Radiofrequency ablation therapy in concealed left free wall accessory pathway with decremental conduction.

An electrophysiologic study followed by transcatheter radiofrequency ablation therapy was performed in two adult patients with a permanent form of junctional tachycardia. Both patients had no structural heart disease and exhibited a normal resting ECG. The P wave during tachycardia was negative in leads 1, 3, and aVF, biphasic over V6, and positive in V1 and aVL in both patients, while the P-R/R-P interval ratio during tachycardia was 0.82 and 0.36, respectively, in both patients. Both patients displayed an eccentric atrial activation sequence with the earliest atrial activation occurring at t

Combined ethanol injection therapy and radiofrequency ablation therapy in percutaneous treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma larger than 4 cm.

BACKGROUND: Optimal treatment of large-sized hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still debated, because percutaneous ablation therapies alone do not always achieve complete necrosis. OBJECTIVE: To report our experience in the treatment of patients with HCC larger than 4 cm in diameter by combined percutaneous ethanol injection and radiofrequency thermal ablation. METHODS: In a 5-year period there were 40 consecutive patients meeting the inclusion criteria (24 men and 16 women; age range 41-72 years, mean 58 years). These subjects had a single HCC larger than 4 cm. Twelve subjects also had one

Nonsurgical treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma: from percutaneous ethanol injection therapy and percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy to radiofrequency ablation.

Treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is different from that of other solid tumors, in that surgery plays a limited role while nonsurgical therapies are very instrumental. At our institute, 90% of previously untreated patients have received image-guided percutaneous tumor ablations, such as percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT), percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy (PMCT) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA). We performed PEIT in 756 patients with HCC. Their survival rates were 89% at 1 year, 64% at 3 years, 39% at 5 years, and 18% at 10 years. With PMCT, survival rates of 122

Combination Therapy Using Radiofrequency Microneedling and Corticosteroids for Hypertrophic Scars: A Case Report.

Dysregulated scar formation can cause hypertrophic scarring, a difficult entity to treat. Although fractionated lasers are a popular therapy for hypertrophic scars, laser-induced epidermal damage might cause pigmentary changes in individuals with darker skin tones. Radiofrequency microneedling delivers ablative energy directly to the dermis and is safe for use in such patients. We present a case of hypertrophic scarring in a patient with Fitzpatrick Skin Type IV treated with a combination of radiofrequency microneedling, topical and intralesional corticosteroids, and intralesional onabotulinum

Endoscopic management of biliocutaneous fistula after percutaneous radiofrequency ablation therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma.

Our patient was a 70-year-old man with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver cirrhosis (Child-Pugh B). He had a history of distal gastrectomy with Billroth II reconstruction for duodenal ulcer and hepatectomy for HCC. One month after percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for recurrent HCC, biliocutaneous fistula was observed. The cholangiogram demonstrated leakage of contrast material from an intrahepatic duct into the fistula, and a nasobiliary catheter was placed. Subsequently, the discharge of bile steadily decreased and stopped. Follow-up cholangiogram revealed no evidence of bile

Radiofrequency hyperthermia as adjuvant therapy following surgical resection of an experimental malignant neoplasm.

Local recurrence after radical surgery is a major problem with many primary solid cancers. The use of radiofrequency hyperthermia (RFHT) as adjuvant therapy to surgery was explored in the Fischer bladder carcinoma (FBCa)/F344 rat tumor system. After subcutaneous innoculation of 34 rats with 10(6) FBCa cells in suspension, RFHT was administered to 17 animals on days 1, 5, 8, and 12. The development of palpable tumors was delayed but not prevented, and tumor growth was retarded in RFHT-treated animals. In another experiment 40 rats were innoculated by subcutaneous trocar injection with a 1 mm3 p

Progress in Radiofrequency Therapy for Zoster-Associated Pain About Parameters, Modes, Targets, and Combined Therapy: A Narrative Review.

Zoster-associated pain (ZAP) is a painful condition that significantly impacts a patient's quality of life, often leading to postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). Over 30% of patients with herpes probably experience PHN. However, the understanding and treatment of ZAP remain inadequate. Common interventional treatments include radiofrequency therapy, nerve blocks, epidural block, and spinal cord electrical stimulation. Among these, radiofrequency therapy is widely used for pain control in ZAP, but the standard pulsed radiofrequency technique can still be improved. Researchers have explored different r

Radiofrequency or cryoablation or medical therapy for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation: An indirect comparison of effectiveness.

BACKGROUND: Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) is commonly treated with pharmacological therapies, but these may be insufficient for symptom control. Radiofrequency and cryoballoon ablation have emerged as alternative strategies. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of cryoballoon ablation, radiofrequency ablation, and anti-arrhythmic drugs as initial therapies for symptomatic PAF based on randomized trial data. METHODS: Data were extracted from randomized trials, and individual patient data were reconstructed from Kaplan-Meier curves using artificial intelligence techniques. Time-to-ev

Low-energy radiofrequency catheter ablation as therapy for supraventricular tachycardia in a premature neonate.

UNLABELLED: A premature neonate with hydrops was born at 32 weeks of gestation after successful direct fetal amiodarone therapy via cordocentesis for incessant supraventricular tachycardia. After birth the tachycardia could not be controlled despite high doses of amiodarone and flecainide and the patient developed severe respiratory and circulatory failure. After 3 weeks, weighing 2 kg, he underwent successful and uncomplicated catheter ablation of a left free-wall accessory pathway using low-energy radiofrequency. CONCLUSION: radiofrequency catheter ablation is rarely used in neonates, but w

Photodynamic therapy combined with radiofrequency ablation and systemic therapy for KRAS-mutant advanced low rectal cancer: A case report.

The overall incidence of colorectal cancer, particularly the lower part of the rectum normally known as low rectal cancer, is globally on the rise, accounting for approximately 10% of all new oncology cases. KRAS, a common oncogenic mutant gene, has a mutation frequency of up to 40% in colorectal cancer and significantly impacts its prognosis and therapeutic outcomes. Anatomically, low rectal cancer usually develops in a deep and narrow pelvic space, adjacent to critical nerves and organs, posing significant challenges for radical resection. A 52-year-old female presented with an extremely low

Combined high-voltage pulsed radiofrequency and ozone therapy versus ozone therapy alone in treating postherpetic neuralgia: a retrospective comparison.

Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a devastating disease with extraordinarily poor treatment outcomes. Both pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) and ozone have good effects on the treatment of the disease. However, whether PRF and ozone have a synergistic effect on PHN remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the therapeutic effects of ozone alone and in combination with PRF in the treatment of PHN. Ninety-one patients with PHN were assigned into two groups: PRF combined with ozone (PRF + ozone group, n = 44) and ozone therapy alone (ozone group, n = 47). In PRF + ozone group, the high-volta

Advances in Adenomyosis Treatment: High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, Percutaneous Microwave Therapy, and Radiofrequency Ablation.

Background/Objectives: Adenomyosis is a debilitating gynecologic condition that affects both multiparous older women and nulliparous younger women, inducing a variety of symptoms such as dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, and infertility. Thermal ablation techniques are new procedures that have been proposed for the treatment of adenomyosis. They include high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), percutaneous microwave ablation (PMWA), and radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Because thermal ablation techniques are minimally invasive or noninvasive, fertility is not impaired while symptoms improve. In additi
