Reproductive history of a healthy woman with mosaic duplication of chromosome 4p.

OBJECTIVES: Mosaic autosomal duplications are rare and often result in mental retardation and congenital anomalies. Phenotype is not predictable depending on the chromosomal imbalance involved and the percentage and tissues distribution of unbalanced cells. We report on a young woman carrying a mosaic duplication of chromosome 4p, evaluated because of three abortions due to IUGR and fetal malformation. METHODS: Mosaic dup(4p) was detected by standard and molecular cytogenetics. RESULTS: Unbalanced cells accounted for about 20 to 30% of nuclei in four examined tissues and did not cause any ob

The role of maternal reproductive history in the aetiology of neural tube defects.

The contribution of environmental factors to the aetiology of neural tube defects (NTD) has been stressed over recent years and many different risk factors have been proposed. We evaluated the reproductive history of 113 NTD cases to investigate the possible role of maternal age, gestational age, sex, parity and previous pregnancy. Our results show that parity and previous spontaneous abortion can be considered as risk factors for NTD and that an accurate evaluation of reproductive history can be useful for genetic counselling. The known benefits of periconceptional intervention in reducing th

Influence of reproductive history on age at diagnosis of breast cancer and prognosis.

The effect on age at breast cancer diagnosis of age at menarche, age at first baby, parity and age at menopause has been determined for 739 unselected patients diagnosed between 1975 and 1980 as having operable breast cancer. Age at diagnosis was significantly and positively associated with ages at menarche, first baby and menopause. The average number of children significantly declined with increasing age at diagnosis. This was largely due to a change in the proportion of patients who were nulliparous (15% in women aged 41-50 years compared to about 30% in those over 60 years). A group of 1,9

Associations of reproductive and breastfeeding history with anti-Müllerian hormone concentration among African-American women of reproductive age.

RESEARCH QUESTION: Are gravidity, parity and breastfeeding history associated with anti-Müllerian hormone concentration among African-American women of reproductive age? DESIGN: This study included baseline data from the Study of the Environment, Lifestyle and Fibroids, a 5-year longitudinal study of African-American women. Within this community cohort, data from 1392 women aged 25-35 years were analysed. The primary outcome was serum anti-Müllerian hormone concentration measured using the Ansh Labs picoAMH assay, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Multivariable linear regression models we

[Reproductive risk factors and sexual history associated with cervical cancer in Mexico].

Uterine cervical cancer is one of the principal public health problems in Mexico. The national mortality rate for cervical cancer in 1991 is estimated at 9.5 per 100,000 women, representing 4,194 deaths. In the period from August 1990 to December 1992, a case-control study was carried out that included 630 cases of histologically confirmed cervical cancer in eight Mexico City hospitals (two for people with no social security cover, four of the social security system and two private). As controls, 1,005 women were chosen from a random sampling of houses in the Mexico City metropolitan area. The

Combined effect of family history and reproductive factors on breast cancer risk.

This study evaluated the combined effect of a family history of breast cancer and each of three reproductive factors on breast cancer risk in the sisters of 404 breast cancer patients. The patients had a family history of breast cancer in a sister and mother or in two sisters. Risks were highest in sisters who had menarche at an early age or who first gave birth at a late age whether the patient had unilateral or bilateral disease, and with low parity only when the patient had bilateral disease. The bilateral group may have included a higher fraction of hereditary forms of breast cancer than t

Association between reproductive history, breast cancer subtype, and survival in premenopausal women.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Reproductive history influences breast cancer risk. We analysed its association with tumour subtype and survival in premenopausal women. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Retrospective, observational study of premenopausal women with stage I-III breast carcinoma in the last 20 years. Review of reproductive history, clinical data, and treatments in health records. RESULTS: In 661 premenopausal women (32.40% of 1377 total cases), median age was 47 years (19-53), menarche 12 (7-17), first delivery 28 (16-41) and number of deliveries 2 (0-9). One hundred and eleven (18.20%) were nu

Reproductive history of the Danish multiple sclerosis population: A register-based study.

BACKGROUND: A diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) may impact the choice of parenthood. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the number of live births, abortions and ectopic pregnancies among persons with MS. METHODS: From the Danish Multiple Sclerosis Registry, we extracted data from all persons diagnosed with MS from 1960 to 1996 and matched each MS person with four reference persons. We used a negative binomial regression model for the live births and Poisson regression model for abortions and ectopic pregnancies. The total fertility rate (TFR) during 1960-2016 and the annual number of live births i

Reproductive history and cutaneous malignant melanoma: a comparison between women and men.

