Informal caregivers play an essential role in patient and family-centered care, yet their involvement often creates emotional and relational strain for nurses. Nurses frequently become the primary outlet for caregiver distress while receiving little preparation or organizational support. Limited research has explored these dynamics from the nurse's

BACKGROUND: Pharmaceutical subsidy reforms are commonly implemented to improve access to essential medicines, strengthen financial protection, and enhance the sustainability of health systems. In Iran, the Darooyar policy was introduced to shift pharmaceutical subsidies from subsidized foreign exchange allocation toward consumer-oriented insurance coverage. Despite its policy importance, limited evidence exists regarding the implementation challenges of this reform from the perspective of health system stakeholders.
METHODS: This qualitative study was conducted using an inductive thematic ana

OBJECTIVES: Approximately 5% of incarcerated people in Canada are pregnant. These individuals are more likely to experience adverse infant and maternal outcomes. Despite this, there are no clinical practice guidelines governing reproductive care for women in prison in Canada. This research study asks what maternity hospital policies exist with respect to the care for pregnant incarcerated individuals in Canada.
METHODS: We conducted an environmental scan and document analysis of maternity hospital policies providing care to perinatal individuals who are experiencing incarceration. We contacte

Pakistan launched its Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) programme in 2006 in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners to bridge gaps and upscale interventions aimed at reducing mortality and achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The country will have an uphill task in meeting by 2020, the 2015 targets set for attainment of MDGs 4 and 5. The current Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) level of 30% is considerably below the 60% target set for 2020 and the current Total Fertility Rate (TFR), estimated at 4, is significantly higher than the se
