ES-DETR: Real-time detection transformer with encover and soft-dropout.

Real-time Detection Transformer (RT-DETR) exhibits notable advantages in real-time object detection, as evidenced by its enhanced speed and accuracy. However, the performance of RT-DETR is still constrained, due to (a) limited channel-wise correlation of attention mechanism that fails to capture cross-channel feature interactions, (b) information loss caused by dropout that may affect small and overlapped targets, and (c) insufficient robustness and limited diversity of small-scale training set. To solve these problems, this study proposes a real-time Detection Transformer with Encover and Sof

The Alzheimer's Knowledge Base: A Knowledge Graph for Alzheimer Disease Research.

BACKGROUND: As global populations age and become susceptible to neurodegenerative illnesses, new therapies for Alzheimer disease (AD) are urgently needed. Existing data resources for drug discovery and repurposing fail to capture relationships central to the disease's etiology and response to drugs. OBJECTIVE: We designed the Alzheimer's Knowledge Base (AlzKB) to alleviate this need by providing a comprehensive knowledge representation of AD etiology and candidate therapeutics. METHODS: We designed the AlzKB as a large, heterogeneous graph knowledge base assembled using 22 diverse external d

Performance of SURF and SIFT Keypoints for the Automated Differentiation of Abnormality in Chest Radiographs.

In this work, automated abnormality detection using keypoint information from Speeded-Up Robust feature (SURF) and Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) descriptors in chest Radiographic (CR) images is investigated and compared. Computerized image analysis using artificial intelligence is crucial to detect subtle and non-specific alterations of Tuberculosis (TB). For this, the healthy and TB CRs are subjected to lung field segmentation. SURF and SIFT keypoints are extracted from the segmented lung images. Statistical features from keypoints, its scale and orientation are computed. Discrimin

Diagnosis of Delusion and Hallucination from Schizophrenia Patient Using RADWT.

In this paper, early detection of schizophrenia types such as hallucination and delusion propose through the high Q-factor of RADWT in EEG signal acquired during the cognitive task of the patient. The earlier diagnose obtains from the energy distribution of the EEG signal in the high resolution via optimum tuning in dilation factor, which influences the Q-factor, redundancy and ringing in the EEG signal. The early detection of type of schizophrenia prevents the illness progression and lifelong disease. In existing clinical trial, the psych clinician diagnose only the schizophrenia disease throu

Semi-supervised segmentation of lesion from breast ultrasound images with attentional generative adversarial network.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Automatic segmentation of breast lesion from ultrasound images is a crucial module for the computer aided diagnostic systems in clinical practice. Large-scale breast ultrasound (BUS) images remain unannotated and need to be effectively explored to improve the segmentation quality. To address this, a semi-supervised segmentation network is proposed based on generative adversarial networks (GAN). METHODS: In this paper, a semi-supervised learning model, denoted as BUS-GAN, consisting of a segmentation base network-BUS-S and an evaluation base network-BUS-E, is proposed

Automatic renal lesion segmentation in ultrasound images based on saliency features, improved LBP, and an edge indicator under level set framework.

PURPOSE: Segmentation of lesions in ultrasound images is widely used for preliminary diagnosis. In this paper, we develop an automatic segmentation algorithm for multiple types of lesions in ultrasound images. The proposed method is able to detect and segment lesions automatically as well as generate accurate segmentation results for lesion regions. METHODS: In the detection step, two saliency detection frameworks which adopt global image information are designed to capture the differences between normal and abnormal organs as well as these between lesions and the normal tissues around them.

[Objective assessment of facial paralysis using local binary pattern in infrared thermography].

Facial paralysis is a frequently-occurring disease, which causes the loss of the voluntary muscles on one side of the face due to the damages the facial nerve and results in an inability to close the eye and leads to dropping of the angle of the mouth. There have been few objective methods to quantitatively diagnose it and assess this disease for clinically treating the patients so far. The skin temperature distribution of a healthy human body exhibits a contralateral symmetry. Facial paralysis usually causes an alteration of the temperature distribution of body with the disease. Scan-based volume animation driven by locally adaptive articulated registrations.

This paper describes a complete system to create anatomically accurate example-based volume deformation and animation of articulated body regions, starting from multiple in vivo volume scans of a specific individual. In order to solve the correspondence problem across volume scans, a template volume is registered to each sample. The wide range of pose variations is first approximated by volume blend deformation (VBD), providing proper initialization of the articulated subject in different poses. A novel registration method is presented to efficiently reduce the computation cost while avoiding

An analog silicon retina with multichip configuration.

The neuromorphic silicon retina is a novel analog very large scale integrated circuit that emulates the structure and the function of the retinal neuronal circuit. We fabricated a neuromorphic silicon retina, in which sample/hold circuits were embedded to generate fluctuation-suppressed outputs in the previous study [1]. The applications of this silicon retina, however, are limited because of a low spatial resolution and computational variability. In this paper, we have fabricated a multichip silicon retina in which the functional network circuits are divided into two chips: the photoreceptor

Beyond Pattern Recognition: Call for Functionally Aware AI for Anatomical Illustration.

