End-tidal arterial CO2 partial pressure gradient in patients with severe hypercapnia undergoing noninvasive ventilation.

BACKGROUND: Patients with severe hypercapnia represent a particularly serious condition in an emergency department (ED), requiring immediate attention. Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is an integral part of the treatment for acute respiratory failure. The present study aimed to validate the measurement of end-tidal CO2 (EtCO2) as a noninvasive technique to evaluate the effectiveness of NIV in acute hypercapnic respiratory failure. METHODS: Twenty consecutive patients admitted to the ED with severe dyspnea were enrolled in the study. NIV by means of bilevel positive airway pressure, was applied

[Preliminary study of transcutaneous oxygen partial pressure in adults after discontinuing normobaric hyperoxia during intubation].

When tracheal intubation is conducted with traditional laryngoscope PtcO2 fall during the first minute after intubation; when continuous O2 supplied laryngoscope (Laryng O2) is used PtcO2 rise; the difference is statistically significant (p less than 0.001) either the subjects are in curarisation apnea or in spontaneous ventilation. With traditional laryngoscope, the fall is faster with spontaneous ventilation conditions than during curarisation apnea. Likewise in normal conscient subject the same fall is faster (p less than 0.001) during first minute of posthyperoxic spontaneous quiet ventila

Effect of Electroacupuncture on Transcutaneous Oxygen Partial Pressure During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Healthy Individuals.

CONTEXT: The goal of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is to increase the oxygen (O₂) supply to the body significantly. Because of the toxic side effects and complications of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO₂), the environmental pressure and treatment time must be restricted. The research team hypothesized that other therapies administered during HBOT could safely improve the value of the arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO₂) during HBOT and improve its therapeutic effect. OBJECTIVE: The study intended to investigate whether electroacupuncture (EA) while receiving HBOT had a greater effect for healthy

[Pre-analytic errors in the determination of arterial O(2)-partial pressure under hyperoxic conditions].

OBJECTIVE: A variety of influences reduce the validity of the measured oxygen partial pressure (paO(2)). Most errors occur when obtaining the blood sample and preparing it for analysis. Unfortunately, there is great controversy concerning the relevance and extent of these pre-analytic errors. Apart from this, the exact estimation of influencing factors under hyperoxic conditions has been neglected. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess pre-analytic measuring errors for paO(2) under the condition of hyperoxia as completely as possible and to work out solutions to eliminate these

Continuous monitoring of partial pressure of brain tissue oxygen in patients with severe head injury.

Ischemia is one of the major factors causing secondary brain damage after severe head injury. We have investigated the value of continuous partial pressure of brain tissue oxygen (PbrO2) monitoring as a parameter for cerebral oxygenation in 22 patients with severe head injury (Glasgow Coma Scale score, < or = 8). Jugular bulb oxygenation, intracranial pressure, and cerebral perfusion pressure were simultaneously recorded. O2 and CO2 reactivity tests were performed daily to evaluate oxygen autoregulatory mechanisms. PbrO2 monitoring was started an average of 7.0 hours after trauma with a mean d

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation selection criteria: partial pressure of arterial oxygen versus alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has dramatically increased the survival rate of hypoxemic neonates who are unresponsive to maximum conventional medical therapy. Because ECMO involves multiple risks, including ligation of the right common carotid artery and right internal jugular vein, ECMO candidates should be neurologically intact neonates with a high probability of death despite maximum conventional ventilatory support. Currently, criteria based on the calculated alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient (A-aDO2) have replaced the neonatal pulmonary insufficiency index for predicting mort

[Effect of changes in central venous oxygen partial pressure on kidney function in anesthetized cats].

An extracorporeal veno-venous bypass utilizing an oxygenator to alter mixed venous blood gases was used in experiments on chloralose anesthetized cats. The gas mixture in the oxygenator was alternate 95% O2 or 95% N2 with additional 5% CO2. The produced difference of pO2 in the right ventricle (pO2v-) was 1.3 kPa. The arterial acid base status and the blood gases were not affected by this procedure. Comparing the alterations of pO2v- the higher level of pO2v- was connected with an increase of the mean arterial blood pressure, of the clearances of inulin and PAH, and of the sodium and the potas

Why is the partial oxygen pressure of human tissues a crucial parameter? Small molecules and hypoxia.

Oxygen supply and diffusion into tissues are necessary for survival. The oxygen partial pressure (pO(2)), which is a key component of the physiological state of an organ, results from the balance between oxygen delivery and its consumption. In mammals, oxygen is transported by red blood cells circulating in a well-organized vasculature. Oxygen delivery is dependent on the metabolic requirements and functional status of each organ. Consequently, in a physiological condition, organ and tissue are characterized by their own unique 'tissue normoxia' or 'physioxia' status. Tissue oxygenation is sev

Acetazolamide fails to decrease pulmonary artery pressure at high altitude in partially acclimatized humans.

