Distal radius fractures are common fractures that can cause significant disability. As techniques and implants have improved, better results can be expected from internal and external fixation of complex wrist fractures. With meticulous technique, articular alignment can be secured and small articular fragments can be replaced in anatomic locations through limited open or arthroscopic techniques. Bone graft should be used liberally in comminuted articular fractures. Such procedures are demanding, however. Familiarity with the techniques described in this article will enhance the surgeon's abil

Ligamentotaxis is the principle of molding fracture fragments into alignment as a result of tension applied across a fracture by the surrounding intact soft tissues. Uniplanar ligamentotaxis obtained by longitudinal traction does not always restore palmar tilt to the distal radius. Multiplanar ligamentotaxis extends the principle of uniplanar ligamentotaxis to include translation of the hand in the dorsal-palmar and the radial-ulnar planes to effect appositional and tilting alignment of the distal fragment(s) of a fractured radius. Use of an external fixator that allows adjustments in multiple

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effect of coronal bone structure matching(CBSM)in the treatment of distal radius fracture.
METHODS: A total of 39 cases of distal radius fracture between Jannary 2018 and Jannary 2022 were included in this study. Among them there were 22 males and 17 females with an average age of (48.9±16.3) years old, ranged from 22 to 65 years old. All patients were treated with open reduction and internal fixation with plates. Based on the measurement of CBSM value on the X-ray film the next day after surgery. All patients were divided into matched group and mismatch

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of patient characteristics, bone mineral density (BMD), bone microarchitecture and calculated bone strength with secondary displacement of a DRF based on radiographic alignment parameters.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Dorsal angulation, radial inclination and ulnar variance were assessed on conventional radiographs of a cohort of 251 patients, 38 men and 213 women, to determine the anatomic position of the DRF at presentation (primary position) and during follow-up. Secondary fracture displacement was assessed in the non-operat

BACKGROUND: As distal radius fractures as well as diagnostic and therapeutic options vary widely, there is an enormous potential for deficient convalescence and subsequent patient dissatisfaction. The aim of this study is the evaluation of malpractice in distal radius fracture management, which could help to draw conclusions regarding optimization and prevention as well as raising patient satisfaction and minimizing subsequent costs.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Files and patient data of all distal radius fracture complaints regarding one public hospital operator in a period between 2007 and 2017 we

Metaphyseal and physeal fractures of the distal radius are common in children. Most cases are best treated with closed reduction and cast immobilization. Long-term outcomes of these injuries are excellent when specific treatment principles of reduction and casting are followed. Surgical indications are limited and include open fractures, intra-articular fractures, non-reducible fractures, unstable fractures, and the presence of associated nerve injury. Closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation is the most commonly used surgical option. The clinician should be aware of delayed complication

Despite the frequency of distal radius fractures, the optimal treatment remains without consensus opinion. A trend toward increased distal radius fracture open reduction and internal fixation has been identified, with biomechanical and clinical studies suggesting treatment advantages of certain fixation methods over others. Well-controlled patient trials are still missing to lend objective findings to management algorithms. This article reviews the literature over the past 5 years to guide our management regarding this common upper-extremity injury.

Thrombocytopenia-absent radius - TAR-syndrome is a rare condition in which thrombocytopenia is associated with bilateral radial aplasia. TAR syndrome was first described in 1956 by H. Cross et al. An autosomal recessive inheritance pattern was proposed because TAR affected more than one member of some families. The disease varies and includes abnormalities in the skeletal, hematological, cardiac, gastrointestinal and other systems. In article the 30 day infant with thrombocytopenia-absent radius - TAR-syndrome is described. The diagnose was confirmed by clinical, laboratory, radiological, gene

Fractures occur at the distal end of the radius more frequently than at any other location. The reported complication rates of distal radius fractures in the literature vary from 6% to 80%. Complications may occur from the fracture or its treatment. This article reviews complications caused by distal radius fractures and their treatment. Complications are divided chronologically into immediate, early (less than 6 weeks), and late (greater than 6 weeks).

