Duodenogastric reflux was studied in fasting dogs with gastric and duodenal cannulae, by means of recovery from the gastric cannula of phenol red infused into the duodenum and bile acids recovered from the gastric cannula. The effect of atropine sulfate, trihexyphenidyl HCl, benztropine mesylate, diphenhydramine HCl and ethopropazine HCl on gastric emptying and intestinal transit of a phenol red solution in the rat was examined. We reported the efficacy of interval hysteroscopic tubal catherization and hydrotubation for three months in 54 infertile women with tubal obstruction (102 fallopian tubes). By comparison of HSGs before and after treatment, 86 of 102 tubes (84%) showed the improvement of tubal patency (P < 0.01). 56 tubes were patent (54.9%). 2-[(3-Pyridinylmethyl)thio]pyrimidine derivatives (1a-n) promote the excretion of phenol red into the mouse trachea, indicating an increased tracheobronchial secretion. Furthermore, 2-[(3-pyridinylmethyl)thio]pyrimidine (1a) (tasuldine) produces greater excretion of phenol red into the mouse trachea after systemic administration than the known bronchosecretolytic ambroxol. To evaluate the gastroesophageal (GE) scintiscan, a technique which detects and quantitates GE reflux, 30 patients with heartburn and a positive acid-reflux test and 20 normal control subjects were studied. Absolute perfection in microvascular surgery continues to be thwarted by technical inadequacies in construction of the microanastomosis. Occasionally this is a consequence of limited visualization or misidentification of the intima proper predisposing to thrombosis. At least in rats, we have demonstrated that intimal staining with clinically inert vital dyes has enhanced gross appreciation of the exact intimal location. This maneuver has simplified suture placement without evidence of any associated increased risk of anastomotic failure.

UNLABELLED: We report the design, testing, and in vivo application of pH-sensitive contrast agents designed specifically for Cerenkov imaging. Radioisotopes used for PET emit photons via Cerenkov radiation. The multispectral emission of Cerenkov radiation allows for selective bandwidth quenching, in which a band of photons is quenched by absorption by a functional dye. Under acidic conditions, (18)F-labeled derivatives emit the full spectrum of Cerenkov light.
