Effects of taijiquan and qigong practice over behavioural disorders in school-age children: A pilot study.

Child development and wellness are strictly dependent on several factors among them physical activity, a proper nutrition and, of critical importance, a healthy mind. Psychopathologies like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder (CD) have a direct negative impact on social, academic or occupational functioning of the affected children. If left untreated, these pathologies may progress to adulthood, thus requiring research strategies on conventional and nonconventional modalities of treatment. In this pilot study, conducted duri

Changes in body and interoceptive awareness after Cognitive Multisensory Rehabilitation or Qigong in adults with spinal cord injury.

Brain imaging studies have demonstrated that adults with spinal cord injury (SCI) exhibit deficits in body and interoceptive awareness. However, there is limited research on the degree and impact of these deficits. Few clinical trials have examined interventions to improve body and interoceptive awareness in this population. We compared scores on the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness, Version 2 (MAIA-2) and the Revised Body Awareness Rating Questionnaire (BARQ-R) between adults with SCI and uninjured adults. We also assessed changes in body and interoceptive awareness in a

Effectiveness of Mindfulness and Qigong Training for Self-Healing in patients with Hwabyung and depressive disorder: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Hwabyung is a Korean culture-bound syndrome characterized by anger-related physical and psychological symptoms. Depressive disorder is a common mental disorder that occurs worldwide and is highly comorbid with Hwabyung. In traditional East Asian medicine, both Hwabyung and depression are associated with an imbalance in vital energy termed qi. Mindfulness induces psychosomatic balance, and qigong facilitates the cultivation and regulation of qi, which may be effective treatments for Hwabyung and depression. This study aimed to investigate whether Mindfulness and Qigong Training for

A tai chi/qigong intervention for older adults living with HIV: a study protocol of an exploratory clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Almost half of people living with HIV (PLWH) in the USA are over 50 years of age; this is expected to increase to 70% by 2020. Yet, few interventions exist for older PLWH that address psychological and physical symptoms combined, both prevalent in this population. There is a need to find innovative and accessible interventions that can help older PLWH to manage their symptoms. Mind-body interventions, like tai chi/qigong (TCQ), improve both physical and psychological health. TCQ is a series of slow, low-impact meditative movements that integrates breathwork, meditation, and stances
