Lateral T-Capsulotomy with Hip Arthroscopy for Access and Excision of Posterior Intra-Articular Mass.

There is a lack of literature regarding arthroscopic access to the posterior peripheral compartment of the hip. Compared with open surgery, arthroscopy offers less-invasive treatment for intra-articular mass excision. Arthroscopic hip mass excision has focused on selective resection of lesions in the central compartment and anterior peripheral compartment due to difficult and previously undescribed posterior access. We introduce a technique for arthroscopic excision of a posterior intra-articular hip mass consistent with pigmented villonodular synovitis, also known as tenosynovial giant cell t

Posterior elbow capsulotomy with triceps lengthening for treatment of elbow extension contracture in children with arthrogryposis.

BACKGROUND: Flexion of one elbow is essential to enable children with arthrogryposis to achieve independent function such as self-feeding and self-care of the face and hair. We analyzed the outcomes of posterior elbow capsulotomy with triceps lengthening for the treatment of elbow extension contractures in a series of children with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. METHODS: The medical records of all children with arthrogryposis who had been followed for a minimum of two years after treatment with elbow capsulotomy and triceps lengthening were retrospectively reviewed. The postoperative ran

Retinal vascular density changes detected by optical coherence tomography angiography following Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy is a standard treatment for posterior capsule opacification. While effective, it may induce subclinical changes in retinal structure or perfusion. Optical coherence tomography angiography enables non-invasive visualisation of retinal microvasculature and is a valuable tool for monitoring potential vascular effects of intraocular laser procedures. BACKGROUND: Posterior capsule opacification is the most common delayed complication following cataract surgery. Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy is the standard treatment, but its effects on retinal micr

Angle-closure glaucoma associated with vitreous prolapse after neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminumgarnet laser posterior capsulotomy.

Capsulotomy with neodymium-doped yttriumaluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser is an effective treatment for posterior capsule opacification following cataract surgery. A wide opening of the posterior capsule associated with the ruptured anterior hyaloid can cause anterior chamber vitreous prolapse. Two patients who developed angle-closure glaucoma associated with vitreous prolapse following Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy were successfully treated with antiglaucoma medication and peripheral iridotomies. Patient identification for potential risk factors and a careful postoperative follow-up are ess

A prospective study of angiographic cystoid macular edema one year after Nd: YAG posterior capsulotomy.

We prospectively studied 120 eyes with intact opacified posterior capsules in 120 consecutive patients to determine the incidence of new late-onset angiographic cystoid macular edema (CME) after neodynium: yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser posterior capsulotomy. Fifty-seven of 120 patients (48%) had both precapsulotomy and one-year post-capsulotomy angiograms done. Of these 57 patients, three eyes had angiographic CME before capsulotomy and two of these three cases had persistent CME one year after capsulotomy. In the other 54 patients, three new late-onset cases occurred (5.6%). Because

Should asymptomatic atrophic retinal holes be treated prophylactically in pseudophakic eyes after Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy?

BACKGROUND: Retinal detachment (RD) following cataract extraction is a serious and potentially sight-threatening event that will often necessitate further surgical intervention. Of the several risk factors reported in the literature, Neodymium:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy has been reported to increase the risk of RD following cataract surgery up to 4.9-fold. The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of characteristics in pseudophakic RD with or without Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy and the possible role of atrophic retinal holes in pseudophakic RD after posterior capsu
