The validity and reliability of the EValuation of INtervention Scale: preliminary report.

AIM: Pain management is a priority for infants receiving neonatal care as they undergo many necessary painful and stressful interventions, which are associated with negative short- or long-term consequences. This study aims to validate the content, and test the reliability, of the EValuation of INtervention Scale (EVIN), which is designed to evaluate the use of widely recommended nonpharmacological strategies to reduce neonatal pain and stress during procedures. METHODS: The content of the EVIN was validated with multidisciplinary participation (N = 80), and consistency was established via ob

A critique of project evaluations.

In recent years an increased stress has been placed on the evaluation of mental health, education, and welfare service programs. The majority of studies readily available to most evaluators represent local project evaluations which usually contain diverse references to different aspects of the evaluative process. For evaluative results to be even minimally useful to other projects, however, certain requirements must be met. These are: (1) internal validity, (2) external validity, (3) specification of the population and treatment being implemented, and (4) standardization of indicators of treat

Development of an evaluation indicator system for wound care quality based on the structure-process-outcome model: a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: As population aging accelerates and the burden of chronic diseases increases, the incidence of chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers and pressure injuries continues to rise. This trend not only worsens patient outcomes and quality of life but also strains the healthcare system. Traditional wound care assessments rely on isolated indicators, lack systematic monitoring, and fail to provide comprehensive evaluation throughout the care process, thereby limiting improvements in nursing quality. Based on Donabedian's structure-process-outcome framework, a thorough evaluation system

Perspective: Autonomic care systems for hospitalized patients.

With advancements of medical technology and improved diagnostic and treatment options, children with severe birth defects who would otherwise have no chance of surviving post birth survive to go home every day. The average lifespan in the United States has increased substantially over the last century. These successes and many other medical breakthroughs in managing complex illnesses, particularly in frail, elderly patients, have resulted in an increasing percentage of patients with comorbidities. This, coupled with a policy change by Medicare (i.e., Medicare will no longer reimburse hospitals

A randomized controlled trial of a peer and clinician led group program for borderline personality disorder.

Objective: Remission and recovery from borderline personality disorder (BPD) is difficult, yet achievable, yet not all people benefit. Peers with lived experience of recovery from BPD as co-therapists may increase engagement, reduce stigma and strengthen hopefulness. We evaluated a peer and clinician co-led group therapy (AIR Peers) for consumers with BPD.Methods: Eighty-three participants (88% female, M age = 36yrs) were randomized into either AIR Peers therapy (n = 43) or treatment as usual (TAU; n = 40). The intervention was co-designed by people with lived experience and clinicians. It inv

Biting the Hands that Feed "the Alligators": A Case Study in Morbid Obesity Extremes, End-of-Life Care, and Prohibitions on Harming and Accelerating the End of Life.

Obesity, recognized as a disease in the U.S. and at times as a terminal illness due to associated medical complications, is an American epidemic according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ("CDC"), American Heart Association ("AHA"), and other authorities. More than one third of Americans (39.8% of adults and 18.5% of children) are medically obese. This article focuses on cases of "extreme morbid obesity" ("EMO")-situations in which death is imminent without aggressive medical interventions, and bariatric surgery is the only treatment option with a realistic possibility of succ

Participation Rates, Process Monitoring, and Quality Improvement Among Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs in the United States: A NATIONAL SURVEY.

PURPOSE: Although strategies exist for improving cardiac rehabilitation (CR) participation rates, it is unclear how frequently these strategies are used and what efforts are being made by CR programs to improve participation rates. METHODS: We surveyed all CR program directors in the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation's database. Data collection included program characteristics, the use of specific referral and recruitment strategies, and self-reported program participation rates. RESULTS: Between 2007 and 2012, 49% of programs measured referral of inpatients

Evaluation of regional and nonregional poison centers.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether regional poison centers handle a particular poisoning situation better than nonregional centers do. Informed consent was obtained from 15 regional and 15 nonregional poison centers. A case involving salicylate ingestion by a three-year-old child was presented twice (one day call and one night call) to each center. Those answering the phone at the regional centers asked more information-gathering questions than did those at the nonregional centers (P less than 0.01) and were more proficient in their history taking (P less than 0.01). Nonregiona

[Baden-Württemberg quality assurance in surgery].

In the hospitals of Baden-Württemberg quality assurance is performed by means of tracers e.g. with standardized guidelines for diagnosis and therapy in femur fractures, appendectomies, cholelithiasis/cholecystitis, cancer of the rectum. In the first part datas of each patient are collected, examined and evaluated. One part of the evaluation includes all patients, the other part only patients of one clinic. This particular clinic has thus the possibility to compare its results with the average results of all clinics. A Consilium Chirurgicum (Surgical Study Group) defines the reference scope and