This paper critically assesses the role of generative AI in anatomical illustration, identifying fundamental barriers that currently preclude AI from replacing human medical illustrators. Despite the promise of unprecedented efficiency, contemporary models exhibit persistent anatomical inaccuracies and "hallucinations" of nonexistent structures-flaws stemming from statistical pattern-matching rather than genuine anatomical understanding. These systems further lack pedagogical intent, clinical context, and the capacity for deliberate visual judgment, while raising unresolved ethical and copyrig

Real-time Object Detection Model for Cigarette Brand Identification Based on an Improved Single-stage Regression Architecture.

Visual recognition for automated cigarette inventory faces significant hurdles, including illumination changes, diverse box dimensions, and partial feature occlusion, which complicate brand verification and misplaced box detection. This article proposes an improved real-time detection model to deal with image recognition problems and improve accuracy. Firstly, an adaptive downsampling module is deployed to replace the downsampling convolution module in both the backbone and neck networks of YOLO series as the baseline or original detector, which effectively retains more feature details and rea

Multi-modal sentiment recognition with residual gating network and emotion intensity attention.

Multimodal emotion recognition focuses on the prediction of emotions using text, visual and acoustic modalities, and some results have been generated in this field. Previous approaches fall short in two aspects, one is the processing of complementary information among modalities, the other is how to avoid the long-term dependency and select the most important joint modal features. In this paper, we propose a new multimodal emotion recognition framework MSRG, which consists of feature extraction (FE), emotional intensity attention (EIA), time-step level fusion (TLF), utterance level fusion (ULF

ASRL: Correlation-robust pedestrian attribute recognition via fixed orthogonal classifier.

Pedestrian attribute recognition (PAR) aims to achieve robust prediction of multiple binary attributes in pedestrian images. Traditional PAR methods employ joint learning of a backbone network to extract shared features and a linear classifier to predict binary attributes. However, this paradigm faces key challenges: (1) the shared feature category grows exponentially with the number of attribute combinations up to 2C categories where C is the total number of attributes, (2) significant intra-class variance leads to uneven feature distributions, and (3) statistical correlations among attribute

Evaluation of osteoporosis features in cortical bone models using pattern recognition methods applied to ultrasound data.

Cortical bone plays a crucial role in bone strength in the context of osteoporosis. Thinning of the cortex and intracortical porosity developing from the endosteum are the main independent indicators of osteoporosis-related fractures risk, which can be separately quantified by advanced imaging techniques. Numerous studies have shown the sensitivity of ultrasonic guided waves to changes in the thickness and porosity of cortical bone both in models and in human subjects. The present study demonstrates feasibility of the pattern recognition approach to separate determination of factors of diagnos

Friends Across Time: Multi-Scale Action Segmentation Transformer for Surgical Phase Recognition.

Automatic surgical phase recognition is a core technology for modern operating rooms and online surgical video assessment platforms. Current state-of-the-art methods use both spatial and temporal information to tackle the surgical phase recognition task. Building on this idea, we propose the Multi-Scale Action Segmentation Transformer (MS-AST) for offline surgical phase recognition and the Multi-Scale Action Segmentation Causal Transformer (MS-ASCT) for online surgical phase recognition. We use ResNet50 or EfficientNetV2-M for spatial feature extraction. Our MS-AST and MS-ASCT can model tempor

PlagueKD: a knowledge graph-based plague knowledge database.

Plague has been confirmed as an extremely horrific international quarantine infectious disease attributed to Yersinia pestis. It has an extraordinarily high lethal rate that poses a serious hazard to human and animal lives. With the deepening of research, there has been a considerable amount of literature related to the plague that has never been systematically integrated. Indeed, it makes researchers time-consuming and laborious when they conduct some investigation. Accordingly, integrating and excavating plague-related knowledge from considerable literature takes on a critical significance.

Real-Time EMG Based Pattern Recognition Control for Hand Prostheses: A Review on Existing Methods, Challenges and Future Implementation.

Upper limb amputation is a condition that significantly restricts the amputees from performing their daily activities. The myoelectric prosthesis, using signals from residual stump muscles, is aimed at restoring the function of such lost limbs seamlessly. Unfortunately, the acquisition and use of such myosignals are cumbersome and complicated. Furthermore, once acquired, it usually requires heavy computational power to turn it into a user control signal. Its transition to a practical prosthesis solution is still being challenged by various factors particularly those related to the fact that ea

Rule Extraction Based on Extreme Learning Machine and an Improved Ant-Miner Algorithm for Transient Stability Assessment.

In order to overcome the problems of poor understandability of the pattern recognition-based transient stability assessment (PRTSA) methods, a new rule extraction method based on extreme learning machine (ELM) and an improved Ant-miner (IAM) algorithm is presented in this paper. First, the basic principles of ELM and Ant-miner algorithm are respectively introduced. Then, based on the selected optimal feature subset, an example sample set is generated by the trained ELM-based PRTSA model. And finally, a set of classification rules are obtained by IAM algorithm to replace the original ELM networ
