Autogenous tooth transplantation: a reevaluation.

This paper discusses whether autogenous tooth transplantation can survive as an option in the future dental armamentaria. Clinically, successful transplants must show a radiolucent space between the roots and surrounding bone. There must be no evidence of ankylosis, no permanent root resorption, and no inflammation. Histologically, the criterion of success is a normal and functional periodontal ligament between the root surfaces of transplants and the bone or gingival connective tissues. Case reports are presented to illustrate replantation or transplantation of teeth. Possible donor teeth are

Clinical Management of Localized Aggressive Periodontitis With Esthetic Replacement of Tooth 11 Using a Resin-Bonded Bridge: A Case Report.

Aggressive periodontitis (AgP) is a severe periodontal disease that causes early tooth loss in healthy young patients. Localized aggressive periodontitis (LAP) often affects specific teeth with rapid destruction of supporting tissues, causing functional and esthetic problems. Conservative treatment options are needed to manage tooth loss and maintain oral health. This case report describes the case of LAP in a 33-year-old man who presented with clinical attachment loss and bone destruction affecting the molars and incisors. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed deep periodontal pocket

Diagnosis and classification of the periodontal diseases.

A classification for gingivitis and periodontitis has been proposed based on clinical observations and immunologic parameters (summarized in Table 10). Overlapping clinical situations and exceptions to the rule certainly exist and pose challenges to clinicians during diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning. The clinical significance of making the diagnosis of either rapidly progressive periodontitis, juvenile, or prepubertal forms of periodontitis compared with adult periodontitis must be considered. A diagnosis of early-onset disease may (1) modify the periodontal treatment plan and may

[Salvage of a tooth with necrotised periodontium, caused by endodontic use of radiosurgery. Long-term results. Case report].

Electrosurgery and radiosurgery bear certain popularity in contemporary dentistry. Nevertheless, the inadequate treatment allocation may lead to tissue necrosis. A young female patient was referred to our department following root canal treatment (RCT) by radiosurgical device. Necrotised alveolar bone, lack of keratinized gingiva and increased tooth mobility were noticed. After considering all the treatment options, we attempted to keep the tooth. Therefore, the necrotised part of the alveolar process was removed and the gingival fringe was rejuvenated alongside root surface debridement. The t

Saving Single-rooted Teeth with Combined Endodontic-periodontal Lesions.

INTRODUCTION: Teeth affected by combined endodontic-periodontal lesions are usually considered by all prognosis classifications as hopeless teeth. The development of new biomaterials combined with modern endodontic and periodontal regeneration techniques may improve dental prognosis and maintain the affected teeth. Moreover, 1 of the replacement options for those teeth, dental implants, has shown an increasing number of biological and technical complications. METHODS: Five patients were included in this case series study. Full periodontal and radiographic examination revealed generalized chro

Influence of the Manufacturing Method on the Adhesion of Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans to Oral Splint Resins.

Microbial adhesion to oral splints may lead to oral diseases such as candidiasis, periodontitis or caries. The present in vitro study aimed to assess the effect of novel computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and conventional manufacturing on Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans adhesion to oral splint resins. Standardized specimens of four 3D-printed, two milled, one thermoformed and one pressed splint resin were assessed for surface roughness by widefield confocal microscopy and for surface free energy by contact angle measurements. Specimens were incubated with C.

Comparison of additive and subtractive digital workflow for the accuracy of removable occlusal stabilization-splints - an in-vitro study.

OBJECTIVES: Patients with stage IV periodontitis often require additional rehabilitation of the compromised dentition due to anatomical and functional consequences of tooth loss. Removable occlusal splints can be helpful in these advanced cases. This in-vitro study compared the accuracy and internal fit of removable occlusal splints fabricated by 3D-printing and milling from a standardized STL-file. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A standard-tessellation-language (STL)-file was created from a scanned master-model of the upper jaw and used for production of forty identical splints. Twenty splints were

The lingual pedicle. Case reports.

Poorly constructed and inadequately fitting mandibular removable partial dentures may be etiologic factors in producing localized lingual gingival recession. Two cases presented show that despite the limitations of access and muscle pull in the lingual mandibular anterior region, both full and partial thickness lingually laterally rotated pedical flaps can be successful in repairing denuded roots by root coverage and by increasing the width of keratinized attached gingiva.

[Injuries to the permanent teeth. Periodontal lesions].

Tooth luxations are relatively common. In case of concussion or subluxation the tooth is not displaced. The treatment will consist of relief of the tooth. Most frequent complications are pulp necrosis and obliteration of pulpal tissues. In case of extrusive luxation pulpal tissues and the periodontal ligament are injured. When tooth mobility is increased flexible splinting should be considered. Endodontic treatment is necessary after extrusive luxation of a tooth with completed root formation. Teeth with open apex often show pulpal obliteration after extensive luxation. Lateral luxation is mor

Diagnosis and management of root fractures and periodontal ligament injury.

Although root fractures are among the less common oral injuries (6 percent), a careful diagnostic evaluation of such injuries is required to arrive at an appropriate treatment plan. The position of the fracture in the root will determine the proper management. The problem of luxation due to trauma often involves the use of dental splints, which, if not properly designed, may cause root resorption, loss of alveolar bone, pulpal necrosis and pulp canal obliteration. The guidelines for the type of splint to use and conditions under which it should be placed are presented.

Incisal-Third Tunnel Splint (ITTS) Technique for Interim Stabilization of Mobile Anterior Teeth: A Two-Case Report.

Full-mouth extraction and replacement are usually staged, and the sequence may leave mobile anterior teeth in service for months before their planned removal-an interval calling for stabilization that is quick, well-tolerated, and appropriate for teeth shortly to be extracted. Two such intervals were managed with an incisal-third tunnel splint (ITTS): a shallow tunnel cut within the incisal third of the mandibular anterior teeth, receiving a passive stainless-steel wire enclosed with composite resin. Siting it there rather than lingually places the restoration away from the gingival third and

Eleven-year clinical performance of a mandibular natural tooth pontic bonded with modified tri-n-butylborane initiated adhesive resin.

This clinical report describes the bonding procedure and clinical course of a natural tooth pontic in a 65-year-old male patient. A mandibular lateral incisor was extracted due to severe marginal periodontitis. The root of the tooth was amputated and a pontic structure was formed by filling acrylic resin into the coronal pulp chamber space. The enamel surface of the pontic and the adjacent abutment teeth were etched with phosphoric acid gel. The pontic was bonded with a modified tri-n-butylborane initiated adhesive resin (Super-Bond Quick). The connecters fractured 11 years after bonding when
