INTRODUCTION: The basic idea of a root canal treatment is to alleviate the pain and heal the infection within the infected tooth, which can be resolved in a single visit or multiple visits in root canal therapy. Therefore, in this article, an in vivo comparison of single visits and multiple visits using different rotation and speed for two Protaper universal design file systems is done on the basis of time taken and incidence of pain.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred single-rooted premolars with irreversible symptomatic pulpitis were assigned to two groups of 50 patients each using the odd-

The main objective of endodontic therapy is complete obturation of the root canal system after it has been adequately prepared and sterilised. A wide variety of root canal sealers are available for obturation of the root canal system. A number of different invitro methods have been used to evaluate the sealing ability of endodontic filling materials. By combining one or two tests it may be possible to obtain information about sealing ability of the test material. Therefore, the present invitro study compared the sealing ability of three different root canal sealers, namely Sealapex, AH-26 and

The present study was conducted to determine the influence of 2 intracanal medicaments (calcium hydroxide, chlorhexidine gel 2%) when used either alone or combined on the short- and long-term sealing ability of permanent root canal fillings. Ninety human upper central incisors were divided into 4 experimental groups (n=20). All root canals were instrumented in a step-back motion and then treated as follows: group I, root canal dressing with calcium hydroxide for 2 weeks and then obturation with laterally compacted gutta-percha and AH26 sealer; group II, chlorhexidine gel 2% for 2 weeks and obt

Root canal treatment techniques probably develop and change more frequently than any other area of dental practice and it can be hard for the busy general dental practitioner to keep up to date. The aim of this series of five papers is to give a thorough review of current teaching and practice. This will encompass the rationale of root canal treatment, guidance on the latest technical procedures for preparation and obturation of the entire root canal system, and consideration of how these principles may contribute to successful treatment. The series will address the following issues: diagnosis

Combined external and internal root resorption (ERR/IRR) is a rare endodontic disease that leads to alteration of the root canal anatomy. This report describes the management of an endodontically failed molar that was severely affected by ERR/IRR. Radiographic examination demonstrated inadequate obturation of the root canals associated with ERR/IRR and a large periradicular lesion. During nonsurgical endodontic retreatment, the root canals were subjected to conventional chemomechanical debridement. In the same session, the entire distal root canal was obturated using a calcium-enriched mixture

BACKGROUND: The main purpose of obturation is to achieve a complete three-dimensional sealing of the pulp space to create a tight seal and prevent bacterial movement and its toxins to the periapical tissues. Different approaches and sealants have been developed due to the root canal system's intricacy for ensuring tight adherence. The root canal sealants need to establish a bond between the material and root dentine in order to prevent leakage. Even though the biocompatibility and sealing abilities of the materials are prioritized in modern endodontics, some sealers incorporate therapeutic or

Management of immature teeth with open apices and severely divergent blunderbuss canals presents challenges in achieving predictable obturation and apical sealing. This case report describes a customized BioRoot inlay technique for the management of a previously treated immature maxillary central incisor with complex root canal anatomy. A 52-year-old female presented with discoloration of the maxillary left central incisor. The tooth had sustained traumatic injury during adolescence, resulting in pulpal necrosis and arrested root development with an incompletely formed apex. Root canal treatme

The principle of obturation of the root canal space is generally accepted. This belief has dominated the field of endodontics despite the absence of credible scientific evidence. Little information is available on the possible relationships between endodontic success and obturation of the root canal system. The present study compares the healing of instrumented and obturated versus instrumented and nonobturated root canal systems with apical periodontitis. Fifty-six root canals in 28 third and fourth bilateral lower premolar teeth with completely formed apices in seven mixed German Shepherd do

With the advent of bioceramic sealers, sealers have become a more important filling material for endodontic treatment. When a solid sealer, rather than an elastic gutta-percha, occupies a significant portion of the root canal, it is unclear whether the tooth structure will be strengthened to withstand stress or whether the increased stiffness will transmit the load directly to the entire root, potentially causing root fracture. This study compared the fracture resistance and fracture patterns of roots filled with various root canal sealers, including bioceramic sealers, and each corresponding

BACKGROUND Internal root resorption (IRR) is a rare dental condition characterized by the progressive resorption of dentin within the root canal, often resulting from infection, trauma, or orthodontic treatment. When IRR progresses to perforation, it creates a communication pathway with periodontal tissues, necessitating effective endodontic therapy and perforation repair. Bioceramic sealers, known for their biocompatibility and flowability, have emerged as a promising alternative to traditional materials for filling and sealing the root canal system. Although commonly used in conventional roo

The purpose of this study was to investigate long-term pH changes in cavities prepared in root surface dentin of extracted teeth after obturation of the root canal with gutta-percha and a variety of sealers containing calcium hydroxide. After cleaning and shaping, root canals in 50 recently extracted, human single-rooted teeth were divided into five groups. Each of four groups was obturated with gutta-percha and either Sealapex, Sealer 26, Apexit, or CRCS, all of which contain calcium hydroxide. The remaining group served as the control and was not obturated with gutta-percha or sealer. Caviti
