Hyperreactio luteinalis masquerading as an ovarian neoplasm in a triplet pregnancy.

Hyperreactio luteinalis is a non-neoplastic tumor-like ovarian lesion associated with pregnancy. Most patients are asymptomatic, with the ovarian enlargement being incidentally discovered at the time of cesarean section. It can simulate a neoplasm on clinical, gross and sometimes microscopic examination. We report a case of hyperreactio luteinalis in a patient, who was diagnosed as having polycystic ovary disease before conceiving a triplet pregnancy after three treatment cycles of human menopausal gonadotropin-human chorionic gonadotropin therapy, and discuss its pathogenesis.

Hyperreactio luteinalis. Benign disorder masquerading as an ovarian neoplasm.

Hyperreactio luteinalis (HL) refers to moderate to marked cystic enlargement of the ovaries due to multiple benign theca lutein cysts and is most often associated with hydatidiform mole or choriocarcinoma. The cause of this condition is unknown, but is believed to be related to elevated levels of, or abnormal ovarian response to, human chorionic and pituitary gonadotropins. Only 47 cases of HL unassociated with trophoblastic disease have been previously reported in the English-language literature, mostly before 1974, and almost exclusively in the gynecologic literature. We present two addition

Gastric type adenocarcinoma of the cervix presenting as ovarian neoplasm.

Gastric-type adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix (GAS) is a rare subtype of mucinous adenocarcinoma, unrelated to HPV infection. It first appeared in the World Health Organization Classification of Tumours of Female Reproductive Organs in 2014. This report discusses a 50-year-old, Caucasian female who presented with new onset abdominal pain, distension, and diffuse ascites. CT scan revealed an ovarian neoplasm later diagnosed as GAS on surgical pathology. Immunohistological stains were positive for PAX8, CK7, CK20 (focally strong), CAIX (strong), CEA (patchy), MUC6 (strong), HNF1b, UBC, RNA,

Ovarian neoplasms in adolescence and childhood--an analysis of twenty cases.

Between January, 1999 and June, 2001 consecutive twenty cases of ovarian tumours in girls below 20 years of age admitted in Burdwan Medical College, Burdwan, West Bengal were analysed. Commonest presentation was lump abdomen (80%), 15% presented with acute abdomen, one patient presented with virilisation and another with precocious puberty and 85% had single ovarian involvement. Among 5 cases of torsion of ovarian tumours, one along with the twisted uterus was detected. Conservative surgery in the form of cystectomy or unilateral oophorectomy with or without salpingectomy was possible in 85% c

Coexisting Primary Ovarian and Omental Hydatid Disease Mimicking an Ovarian Neoplasm: A Case Report.

Hydatid disease is a parasitic infection that most commonly affects the liver and lungs, although the disease can arise in any part of the body. Cysts may mimic many benign and malignant conditions. The diagnosis cannot be confirmed preoperatively in all cases. A 44-yr-old menopausal woman was admitted to the department of gynecology with complaints of abdominal distention. A fixed abdominopelvic mass was identified. Radiology revealed a 20-cm mass with branched septations and solid components. CA-125 level was 55 kU/L, and Risk of Malignancy Index-2 score was 880. These findings suggested the

Ovarian metastasis from breast cancer mimicking a primary ovarian neoplasm: A case report.

Ovarian metastasis (OM) from breast cancer accounts for 3-38% of all ovarian neoplasms and is associated with various characteristic clinical presentations, such as pseudo-Meigs syndrome and Krukenberg tumor. Accurate diagnosis of OM may be challenging, as such lesions are frequently asymptomatic until they reach a large size. Occasionally, metastatic ovarian cancer is detected prior to the diagnosis of the primary tumor. Immunohistochemistry plays an important role in distinguishing primary ovarian tumors from extraovarian tumor metastases and may be helpful for identifying the primary tumor

Differences in symptoms between patients with benign and malignant ovarian neoplasms.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the symptoms that are experienced by patients who receive a diagnosis of early ovarian cancer and to compare those symptoms with the symptoms that are experienced by patients with late ovarian cancer, borderline ovarian cancer, and benign ovarian neoplasms. STUDY DESIGN: This study used a retrospective case-control design. Cases of invasive and borderline ovarian cancer (n=147 patients) were compared with 76 patients with benign ovarian neoplasms. RESULTS: Patients with early ovarian cancer were significantly more likely to have symptoms

Differential microRNA Expression Analysis in Patients with HPV-Infected Ovarian Neoplasms.

