The United States is releasing more individuals from prisons than ever before. However, returning citizens face numerous challenges transitioning back into community life and many communities remain ill-equipped in successfully supporting them. This study focuses on transportation as in integral component to the success of returning citizens. Rapid and rigorous qualitative data analysis (RADaR technique) is applied to interviews (n = 15) with individuals having returned to their community about the impact of transportation on their reentry. Analysis resulted in three primary themes; interviewe

INTRODUCTION: Research into work reintegration following cardiovascular disease onset is limited in its clinical and individual focus. There is no research examining worker experience in context during the return to work process.
METHODS: Qualitative case study method informed by applied ethnography. Worker experience was assessed through longitudinal in-depth interviews with 12 workers returning to work following disabling cardiac illness. Workplace context (Canadian auto manufacturing plant) was assessed through site visits and meetings with stakeholders including occupational health person

There is an increased pressure to return results from research studies. In Iceland, deCODE Genetics has emphasised the importance of returning results to research participants, particularly the founder pathogenic BRCA2 variant; NM_000059.3:c.771_775del. To do so, they opened the website www.arfgerd.is . Individuals who received positive results via the website were offered genetic counselling (GC) at Landspitali in Reykjavik. At the end of May 2019, over 46.000 (19% of adults of Icelandic origin) had registered at the website and 352 (0.77%) received text message informing them about their pos

INTRODUCTION: There are established protocols for staged return to physical activity in sport and military settings following concussion. Currently, there is no evidence-based staged return to shooting protocol in use by the U.S. military despite the unique challenges and stresses shooting places on the vestibular-ocular and cognitive systems often disrupted by a concussion. The primary purpose of this scoping review was to summarize available evidence and current practices on return to shooting post-concussion, with the goal of optimizing an evidence-based return to shooting protocol for mili

INTRODUCTION: Returning research results that indicate risk of Alzheimer disease (AD) dementia-a disease for which no meaningful treatments or cure exist-to cognitively normal participants is controversial. AD is thought to begin many years before clinical signs and symptoms begin. During this time, individuals are cognitively normal but have biomarkers that indicate pathophysiological changes in the brain. With this study, we aim to evaluate the impact of returning research results on cognitively normal participants recruited from a longitudinal observational cohort on ageing at the Knight Al

BACKGROUND: Definitive external fixation is commonly used in the management of complex lower limb fractures. Holistic pre- and post-operative rehabilitation is considered essential; however, rehabilitation practices vary considerably, with limited supporting evidence and no validated outcome measures for this population.
AIM: To describe rehabilitation provision for adults with lower limb injuries managed with definitive external fixation at a single NHS Trust, with secondary evaluation of post-operative mobility outcomes, patient demographics, and exploratory factors associated with return t

OBJECTIVE: Outcome states, such as remission and recovery, include specific duration criteria for which individuals must be asymptomatic. Ideally, duration criteria provide predictive validity to outcome states by reducing symptom-return risk. However, available research is insufficient for deriving specific recommendations for remission or recovery duration criteria for eating disorders.
METHOD: We intensively modeled the relation between duration criteria length and rates of remission, recovery, and subsequent symptom return in longitudinal data from a treatment-seeking sample of women with

BACKGROUND: Open fractures are complex injuries with high complication rates and infection risks, often resulting in prolonged recovery and limited return to physical activities. Despite this, data on return to sport (RTS) or return to military duty (RTD) are limited. This study evaluates RTS or RTD in individuals with lower extremity open fractures, hypothesizing extended recovery times and limited return rates, particularly for amateur athletes and military personnel compared with professional athletes.
METHODS: A systematic review of studies from 1990 to 2024 was conducted using Embase, Ov

This article examines ethical issues associated with the return of AD neuroimaging results to cognitively symptomatic individuals. Following a review of research on patient and study partner reactions to learning the results of biomarker testing for AD, we examine ethical issues that will be of increasing significance as the field transitions to an era wherein disease-modifying treatments for AD become available. We first review the ethical justification for returning AD biomarker results to individuals who desire them. We then address a more novel question: whether, and to what extent, clinic

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common reportable sexually transmitted infection in the United States, with >60% of reported cases occurring in individuals aged 15 to 24 years. US practice guidelines recommend directly observed therapy (DOT) for the treatment of chlamydia in adolescents, but almost no research has been done to evaluate whether DOT results in improved outcomes.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of adolescents who sought care at 1 of 3 clinics within a large academic pediatric health system for a chlamydia infection. The study outcome was return f

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review scopes existing research examining substance use-related services for women in carceral settings. The paper focuses on gender-specific care and programs not specifically tailored for women that analyze results by gender. The paper also suggests recommendations for future research based on identified gaps in the literature. RECENT FINDINGS: Existing literature indicates that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of women in correctional settings over the past four decades. Compared to women in the general population, those in correctional settings have

Background: Individuals diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) TB may struggle to return to work after they have completed a rehabilitation program. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB) has been seen as a condition that is resistant to treatment, hence causing individuals to be economically in-active for considerable periods of time. Objective: The aim of the current study was to explore the views of individuals living with MDRTB, individuals with TB, and health professionals treating individuals with TB and MDRTB about the development of a vocational rehabilitation

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease is amongst the top three leading causes of mortality in South Africa and the world. The effects of cardiovascular disease can be seen in limitations of function within all spheres of life, including work function. Cardiac rehabilitation programs have been documented to improve functional abilities, however further research is required with regard to activity limitation, participation restrictions, facilitators, and barriers of return to work, after cardiac rehabilitation.
OBJECTIVE: This qualitative study aimed to determine and explore the barriers and enabl

BACKGROUND: Distal radius fracture (DRF) is the most common of fractures, accounting for 18% of all fractures. The ability to return to work is an important outcome for both society and the individual, but there is a large variation among patients in how much time off work is required. The choice of treatment is likely an important factor.
METHODS: This study was a secondary analysis of an earlier published randomised clinical trial comparing volar locking plate fixation with combined dorsal and volar plate fixation of AO type C DRF. In the present study, we examined the the duration of sick