To evaluate whether previously observed associations between parity and cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) risk in women reflected a biologic mechanism or resulted from uncontrolled confounding by lifestyle factors associated with parity (e.g., patterns of sun exposure), the authors investigated the effect of reproductive history (parenthood) on CMM risk in both women and men. Using information from Danish national registers (1968-2003), the authors established a population-based cohort of more than 3,500,000 persons with information on parenthood and CMM. Relative risks were estimated using P

Morphometric studies of the bovine uterus: microscopic lesions and retrospective reproductive history.

A survey of reproductive tracts from nonpregnant cows at an abattoir was conducted. Reproductive tracts from 98 cows were studied microscopically and evaluated with a grading system to determine the severity of pathologic changes. Inflammatory reaction (type and distribution), fibrosis, gland morphology, and appearance were measured, quantified, and scored (1 to 4). Category 1 endometrium (normal) was found in 18 cows, category 2 in 23, category 3 in 34, and category 4 in 23. The category of endometrium was then compared with the retrospective reproductive status, and it was found that reprodu

Reproduction history and health-promoting behaviors are associated with successful aging and survival.

The postmenopausal decrease in estrogen production contributes to a significant increase in the risk of age-related diseases. There is an identified gap in the field regarding the effectiveness of targeted interventions for specific groups of women at increased risk, and whether these interventions can support successful aging and reduce mortality. Data regarding 2239 Caucasian female participants of the PolSenior study aged 65 and over were analyzed. Based on strict criteria, participants were divided into successfully aging (SA) and not successfully aging (UA), and the differences in reprodu

Choosing the best apple: counselling leaflets and technologies of communication in the history of reproduction.

Historians have shown how the establishment of human genetic counselling in West Germany was characterised by several sociohistorical factors, in particular the impact of the legacies of Nazi biopolitics. These accounts have reconstructed continuities on an intellectual level which delayed a turn towards non-directive approaches, emphasising individual (emotional) well-being and voluntariness, and instead have prolonged a discourse that defined disability as an economic and social burden. However, while the distinct legacies of eugenics and racial hygienics are well researched, other factors t

Reproductive history and pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality in a cohort of postmenopausal women.

There is inconsistent evidence about the effect of reproductive history on women's risk of pancreatic cancer. In the Million Women Study, a prospective cohort of middle-aged women in the United Kingdom, we examined associations between reproductive history and pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality, controlling for age, socioeconomic status, geographic region, body mass index, smoking, and history of diabetes. During 7.1 million person-years of follow-up in 995,192 postmenopausal women, there were 1,182 incident pancreatic cancers. Pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality did not vary sign

Reproductive outcomes of women with a previous history of Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancies.

BACKGROUND: Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy is associated with a number of significant complications. In this study, we report on subsequent reproductive outcomes in a group of women following successful treatment of their scar pregnancies. METHODS: The study included those women who received treatment for their Caesarean scar pregnancies between April 1999 and October 2005. Their ability to conceive, the time it took to become pregnant and outcomes of subsequent pregnancies were all recorded. RESULTS: 40 women with Caesarean scar pregnancies were managed in our unit. The uterus was conserv

Menstrual and reproductive factors and breast cancer in women with family history of the disease.

The relationship between socio-economic indicators, body mass, reproductive and menstrual factors and risk of "familial" breast cancer has been analyzed using data from a large case-control study of breast cancer conducted in Italy. A total of 3,037 breast-cancer patients aged 75 years or less admitted to a network of hospitals in the Greater Milan area were interviewed. Controls were 2,569 women aged 75 or less, admitted for acute conditions to the same network of hospitals where cases had been identified. Women were not included as controls if they had been admitted for gynecological, hormon

Assisted reproductive technology use and outcomes among women with a history of cancer.

STUDY QUESTION: How do the assisted reproductive technology (ART) outcomes of women presenting for ART after cancer diagnosis compare to women without cancer? SUMMARY ANSWER: The likelihood of a live birth after ART among women with prior cancer using autologous oocytes is reduced and varies by cancer diagnosis but is similar to women without cancer when donor oocytes are used. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Premenopausal patients faced with a cancer diagnosis frequently present for fertility preservation. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION: Population-based cohort study of women treated with ART in NY,
