Pilomatrixoma is a rare benign skin tumor originating from piliferous follicles, corresponding to a firm subcutaneous nodule requiring histology for diagnosis. Breast localization is considered to be very rare . Only few breast pilomatricomas have been reported, with imaging showing well defined nodules with microcalcifications, presenting as ACR BI-RADS 4 and 5, suspicious for a breast neoplasm . We report a case of pilomatrixoma of the left breast of a 33 year old woman, appearing as a firm, deep nodule in the lower outer quadrant. The lesion had mammographic and sonographic finding mimiking

Pilomatrixoma is a rare subcutaneous tumor originating from the cellular matrix of hair follicles. While it predominantly arises during the first two decades of life, its occurrence in elderly patients is exceedingly rare. We present the case of an 83-year-old woman with a recently growing, indurated nodule located on the right upper eyelid. Her medical history included left breast cancer treated with tumorectomy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, with remission since 2012. Given her advanced age and oncological history, differential diagnoses included malignant tumors, metastasis, or recurrence

Pilomatrixoma is a benign, asymptomatic skin tumor that forms from hair follicle matrix cells. Most are under 3 cm in diameter and occur on the head, face, or neck. Bullous appearance is very rare in pilomatrixoma. In this case report, we present a case of bullous pilomatrixoma of unusual size, region, symptoms, and patient age. It had been misdiagnosed as a keloid and as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. Early treatments were ineffective. The patient approached our outpatient facility and underwent excision. He was then diagnosed with pilomatrixoma by pathological examination. The clinical app

Pilomatrixomas are uncommon benign skin neoplasms arising from the hair follicle matrix. They occur more commonly in children than adults. Most originate on the head, neck, or upper extremities, less commonly on the trunk or lower extremities, and very infrequently in the breast. We present a rare case of pilomatrixoma of the breast in an adult male. As the patient had a strong family history of breast cancer, a full work-up of the breast mass was performed. Ultimately, an excisional biopsy was carried out for patient reassurance.

Pilomatrixoma is a common, but frequently misdiagnosed, benign skin tumor in childhood. This retrospective study evaluated the clinical diagnostic challenges, anatomic distribution, and surgical outcomes of pediatric pilomatrixoma in 74 patients aged 0 to 18 years with a histopathologically confirmed diagnosis, treated between 2017 and 2026. The mean age was 10.4 years, with a female-to-male ratio of 1.5:1. Lesions were located in the head and neck in 67.6% of the patients, most often in the neck (42.0%), with the posterior neck being the single most common subsite, with a median greatest diam

Tetrasomy 9p is a rare genetic syndrome resulting from two additional copies of the short arm of chromosome 9. Symptoms often present in the form of congenital abnormalities including cognitive disabilities, growth retardation, abnormal earlobes, congenital heart disease, and dysmorphia of the skull and face. Current literature suggests patients with tetrasomy 9p may exhibit any combination of these symptoms or, in rare instances, none at all. Although karyotyping, chromosomal microarray, and galactose-1-phosphate uridyltransferase activity analyses are the definitive diagnostic methods used,

To examine the properties of shadow and ghost cells, 3 kinds of antibodies were raised against human hair proteins and their immunoreactivity was examined in tumors expressing those cells: pilomatrixoma, 14 cases; craniopharyngioma, 17 cases; and calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC), 14 cases. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and Western blot analyses demonstrated that 2 polyclonal antibodies, PA-HP1 and PA-HP 2, reacted strongly with type I acidic and type II neutral/basic hard alpha-keratins. The other monoclonal antibody, MA-HP1, reacted with type II neutral/basic hard

Pilomatrixoma is a benign adnexal neoplasm derived from hair matrix cells. Giant pilomatrixoma (GP) is an uncommon clinical variant that may pose a diagnostic challenge because of its resemblance to soft tissue neoplasms. We report two cases of GP with distinct clinical presentations. The first case involved a 22-year-old woman presenting with a right suprascapular mass measuring 14 × 8 × 5 cm, with slow progressive enlargement over three years. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well-circumscribed lesion with calcification foci. Complete surgical excision was performed, and histopathologic

OBJECTIVES: To describe the clinical presentations and discuss the guidelines for surgical management of pilomatrixoma involving the head and neck in children.
DESIGN: Retrospective study.
SETTING: A tertiary care center.
PATIENTS: Thirty-three patients, with a mean age of 4.5 years, underwent surgical treatment for pilomatrixoma (n = 38) between 1989 and 1997.
INTERVENTION: All patients were treated surgically. In 34 cases, a direct approach was used to achieve complete removal of the lesion with (n = 11) or without (n = 23) skin resection. In the remaining 4 cases, an indirect approach v

