The effects of isotretinoin on the ovarian reserve of females with acne.

There are some side effects of isotretinoin in many organs. However, a study investigating the effects of isotretinoin on the human ovarian reserve has not been reported previously. The study was conducted to investigate possible effects of isotretinoin on ovarian reserve. Serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels were measured at the beginning and at the end of isotretinoin treatment in 22 patients with acne and in 22 women without. The mean AMH level before treatment was 5.77 ng/mL in the study group and 3.79 ng/mL in the control group (p = 0.008). Following treatment, the mean AMH level was

Effects of Supervised Physiotherapy-Based Exercise on Ovarian Reserve and Spontaneous Pregnancy in Women with Diminished Ovarian Reserve: A Controlled Pilot Study.

Diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) is a major cause of female infertility with limited treatment options, and lifestyle interventions such as supervised, structured exercise therapy may support ovarian function. In this pilot study, we evaluated the effect of a supervised, physiotherapy-based exercise program combined with antioxidant supplementation on ovarian reserve markers and spontaneous pregnancy rates in 24 infertile women aged 20-42 years, with body mass index (BMI) 18.5-30 kg/m2, regular menstruation, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) < 1.1 ng/mL, and antral follicle count ≥3 measured on day

Robotic assisted versus conventional laparoscopic ovarian suture reapproximation in ovarian cystectomy of ovarian endometriomas in preserving ovarian reserve.

This study aims to introduce and evaluate a novel suturing technique for treating ovarian endometriomas (OMA) using robot-assisted laparoscopy (RAL), termed the Reapproximation of Ovarian Stroma (ROS) method. The primary focus is to assess the efficacy of ROS-RAL in treating OMA and preserving ovarian reserve, as measured by anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels, compared to conventional laparoscopy (CL). In this retrospective study, we evaluated 154 patients who underwent OMA resection via either CL or RAL at Jeonbuk National University Hospital in Korea between February 1, 2017, to December 31

Brain Serotonin Deficiency Impairs Ovarian Reserve Function via the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Ovarian Axis.

Brain-derived serotonin (5-HT) is a key neurotransmitter that regulates diverse central and peripheral physiological processes, including endocrine function, mood, and circadian rhythms. Patients with anxiety and depression often exhibit reduced brain 5-HT levels, which contribute significantly to female infertility. However, the role of brain-derived 5-HT in maintaining ovarian reserve function remains unclear. We generated brain-specific Tph2 conditional knockout (Tph2-CKO) mice lacking 5-HT and observed reduced follicle numbers and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels, indicating diminished

Ovarian Follicular Growth through Intermittent Vaginal Gonadotropin Administration in Diminished Ovarian Reserve Women.

It is a challenge to obtain enough oocytes during in vitro fertilization (IVF) in women who have a poor ovarian response (POR) in achieving conception. We have adopted the characteristics of the first uterine pass effect, which we pioneered in employing the vaginal administration of gonadotropins in women receiving IVF treatments. In our previous study employing vaginal administration, faster absorption and slower elimination of gonadotropins were demonstrated, and, female subjects presented proper ovarian follicle growth and pregnancy rates. In this study, during 2016-2020, 300 to 675 IU of g

BMP15 "knockout-like" effect in familial premature ovarian insufficiency with persistent ovarian reserve.

Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) affects 1% to 2% of women under 40 years. Bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) variants have been described in POI. We studied a family with 2 sisters compound heterozygous for deletions in the BMP15 gene on chromosome Xp11.22 yielding a human "knockout-like" effect: a c.151_152delGA deletion yielded a p.Glu51IlefsTer27 mutation transmitted by the hemizygous father and a c.189_198delAGGGCATTCAinsTG deletion/insertion yielded a p.Glu64AlafsTer12 mutation transmitted by the heterozygous mother. Both deletions resulted in frameshifts with premature stop codo

Comparative Analysis of Rescue-In Vitro-Maturation (r-IVM) Outcomes in Women with Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) Versus Normal Ovarian Reserve (NOR).

Background/Objectives: Diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) poses significant challenges in the reproductive field, resulting in fewer mature and more low-quality eggs. Methods: We studied r-IVM in addition to standard in vitro fertilization (IVF) and compared the embryological outcomes between both DOR and NOR women. Results: We recruited 90 women (45 NOR; 45 DOR) with a younger age seen in NOR (35.2 vs. 36.5 years old) women. Otherwise, DOR women had lower levels of AMH and AFC, thus fewer retrieved follicles and collected oocytes. Most of the group presented with primary subfertility, with 55.6

Building a resilient ovarian reserve: Early soma-oocyte interactions.

Soma-oocyte interactions are a key component in female fertility. First the ovary must adopt a female fate and become populated with supporting somatic cells. We discuss the origins of each somatic cell type with a particular focus on pre-granulosa cell origins and differentiation. Upon germ cell arrival into the ovary, the oogonia develop into cysts and begin their interactions with neighboring pre-granulosa cells. Cell to cell contacts change over time as the germline cysts form and then break down to facilitate primordial follicle formation. These changes do not happen in isolation, rather,

Ovarian reserve alteration in premenopausal women with systemic sclerosis.

Anti-Muellerian hormone (AMH) is produced by the granulosa cells of ovarian follicles. It serves as a sensitive laboratory parameter for assessing ovarian reserve. A reduced ovarian reserve has been observed in patients with various autoimmune diseases. To compare serum levels of AMH as a surrogate parameter for ovarian reserve in female patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls and thereby assess fertility. In this single centre study from the University Hospital Tuebingen, Germany, we used serum samples to determine concentrations of AMH via an electrochemiluminescence im

Ovarian reserve after treatment with alkylating agents during childhood.

STUDY QUESTION: What is the effect of different alkylating agents used without pelvic radiation to treat childhood cancer in girls on the ovarian reserve in survivors? SUMMARY ANSWER: Ovarian reserve seems to be particularly reduced in survivors who received procarbazine (in most cases for Hodgkin lymphoma) or high-dose chemotherapy; procarbazine but not cyclophosphamide dose is associated with diminished ovarian reserve. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: A few studies have demonstrated diminished ovarian reserve in survivors after various combination therapies, but the individual role of each treatmen

Does the ovarian reserve decrease from repeated ovulation stimulations?

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The majority of infertility patients require more than one in-vitro fertilization cycles to achieve pregnancy, which results in repeated stimulation in the ovaries. There have been raising concerns for patients about the effect of repetitive assisted reproductive technology (ART) cycles on ovarian response in subsequent cycles. Whether or not there is deterioration in ovarian response with repetitive treatment will allow clinicians to provide better counseling to patients before treatment. RECENT FINDINGS: The single determinant factor that has been shown in affecting ovari

Developing anti-Müllerian hormone as an ovarian reserve biomarker.

The first anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) radioimmunoassay became available for clinical use in the early 2000s. This MHR Legacy Series review discusses key contributions from our own group towards establishing AMH as a robust ovarian reserve biomarker. Initial studies in female volunteers demonstrated decreasing serum AMH concentrations with increasing female age, along with a direct correlation between AMH levels and the number of antral follicles. The most relevant clinical conditions where measurements of serum AMH appear to be of great value include the diagnosis of various forms of ovarian
