OBJECTIVE: The pre- and postoperative airway management during surgery of head and neck cancer is a clinically relevant and challenging task. Usually an epithelialised tracheostomy is used. The significance of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) in combination with tumour surgery of the head neck area has not yet been fully considered.

In this study, our four patients with angiofibroma with various atypical features are presented. INTRODUCTION: Novel endoscopic technique - Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) seems to be a promising method for an early detection of neoplastic lesions of the upper aerodigestive tract. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the implication of Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) in Otorhinolaryngology.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A longitudinal retrospective study on patients with HL diagnosed, treated and followed-up in our Centre from 1996 to 2010.
RESULTS: From 413 individuals having lymphoma, 120 were labelled as HL (29%). OBJECTIVE: To study the process of referral from primary care in a health area in Madrid. The second objective was to evaluate the trends in the referral process.
DESIGN: Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study.
SETTING: Three urban health centers in the Area 2.
PARTICIPANTS: All referrals made by 13 doctors during 3 consecutive weeks. The total number of visits attended were 6012. The study was realized between February 2002 and January 2003.

Our present choice of papers will cover various generalist aspects of our speciality. We will report on the importance of biofilms, the role of helicobacter in otitis media, de role of fungi in sinusal disease, or on the increase of MRSA in neck abscesses. Treatments of mycotic otitis and middle ear infection, sudden hearing loss, or acute ethmoiditis in children will be described. The interest of tonsillectomy, dacryocystorhinostomy or preservation radiotherapy will be also discussed.

BACKGROUND: Haemoptysis is an uncommon presenting symptom to the ENT clinic and ward, but has potentially sinister aetiology. This article aims to provide a systematic and evidence-based method of managing patients with haemoptysis.

Ten children with neoplasms of the head and neck were treated in the Clinic of Otolaryngology of Medical University in Wrocław. BACKGROUND: Needle aspiration is currently a widely used technique in the diagnosis of unclear lesions in the head and neck region. We report one case of nasal T-cell lymphoma (NTL) that we studied histologically and with a panel of monoclonal antibodies. It is a rare etiology of the so-called lethal midline granuloma. The diagnosis of NTL if often difficult because of spreading necrosis, cellular polymorphism and necessity of getting frozen snap sections for immunohistochemical techniques. Tumours of the upper aerodigestive tract cause malnutrition in the majority of ENT cancer patients. This situation is complicated by multimodal treatment regimens (including surgery and/or irradiation). The resulting malnutrition is a disease entity in its own right and requires special treatment concepts. Effective screening tools (NRS 2002) need to be introduced and data such as body mass index and bioimpedance analysis need to be gathered.
