Quantitative Evaluation of Gastrorenal Shunt Morphology Using Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography Portography: Comparison With Intraoperative Venography.

BACKGROUND: Gastric varices are a serious complication of portal hypertension and may cause life-threatening bleeding when ruptured. Balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO) is a standard endovascular treatment performed via the gastrorenal shunt (GRS). The present study examined concordance between three-dimensional computed tomography (3DCT) portography and intraoperative venography at the GRS outflow and evaluated the utility of 3DCT portography for preprocedural planning. METHODS: Nineteen patients who underwent BRTO between 2017 and 2024 were retrospectively analyzed.

[Transjugular puncture of the portal vein. Portography and selective phlebography of abdominal organs. An experimental study in dogs (author's transl)].

Transjugular transhepatic portography is a new method for catheterising the portal vein and its tributaries. In order to gather experience of the method before applying it clinically, the transvenous approach was studied in six dogs. Transjugular portography has the following advantages as compared with umbilical vein catheterization and percutaneous, transhepatic portal vein catherterisation: 1. Because of the relative positions of the jugular veins, vena cava and portal vein, manipulation of the catheter for selective phlebography is simpler. 2. There is no risk of a haemoperitoneum or bile

Gallbladder varices: demonstration of direct communication to intrahepatic portal veins by color doppler sonography and CT during arterial portography.

Gallbladder varices were correctly diagnosed by color Doppler sonography and computed tomography during arterial portography (CTAP) in two patients with portal vein thrombosis. One patient with multiple hepatocellular carcinomas showed extrahepatic and intrahepatic portal vein occlusion by a tumor thrombus. The other patient, with liver cirrhosis, had a portal vein thrombosis. Color Doppler sonography clearly showed the portal vein occlusion, cavernous transformation of collateral veins, and gallbladder varices that drained into the intrahepatic portal venous branches. The intrahepatic portal