Despite the frequency of distal radius fractures, studies in the existing literature have not been able to determine the optimal surgical strategies for various fracture patterns. Numerous clinical articles have been written, but most are level IV case series or expert opinion reviews. Good biomechanics studies have been published that suggest advantages of certain fixation methods over others. Transference of these expectations to clinical reality, however, requires well-controlled patient trials. In large part, this has not happened. This article reviews the theoretical pros and cons of diff

Nonunion of a distal radius fracture is extremely uncommon. Healing problems in the distal radius seem to be related to unstable situations, such as concomitant fracture of the distal radius and ulna, and to an inadequate period of immobilization. Nonunion should be suspected if there is continuing pain after remobilization of the wrist in combination with a progressing deformity. The diagnosis may be confirmed by showing movement at the fracture site on lateral radiographs of the wrist in flexion and extension. Because of the rarity of distal radius fracture nonunion, it is not surprising tha

Forty examples (27 from the literature and 13 new cases) of a syndrome of hypomegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia with bilateral absence of the radius have been analyzed. This syndrome is designated in this paper as "thrombocytopenia with absent radius (TAR)". The onset of hematologic complications usually occurs at birth or during early infancy. Thrombocytopenia may be episodic and sometimes is accompanied by leukemoid reactions and eosinophilia. Bone marrow examination reveals decreased and/or abnormal megakaryocytes, with normal myeloid and erythroid precursors. Congenital skeletal deformities

Distal radius fractures are one of the most prevalent fracture types. Dorsal tilt of the articular surface of the distal radius as assessed on the lateral radiograph is often used in determining the correct treatment method. This report seeks to highlight the importance of correct forearm positioning when obtaining distal radius radiographs, and the effects of pronation and supination on dorsal tilt measurements of the radius. It presents a case of a 35-year-old male with a malaligned left-sided distal radius fracture sustained during a sports-related fall.

PURPOSE: There is a paucity of data regarding recommendations on when to correct for distal radius malunions and if the initial severity of the radiographic outcomes is correlated with the ability to correct to baseline. We evaluated the effects of distal radius corrective osteotomy on preoperative carpal joint malalignment resulting from distal radius malunions, correlated injury severity and osteotomy timing to radiographic outcomes, and developed a straightforward classification system for predicting radiocarpal and midcarpal maladaptive patterns.
METHODS: A retrospective review included 2

INTRODUCTION: The modified Henry approach is predominantly used in the treatment of distal radius fractures. Over the years, it has undergone numerous modifications, and its original interpretation varies significantly. This summary also discusses other volar approaches to the distal radius. The original description of the approach is attributed to Arnold Kirkpatrick Henry, who, in his three publications, mentions the interval between the radial artery and the flexor carpi radialis muscle. Currently, many controversies are being debated, including extended approaches, techniques and options fo

The diffusion properties and hydrodynamic radius, Rh, of macromolecules are important for theoretical studies and practical application. Moreover, comparison of Rh values obtained from simulation and experimental data is used to check the correctness of simulation results. Here, we study the translation mobility of poly(butylcarbosilane) dendrimers in chloroform solution using molecular dynamics simulations and consider simulation details that may influence the accuracy of the result. Different methods to estimate Rh for a dendrimer are discussed with comparison to our experimental data. It wa

Fractures of the radius and ulna are the most common fractures of the upper extremity, with distal fractures occurring more often than proximal fractures. A fall onto an outstretched hand is the most common mechanism of injury for fractures of the radius and ulna. Evaluation with radiography or ultrasonography usually can confirm the diagnosis. If initial imaging findings are negative and suspicion of fracture remains, splinting and repeat radiography in seven to 14 days should be performed. Incomplete compression fractures without cortical disruption, called buckle (torus) fractures, are comm

Although the technical details of distal radius fracture fixation in athletes are largely similar to the general population, the issues surrounding the injury, desire to return to sport, and rehabilitation require specialized attention. Athletes are generally healthy, with a drive to recover and must balance the risk of long-term consequences of returning to play too early with the potential loss of scholarship, salary, or opportunities for advancement. Outcomes after nonoperative and operative treatment of distal radius fractures are generally excellent in athletes and return to the same leve