In this randomized, double-blind placebo controlled trial our objectives were to determine if acetazolamide is capable of preventing high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) in trekkers traveling between 4250 m (Pheriche)\4350 m (Dingboche) and 5000 m (Lobuje) in Nepal; to determine if acetazolamide decreases pulmonary artery systolic pressures (PASP) at high altitude; and to determine if there is an association with PASP and signs and symptoms of HAPE. Participants received either acetazolamide 250 mg PO BID or placebo at Pheriche\Dingboche and were reassessed in Lobuje. The Lake Louise Consensus

Application of Intelligent Monitoring of Percutaneous Partial Oxygen Pressure in Evaluating the Evolution of Scar Hyperplasia.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The study aimed to investigate the dynamic changes of percutaneous partial oxygen pressure during the development and evolution of a hypertrophic scar. Twenty cases of hypertrophic scar patients at different stages were selected. A percutaneous oxygen monitor was used to measure oxygen partial pressure in the scar and normal skin tissue at 14, 30, 60, and 90 days after surgery. The changes of oxygen partial pressure, tissue structure, HIF-1α, and VEGF expression in the scar tissue were observed, and the correlation was analyzed. In the scar maturation process, with the prolongation of time, th

Imputation of partial pressures of arterial oxygen using oximetry and its impact on sepsis diagnosis.

OBJECTIVE: The ratio of the partial pressure of arterial oxygen to fraction of inspired oxygen is a key component of the sequential organ failure assessment score that operationally defines sepsis. But, it is calculated infrequently due to the need for the acquisition of an arterial blood gas. So, we sought to find an optimal imputation strategy for the estimation of sepsis-defining hypoxemic respiratory failure using oximetry instead of an arterial blood gas. APPROACH: We retrospectively studied a sample of non-intubated acute-care patients with oxygen saturation recorded  ⩽10 min before art

Comparing supervised machine learning algorithms for the prediction of partial arterial pressure of oxygen during craniotomy.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Brain tissue oxygenation is usually inferred from arterial partial pressure of oxygen (paO2), which is in turn often inferred from pulse oximetry measurements or other non-invasive proxies. Our aim was to evaluate the feasibility of continuous paO2 prediction in an intraoperative setting among neurosurgical patients undergoing craniotomies with modern machine learning methods. METHODS: Data from routine clinical care of lung-healthy neurosurgical patients were extracted from databases of the respective clinical systems and normalized. We used recursive feature elimi

Apnoeic Oxygenation Using High-Flow Oxygen: Effects on Partial Pressure of Carbon Dioxide in Rigid Bronchoscopy.

Background/Objectives: Rigid bronchoscopy poses safety challenges due to airway leakage. Although apnoeic oxygenation is a potential strategy, concerns over carbon dioxide (CO2) retention have limited its adoption. The introduction of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) has renewed interest by potentially mitigating CO2 accumulation during prolonged apnoea. This study investigated changes in the arterial partial pressure of CO2 (PaCO2) during apnoeic oxygenation using Optiflow™. Methods: We retrospectively analysed patients undergoing rigid bronchoscopy with HFNC (70 L·min-1) from 2020 to 2022. The

Process Intensification by Coupling Gas Permeation and Membrane Contactor for Removing CO2 at Low Partial Pressure.

Effective solutions for removing CO2 are necessary to ensure the safety of crew members in confined spaces. Exploring enhanced process coupling strategies is a way to solve the important demand of maintaining low CO2 concentrations. Despite extensive inquiries into different approaches, a conclusive and ideal technology nonetheless remains unresolved. A novel method is presented that combines gas permeation with membrane contactors to effectively eliminate CO2 at low partial pressures. The mathematical models were validated using experimental data, and extensive computational evaluations of th

Dynamics of Oxygen Reserve Index and Arterial Oxygen Partial Pressure in Children: A Prospective Observational Study.

AIMS: The Oxygen Reserve Index (ORI) is a novel, noninvasive parameter that reflects moderate hyperoxic states. However, its relationship with PaO2 in the pediatric population remains poorly understood. We investigated the ORI-PaO2 relationship during pediatric cardiac surgery and identified its influencing factors. METHODS: This prospective observational study included 98 pediatric patients (< 7 years of age) who underwent cardiac surgery for congenital heart defects. ORI and PaO2 were measured at FiO2 levels of 0.21, 0.5, and 0.8, both before and after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Linear m

OCE-205, a Selective V1a Partial Agonist, Reduces Portal Pressure in Rat Models of Portal Hypertension.

PURPOSE: Management of decompensated cirrhosis may include the use of vasoconstrictors that can lead to serious adverse events. OCE-205 was designed as a highly selective V1a receptor partial agonist, intended to have a wider therapeutic window than full vasopressin agonists. METHODS: We aimed to characterize the activity of OCE-205 treatment in two rat models of portal hypertension (PHT). For both models, OCE-205 was administered as a subcutaneous bolus injection. Thirty male Wistar rats were fed a methionine/choline-deficient (MCD) diet to model PHT. Animals received OCE-205 (10, 25, 100, o
