Dietary Inflammatory Index is associated with periodontitis risk in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus.

Recent studies suggest a link between periodontitis and the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII). We hypothesize that a more proinflammatory diet is associated with periodontitis risk in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This study aimed to explore the association between DII scores and periodontitis risk in GDM women. In this cross-sectional study, 302 eligible GDM women from a Maternal and Child Health Hospital were enrolled between February and July 2023. DII scores were calculated based on dietary intake data collected using a validated semiquantitative food frequency qu

The Effect of Periodontal Treatment on the Reactive Hyperemia Index. A 1-Year Follow-Up Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is a chronic multifactorial inflammatory disease of the supportive tissues of the teeth. In more recent years, remarkable epidemiological and pathophysiological associations between periodontitis and cardiovascular disease (CVD) have been presented. Whether or not treatment of periodontitis is valuable for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, has not yet been fully established. In this practice-based pilot study we focused on primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, by investigating the effect of periodontal treatment on the earliest detecta

Mediating Effects of Systemic Inflammation on the Association Between Body Roundness Index and Periodontitis in US Adults.

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: Periodontitis is a highly prevalent chronic inflammatory disease affecting periodontal tissues. While the Body Roundness Index (BRI), has emerged as a novel anthropometric measure for evaluating obesity-related health risks, its relationship with periodontal health remains unexplored. Although systemic inflammation is recognized as a key role in both obesity and periodontitis. However, whether BRI affects periodontitis, the mediating role of systemic inflammation in BRI-related periodontitis has not been elucidated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data were derived from the Natio

Periodontitis in individuals with few remaining teeth and a high gingival bleeding index increases the probability of dyslipidemia.

BACKGROUND: Dyslipidemia, a silent multifactorial condition, is characterized by changes in blood lipid levels, affecting all socioeconomic strata, increasing the risk for atherosclerotic diseases. This study investigated whether there is an association between dyslipidemia and the combined exposure of periodontitis plus the number of remaining teeth, gingival bleeding, or caries. METHODS: A two-center cross-sectional study was conducted involving 1270 individuals, with a minimum age of 18 years. Socioeconomic and demographic data, health conditions, lifestyle parameters, and anthropometric,

Association between the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index and periodontitis in US adults: a cross-sectional analysis.

BACKGROUND: The pathogenesis of periodontitis may be related to host-mediated inflammatory and immune responses caused by accumulation of oral microbial plaque. Nutrients have anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory capabilities. Dietary intake of antioxidants and micronutrients is associated with the inflammatory burden of the diet. The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) is a composite index for assessing the antioxidant properties of a diet, and the relationship with periodontitis is unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between periodontitis and CDAI. ME

Greater severity and extent of periodontal breakdown in 136 south Indian human immunodeficiency virus seropositive patients than in normal controls: a comparative study using community periodontal index of treatment needs.

Apart from the more or less distinctive forms of periodontal disease associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome there remains considerable uncertainty as to whether or not conventional destructive periodontitis is exacerbated in HIV positive individuals. This is especially so in developing countries, from which few studies have been reported. The present study compared the severity and extent of periodontal break down in 136 HIV positive individuals from Chennai, South India, with 136 age-matched controls from the same low socio-economic and ethnic gr

Association between "a body shape index" (ABSI) with periodontitis in a hypertension population from the NHANES 2009-2014.

A body Shape index (ABSI), defined as waist circumference (WC)/(body mass index (BMI)2/3 × height1/2), is unique in that the ABSI is positively associated with visceral obesity and is independent of BMI. The ABSI has also been shown to be positively and linearly correlated with the amount of visceral adiposity in the general population and with all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, it is uncertain whether ABSI is associated with periodontitis in hypertensive patients. A cross-sectional study of 2,482 hypertensive patients (mean age 65.2 ± 9.1 years) was conducted using the ABSI