Pilomatrixomas (benign epithelioma of Malherbe) are often located in the eyelid or eyebrow. Clinically the diagnosis is rarely made. Histologically, especially in partial biopsies, they can be confused with a basal cell carcinoma. We evaluated 17 tumors in 17 patients (19 months to 80 years old). The interval between the diagnosis and total excision of the mass ranged from 4 weeks to 2 years. The clinical misdiagnosis appeared to be related to the patient's age: A cystic dermoid (4x) was considered most frequently in children and sebaceous cyst or atheroma (5x) in patients of middle age. BACKGROUND: Malignant pilomatrixoma (also known as pilomatrix carcinoma) is a very rare malignant neoplasm derived from the hair matrix. These slow-growing malignancies of the skin are found in the lower dermis and subcutaneous fat layer. They can exhibit local aggressive behavior or distant metastasis. This malignancy can arise as a solitary lesion de novo or through transformation of a pilomatrixoma over a long period. There is no known distinct etiologic factor or predisposing condition for this kind of malignancy.
OBJECTIVE AND CONCLUSION: We present an interesting case of a 65-year-old m

BACKGROUND: Ocular adnexal IgG4-related sclerosing disease (IgG4-SD) has been categorized as a novel disease entity. It is characterized by stromal sclerosis and an infiltration of mass-forming lymphoplasmic cells containing many IgG4-positive plasma cells. Although ocular adnexal tissue involvement has been increasingly reported, a focal nodular sub-brow mass is not typical in an IgG4-SD presentation. We report a rare case of probable ocular adnexal IgG4-SD that clinically mimicked eyelid pilomatrixoma.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 42-year-old woman presented with a nodular mass in her left sub-brow

Pilomatrix carcinoma is a rare tumor arising from the hair follicle matrix cells most commonly seen in the head and neck region. Also known as "calcified epithelial carcinoma of Melherbe," it was first reported in 1980 by Lopansri and Mihm. Since then till date to the best of our knowledge only around 125 cases were reported in literature, of which only 11 cases were reported to arise from histologically proven areas of previous pilomatrixoma which is the benign variant. One such case is being reported here along with the review of literature. A 50-year-old man presented with a swelling in the

Pilomatrixoma is a benign skin adnexal tumor arising from the hair-follicle matrix. While typically small and slowly growing, rare "giant" variants (>5 cm)-especially in the cervical region-may clinically and radiologically mimic malignant masses, posing a significant diagnostic challenge. We report a case of a 29-year-old male presenting with a solitary, firm, subcutaneous mass (~6 cm) in the left anterior cervical region, which enlarged rapidly over 6 months without pain or systemic symptoms. Contrast-enhanced CT revealed a well-defined, heterogeneous subcutaneous lesion without muscular or

Pilomatrixoma (PMX) is a skin appendage tumor of hair matrix origin, which usually occurs on the face or upper extremities. Although the lesion can appear at any age, it is commonly seen in children and is more common in females. Despite being better defined, pilomatricomas continue to be frequently misdiagnosed and are not usually considered in differential diagnoses, either in clinical set-up or during cytological reporting. They typically present as a superficial, firm, solitary, slow-growing, painless mass in the dermis. The overlying skin may be normal or exhibit a bluish-red discoloratio

BACKGROUND Pilomatrixoma, pilomatricoma, or calcifying epithelioma of Malherbe, is a common benign tumor that arises from the base of the hair follicle. Pilomatrixoma has previously been reported at vaccination sites. This report is of a 65-year-old man with an 18-month history of an enlarging pilomatrixoma of the left upper arm at the vaccination site, following a first COVID-19 vaccination. CASE REPORT The case involves a 65-year-old man who developed a left shoulder mass 1.5 years ago. The mass appeared at his COVID-19 vaccine site 3 months after receiving the first dose. The mass measures

BACKGROUND: Pilomatrixoma, craniopharyngioma, and calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor are the main entities presenting ghost cells as an important histological feature, in spite their quite different clinical presentation; it seems that they share a common pathway in the formation of these cells. The aim of this study is to examine and compare the characteristics of ghost and other cells that form these lesions.
METHODS: Forty-three cases including 21 pilomatrixomas, 14 craniopharyngiomas, and eight calcifying cystic odontogenic tumors were evaluated by immunohistochemistry for cytokeratins,
