[The suitability of orthodontical groups of indications (OGI) for preventive dental examinations of the public health service].

In the context of the dental preventive medical examinations of the public health service, the orthodontical data-gathering in children's day-care centre and schools, in contrast to the diagnoses of caries disease, was made was based so far on a non-uniform methodology. In order to provide in future, also in the orthodontical sector, data material that is usable for comparative national and local health reporting, a uniform methodology should form the basis for the data acquisition. The present study makes a contribution to this objective. A goal of the work was to test two different collectio

A Novel Surgical Approach to Modify the Periodontal Phenotype for the Prevention of Mucogingival Complications Related to Orthodontic Treatment.

Certain bone morphologies and soft tissue thickness (ie, phenotype) are considered to be risk factors for the development of gingival recessions following orthodontic tooth movement. Preoperative evaluation of the periodontal phenotype, in the frame of orthodontic treatment plan, identify teeth at high risk for mucogingival complications related to orthodontic therapy. The new surgical technique is illustrated in a clinical case. A patient with a thin phenotype without visible gingival recession had bone dehiscences in the anterior mandible. Prior to orthodontic treatment, simultaneous bone an

Perception of Dental Caries Risk and Preventive Strategies Among Orthodontic Patients: A Cross-Sectional Survey.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic treatment significantly improves dental aesthetics, occlusal function, and overall oral health. However, maintaining optimal oral hygiene during treatment is challenging because of plaque accumulation around brackets, wires, and bands, which increases the risk of dental caries. Patient perceptions of caries risk and preventive strategies influence their adherence to oral hygiene measures. This study aimed to assess orthodontic patients' perceptions of dental caries risk, adherence to preventive measures, and effectiveness of oral hygiene instructions provided by ortho

Fluoride Varnish For The Prevention Of White Spot Lesions During Orthodontic Treatment: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: White spot lesions are a potential side effect of orthodontic treatment. This occurs frequently, with a prevalence ranging from 50% to 90%. The lesions typically occur on the labial surface of the gingival region of the tooth. Caries prophylaxis requires use of soluble fluoride to prevent demineralisation and stimulate remineralisation of enamel and dentine. The administration of fluoride varnish is a controlled and professional way of delivering high-fluoride concentrations that do not rely on patient compliance. This meta-analysis will assess the effectiveness of fluoride

Effectiveness of fluoride mouthrinse in prevention of demineralization during fixed orthodontic treatment: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Enamel demineralization is a very common occurrence around bonded brackets in an orthodontic practice. Fluoride (FLR) applications have been used to prevent decalcification and further progression of white spot lesions. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to systematically appraise available literature on the effectiveness of fluoride mouthrinse in the prevention of demineralization around fixed orthodontic appliances. A search was conducted for randomized controlled clinical trials among four electronic databases (MEDLINE, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Cochrane Review) t

Prevention of bone dehiscence associated with orthodontic tooth movement by prophylactic injection of bone anabolic agents in mice.

Although bone dehiscence may occur during orthodontic tooth movement into the narrow alveolar ridge, a non-invasive prevention method is yet to be fully established. We show for the first time prevention of bone dehiscence associated with orthodontic tooth movement by prophylactic injection of bone anabolic agents in mice. In this study, we established a bone dehiscence mouse model by applying force application and used the granular type of scaffold materials encapsulated with bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2 and OP3-4, the receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL)-binding peptide, for the

Stimuli-activable hollow Cu2O@C/N doped paste for the prevention of white spot lesions in orthodontic treatments.

White spot lesions (WSLs) are the most common complication of orthodontic treatment, compromising dental health and significantly affecting aesthetics. To address this clinical challenge, this study aims to develop a dual-functional therapeutic strategy that simultaneously promotes the remineralization of demineralized enamel and inhibits the activity of cariogenic bacteria, thereby achieving effective prevention and treatment of WSLs. A hollow double-shell structured Cu2O@N/C nanozyme (H-Cu2O@N/C) was synthesized using a one-step hydrothermal method. The thin nitrogen-doped carbon shell signi

Preventive and reparative effects of low-level laser therapy on orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption-An animal study.

BACKGROUND: Orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR) is one of the most important side effects of orthodontic treatment. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a useful way to reduce the orthodontic treatment duration and may have some effect on preventing and repairing OIIRR. However, the specific effects of LLLT on OIIRR remain unknown. OBJECTIVE: Our research aimed to evaluate the Dentin Sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) expression level and root resorption volume during treatment and retention to explore the role of LLLT in preventing and repairing OIIRR. METHODS: Thirty-seven 6-

Effectiveness of amine fluoride mouthwash in preventing white spot lesions during fixed orthodontic therapy - A randomized control trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: One of the main reasons that patients seek orthodontic treatment is aesthetics. Unfortunately, treatment with fixed orthodontic appliances can at times increase the chances of developing white spot lesions on the surfaces of teeth, thus creating a new aesthetic issue for the patient. The prevalence of white spot lesions (WSL) reported after treatment varies from 2% to 97%, and these lesions can occur despite increased attention to hygiene. Hence the aim of this study was to assess the effect of Amine fluoride mouthwash in preventing white spot lesions during fixed orthodont
