Effects of Prunella vulgaris polysaccharide-based O/W emulsions on water retention, protein conformation, and antioxidant properties of ultrasonically treated reduced-fat pork batter.

This study examined how Prunella vulgaris polysaccharides (PVP, 0, 2% and 4% w/w in the O/W emulsion) and ultrasonic treatment (0 and 30 min) affect key quality attributes of reduced-fat pork batter. Combined PVP and ultrasound significantly improved (P < 0.05) emulsifying stability and water-holding capacity, cutting cooking loss from 11.75% to 5.88%. PVP alone enhanced water-protein-polysaccharide interactions: it shortened T21 and T22 relaxation times, raised immobilized water from 86.18% to 93.95%, and lowered overall water mobility. It also altered myofibrillar protein structure, reducing

Spica Prunellae Extract Enhances Fluorouracil Sensitivity of 5-Fluorouracil-Resistant Human Colon Carcinoma HCT-8/5-FU Cells via TOP2α and miR-494.

The use of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) has been proven benefits, but it also has adverse events in colorectal cancer (CRC) chemotherapy. In this study, we explored the mechanism of 5-FU resistance by bioinformatics analysis of the NCBI public dataset series GSE81005. Fifteen hub genes were screened out of 582 different expressed genes. Modules of the hub genes in protein-protein interaction networks gathered to TOP2α showed a decrease in HCT-8 cells but an increase in 5-FU-resistant HCT-8/5-FU cells with 5-FU exposure. Downregulation of TOP2α with siRNA or miR-494 transfection resulted in an increas

Ursolic acid enhances pentobarbital-induced sleeping behaviors via GABAergic neurotransmission in mice.

Prunella vulgaris is widely used as a herbal medicine for cancers, inflammatory diseases, and other infections. Although it has long been used, few studies have examined its effects on central nervous system function. Here, we first observed that ethanolic extracts of P. vulgaris (EEPV) prolonged pentobarbital-induced sleep duration in mice. It is known that EEPV consists of many active components including triterpenoid (ursolic acid and oleanolic acid), which have many biological activities. Therefore, we evaluated which EEPV components induced sleep extension in pentobarbital-mediated sleepi

Effects of SKCPT on Osteoarthritis in Beagle Meniscectomy and Cranial Cruciate Ligament Transection Models.

Osteoarthritis (OA) affects >500 million people globally, and this number is expected to increase. OA management primarily focuses on symptom alleviation, using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including Celecoxib. However, such medication has serious side effects, emphasizing the need for disease-specific treatment. The meniscectomy and cranial cruciate ligament transection (CCLx)-treated beagle dog was used to investigate the efficacy of a modified-release formulation of SKI306X (SKCPT) from Clematis mandshurica, Prunella vulgaris, and Trichosanthes kirilowii in managing arthritis.
