Degradation of Pesticide Residues in Water, Soil, and Food Products via Cold Plasma Technology.

Water, soil, and food products contain pesticide residues. These residues result from excessive pesticides use, motivated by the fact that agricultural productivity can be increased by the use of these pesticides. The accumulation of these residues in the body can cause health problems, leading to food safety concerns. Cold plasma technology has been successfully employed in various applications, such as seed germination, bacterial inactivation, wound disinfection, surface sterilization, and pesticide degradation. In recent years, researchers have increasingly explored the effectiveness of col

Recent Advances in Nanoparticle-Based Optical Sensors for Detection of Pesticide Residues in Soil.

The excessive and unreasonable use of pesticides has adversely affected the environment and human health. The soil, one of the most critical natural resources supporting human survival and development, accumulates large amounts of pesticide residues. Compared to traditional spectrophotometry analytical methods, nanoparticle-based sensors stand out for their simplicity of operation as well as their high sensitivity and low detection limits. In this review, we focus primarily on the functions that various nanoparticles have and how they can be used to detect various pesticide residues in soil. A

Advancement and New Trends in Analysis of Pesticide Residues in Food: A Comprehensive Review.

Food safety is a rising challenge worldwide due to the expanding population and the need to produce food to feed the growing population. At the same time, pesticide residues found in high concentrations in fresh agriculture pose a significant threat to food safety. Presently, crop output is being increased by applying herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, pesticides, fertilizers, nematicides, and soil amendments. A combination of factors, including bioaccumulation, widespread usage, selective toxicity, and stability, make pesticides among the most toxic compounds polluting the environment. The

[Progress in preparation of plant biomass-derived biochar and application in pesticide residues field].

Pesticides such as insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides play an important role in the global agricultural industry as they reduce the occurrence of crop diseases, kill pests, and remove weeds. On the other hand, these pesticides are a double-edged sword because they have both acute effects and chronic adverse effects on human health. The widespread use of pesticides has led to their persistence in soil, water, and agricultural products, thus posing a serious threat to public health. Therefore, the removal and analysis of pesticides are critical to protecting human safety and health. When r

Tracking pesticide residues: The fate of epoxiconazole and prochloraz from orchard to apple products.

BACKGROUND: Given the importance of food safety, it is crucial to monitor the fate and levels of pesticide residues in apple products throughout commercial processing. This study investigates how key processing steps - including washing, juicing, enzymolysis, sterilization, and filtration - affect the residues of epoxiconazole and prochloraz in apples using pilot-scale equipment. The processing factors (PFs) for epoxiconazole and prochloraz were calculated, and a corresponding systematic risk assessment was carried out. Epoxiconazole residues were analyzed using a modified QuEChERS (quick, eas

Occurrence of pesticide residues in indoor dust of farmworker households across Europe and Argentina.

Pesticides are widely used as plant protection products (PPPs) in farming systems to preserve crops against pests, weeds, and fungal diseases. Indoor dust can act as a chemical repository revealing occurrence of pesticides in the indoor environment at the time of sampling and the (recent) past. This in turn provides information on the exposure of humans to pesticides in their homes. In the present study, part of the Horizon 2020 funded SPRINT project, the presence of 198 pesticide residues was assessed in 128 indoor dust samples from both conventional and organic farmworker households across E

[Advances in application of molecularly imprinted polymers to the detection of polar pesticide residues].

Polar pesticides can be primarily classified as fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides; their rich variety and low cost have led to their extensive utilization in agriculture. However, the overuse of polar pesticides can lead to environmental contamination, such as water or soil pollution, which can also increase the risk of pesticide exposure among human life directly, or indirectly through contact with animal and plant-derived food. There are considerable differences in the physical and chemical properties of polar pesticides, as well as their trace amounts in complex food and environmenta

Pesticide residues in drinking water, their potential risk to human health and removal options.

The application of pesticides in agricultural and public health sectors has resulted in substantially contaminated water resources with residues in many countries. Almost no reviews have addressed pesticide residues in drinking water globally; calculated hazard indices for adults, children, and infants; or discussed the potential health risk of pesticides to the human population. The objectives of this article were to summarize advances in research related to pesticide residues in drinking water; conduct health risk assessments by estimating the daily intake of pesticide residues consumed only

Assessment of Pesticide Residue Content in Polish Agricultural Soils.

Pesticides belong to a group of xenobiotics harmful to humans and wildlife, whose fate and activity depends on their susceptibility to degradation. Therefore, the monitoring of their residue level in agricultural soils is very important because it provides very valuable information on the actual level of soil contamination and environmental risk resulting from their application. The aim of this study was to evaluate contemporary concentrations of organochlorine (OCPs) and non-chlorinated pesticides (NCPs) in arable soils of Poland as an example of Central and Eastern European countries. The re

A review of the effect of different application rates on pesticide residue levels in supervised residue trials.

Residue trial data reported by the Joint FAO/WHO Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) have been reviewed to establish whether or not the resulting residues in harvested commodities are proportional to the pesticide application rate used on the crop. Numerous sets of trials were identified where the only parameter varied was application rate or spray concentration. Analysis of this database in terms of application rate, spray concentration, formulation type, preharvest interval, crop, pesticide, residue level and application type confirms that residues scale with application rate (proportionali

A Sensitive and Simple Method for Trace Analysis of Pesticide Residues in Plant Guttation Fluids.

Analysis of pesticide residues in guttation fluids remains challenging due to the small quantity of fluids. A multimode inlet technique was utilized to increase the detectability of 12 pesticide residues in guttation fluids on Epipremnum aureum leaves collected with a pipet. A 500-μL sample of guttation fluid was vortex-extracted with an equal volume of dichloromethane. The extracts were dried over sodium sulfate anhydrous, followed by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis. Multiple injection mode and solvent vent mode were combined for a large-volume injection (e.g., 10 μL). Th