This study aimed to identify microRNAs (miRNAs) whose expression levels are altered by high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection in women with epithelial ovarian neoplasms. MiRNA expression was quantified by real-time polymerase chain reaction, while HR-HPV DNA was quantified using digital-droplet PCR. Analysis of 11 miRNAs demonstrated significantly lower hsa-miR-25-5p expression in HPV-infected compared to uninfected ovarian tissues (p = 0.0405), while differences in miRNA expression in corresponding serum were statistically insignificant. The expression of hsa-miR-218-5p in ovarian

Intraoperative predictors of appendiceal abnormalities in patients with mucinous ovarian neoplasms.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate intraoperative factors predicting appendiceal pathology during gynecologic oncology surgery for suspected mucinous ovarian neoplasms. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study on 225 patients with mucinous ovarian neoplasms who underwent surgery for an adnexal mass with concurrent appendectomy between 2000 and 2018. Regression analyses were used to evaluate intraoperative factors, such as frozen section of the ovarian mass and surgeon's impression of the appendix in predicting appendiceal pathology. RESULTS: Most patients (77.8%) had a normal appendix on final pathol

Fallopian tube precursors of ovarian low- and high-grade serous neoplasms.

Traditionally, it was thought that ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma arises from the ovarian surface epithelium and epithelial inclusion glands and that the pathogenesis is de novo; nonetheless, a convincing precursor in the ovary or peritoneum has not been identified to date. During the last few years, however, there has been a dramatic shift in thinking, and a candidate precursor is now recognized in the fallopian tube, especially within the fimbriated end - serous tubal intra-epithelial carcinoma (STIC). Accordingly, STIC is probably the earliest histologically recognizable lesion in the

Immunohistochemistry in the distinction between primary and metastatic ovarian mucinous neoplasms.

The distinction between a primary and metastatic mucinous carcinoma within the ovary may be problematic. In most cases, the distinction can be made by careful pathological examination encompassing both the gross and microscopic findings and taking into account the distribution of the disease. However, immunohistochemistry may be of value in certain scenarios. In this review, I discuss the value of markers in the distinction between primary ovarian mucinous neoplasms and metastatic mucinous carcinomas from the colorectum, appendix, pancreas, biliary tract, stomach and cervix, the most common pr

Aberrant hormone production from ovarian neoplasms: strategies for diagnosis and therapy.

Syndromes involving peptide or nonsex steroid hormone secretion due to aberrantly located tumors are rare. We report a collected series of 16 patients with ectopic hormone production from ovarian neoplasms, including 3 patients recently encountered at our institution as well as 13 additional cases identified in the recent literature. These tumors included 2 insulin-producing ovarian carcinoids, 1 ACTH-producing pituitary adenoma within a benign ovarian cystic teratoma, 2 cortisol-producing ovarian neoplasms, 8 gastrin-producing ovarian cystadenomata or cystadenocarcinomata, and 3 thyroxine-pro

Ovarian metastases from gallbladder mimics primary ovarian neoplasm in young patient: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Gallbladder cancer is unusually seen but can result in highly mortality rate. It makes challenge to diagnose for clinicians due to present asymptomatic or non-specific clinical presentation including abdominal pain, anorexia. It usually also accompanies with cholelithiasis (incidence is 1-2%) and incidentally detected by radiologic examination such as ultrasound, computed tomography or intra-operative intervention accidentally. Gallbladder cancer results in highly fatal malignancy because it is difficult to early detect. The ovarian metastases from gallbladder mimics primary neopla
