In this work, we sought to delineate the prevalence of cardiothoracic imaging findings of Proteus syndrome in a large cohort at our institution. Of 53 individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of Proteus syndrome at our institution from 10/2001 to 10/2019, 38 individuals (men, n = 23; average age = 24 years) underwent cardiothoracic imaging (routine chest CT, CT pulmonary angiography and/or cardiac MRI). All studies were retrospectively and independently reviewed by two fellowship-trained cardiothoracic readers. Disagreements were resolved by consensus. Differences between variables were analyzed

Proteus Syndrome is a rare congenital hamartomatous disorder that typically manifests itself in overgrowth, vascular malformation and disregulation of fatty tissue. The tissues affected are commonly the limbs but can be of any tissue. Vascular anomalies are common and appear at random sites on the body. Diagnosis is often difficult leading to wrong treatment. We describe a case of a 17-year-old girl with Proteus syndrome presented with symptomatic anaemia secondary to chronic rectal bleeding. Computed Tomography Angiogram of Abdomen and Pelvis confirmed the presence of rectal vascular malforma

Proteus syndrome, a disorder which consists of skeletal, hamartomatous and other mesodermal malformations proves to be tremendously variable. Although most of the patients show deformities at birth, the diagnosis is usually made later in life as the phenotype develops over time. We report on the case of a fetus presenting in utero, with a cystic abdominal mass and malposition of the fingers, which was found to have additional features of Proteus syndrome after termination of pregnancy. This case demonstrates that severe cases of Proteus syndrome can be detected prenatally.

PurposeProteus syndrome is a rare mosaic overgrowth disorder that is associated with severe complications. While anecdotal data have suggested that the life span of affected patients is reduced, this has not been measured. Mortality data on rare diseases is critical for assessing treatments and other interventions.MethodsTo address this we used the clinical research records of 64 patients in a longitudinal natural history cohort at the National Institutes of Health to ascertain the data in an organized manner and estimate survival using a Kaplan-Meier approach.ResultsThe median age of diagnosi

Intraosseous lipomas are almost exclusively seen in the long bones. Presence in the craniofacial skeleton is extremely rare. A 7-year-old male is presented with a marked craniofacial deformation from a bony tumor containing an intraosseous lipoma. This finding established a clinical diagnosis of Proteus syndrome. Given the size of the tumor, producing an extensive deformity, three-dimensional modeling was used to generate a three-dimensional printed implant. The process to achieve a successful outcome is herein described.

Proteus syndrome (PS) is an extremely rare and complex disease characterized by malformations and overgrowth of different tissues. Prognosis of affected patients may be complicated by premature death, mostly due to pulmonary embolism and respiratory failure. To date, immunological data in Proteus syndrome are scarse. We report on the novel immunologic findings of a 15 years old girl affected with PS. Detailed T and B cell evaluation revealed maturational alterations for both subsets and functional hyperactivation for the latter. Such findings have not been reported previously in PS and may be t

BACKGROUND: Proteus syndrome is a very rare condition with less than 100 confirmed cases reported worldwide. We report a case of Proteus syndrome in a two-year-old male who has hemophilia A comorbidity.
CASE PRESENTATION: A two-year-old male patient was admitted with the chief complaint of severe bleeding in mouth cavity after trauma for two weeks. At admission he was found to have petechiae on buccal mucosa and fecal discoloration due to GI bleeding. We noted multiple abnormalities in his musculoskeletal system and skin. He had lymph edema in left leg, hemihypertrophy, macrodactyly in both f

Proteus syndrome is a very rare, sporadic and congenital condition that is characterized by postnatal mosaic overgrowth. This disorder is thought to be caused by a somatic gene mutation, but the exact etiology is unknown. Commonly involved tissues include connective tissue, bone, skin and the central nervous system. Another less common symptom involves pulmonary emphysematous changes. This report documents a 25-year-old man with Proteus syndrome who presented with progressive exertional dyspnea and asymmetric overgrowth of his extremities. He underwent left pneumonectomy and his postoperative

Proteus syndrome is a rare congenital hamartomatous condition that is characterized by a wide range of malformations, occasionally involving the head and the face. Skin and skeletal developmental malformations are common and may be manifested in significant physical anomalies. In this report, we describe the cases of 2 patients affected by this condition. For one patient, a recurrence occurred 4 years after the elimination of cranial hyperostosis. In the second patient, although we observed macrosomia and peculiar countenance in the context of craniofacial hyperostosis, the patient did not vis

INTRODUCTION: Proteus syndrome (PS) is a rarely seen, sporadic disorder with a wide range of abnormalities including asymmetrical overgrowth, skin lesions, dysregulated adipose tissue, and vascular malformations. Brain and spinal malformations are extremely rare; syringohydromyelia and arachnoid cyst have not been reported previously.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We present a 5-year-old girl with PS having severe central nervous system (CNS) abnormalities demonstrated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) including craniocutaneous lipomatosis, hemimegalencephaly, arachnoid cyst, and syringohydromyeli

Proteus syndrome is a complex disorder comprising malformations and overgrowth of multiple tissues and characterized by its polymorphism and mosaicism. The syndrome is rare and sporadic. Oliveira M da C et al reported the first case of Proteus syndrome associated with precocious puberty in a boy. We are reporting a case of a 7-month old girl with Proteus syndrome who developed a juvenile granulosa cell tumor in one ovary causing precocious puberty. At our knowledge this is the first case of Proteus syndrome with precocious puberty in a female.

Published articles on the radiologic aspects of Proteus syndrome are sparse. This report highlights the features of this disease with specific attention to the serious pulmonary manifestations that may occur at an early age. Two cases of Proteus syndrome and severe lung disease are presented, with complete autopsy in one case and correlative surgical pathologic data in the other. Multiple superficial and visceral vascular abnormalities were present in both cases. Both patients developed rapidly progressive diffuse cystic emphysematous pulmonary disease leading to the death of one patient at ag

We report on 2 children with spinal stenosis and neurologic sequelae. They illustrate the 2 ways in which spinal compromise may develop in Proteus syndrome--vertebral anomalies or tumor infiltration. In one patient, spinal stenosis resulted from an angular kyphoscoliosis. In the other, cord compression resulted from infiltration of a paraspinal, intrathoracic angiolipoma.

We report on the course of a 4 1/2-year-old boy with Proteus syndrome who was first described 3 years ago. Details are given on the phenotypic changes, the complications of corrective surgery on tissue overgrowth, and the development of a mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis of the testis.

BACKGROUND: Proteus syndrome (PS) is an extremely rare disease characterized by excessive chimeric growth of cells, and progressive and irregular asymmetrical hyperplasia.
CASE PRESENTATION: Herein, a PS case with atypical clinical features and syndromes was reported, to improve the understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The case was a 3-year-and-11-month-old male child. He was admitted due to a primary diagnosis of McCune-Albright syndrome. After admission, the lesion samples from the milk coffee spots, and nodular thickening skin at hands and feet were subjected to gen
