The Potential Role of Nonclinical Patient Support Service Staff in Reducing Emergency Department Visits and Hospitalizations of Urban and Rural Patients of Health Centers Funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration.

PURPOSE: Payers such as Medicaid are concerned about high rates of potentially avoidable acute care utilization by beneficiaries called high-need, high-cost (HNHC) and frequently seen by Health Resources and Services Administration-funded health centers. Yet, health center HNHC patients have comparatively lower acute care utilization than patients of other primary care providers, possibly due to better access to nonclinical staff who provide patient support services, such as care coordination and self-management education. Furthermore, rural areas face provider shortages that may impact staffi

Barriers to oral health service access for rural and remote Australian children: a mixed-methods systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Children living in rural and remote communities experience challenges in dental care access. While several studies have reported barriers contributing to inequalities in services utilisation, a synthesis of evidence is lacking for those underserved children. In this review we explore the barriers and challenges to accessing oral health services among children and families living in rural and remote Australia. METHODS: This review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for mixed-methods systematic review. We structured our review question using the PICO framework (popul

METHODS: Five gender-stratified focus group discussions with a total of 24 participants, and nine follow-up interviews were conduc

Implementation of telehealth primary health care services in a rural Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Organisation during the COVID-19 pandemic: a mixed-methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Globally, primary care organisations responded rapidly to COVID-19 physical distancing requirements through the adoption of telehealth to maintain the delivery of health care to communities. In Australia, temporary Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) telehealth items were introduced in March 2020 to enable the provision of telehealth services in the primary care setting. These changes included funding for two modes of telehealth delivery: videoconferencing and telephone consultations. As primary care organisations, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) rapidl

Exploring People's Candidacy for Mobile Health-Supported HIV Testing and Care Services in Rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: The use of mobile communication technologies (mHealth: mobile health) in chronic disease management has grown significantly over the years. mHealth interventions have the potential to decentralize access to health care and make it convenient, particularly in resource-constrained settings. It is against this backdrop that we aimed to codevelop (with potential users) a new generation of mobile phone-connected HIV diagnostic tests and Web-based clinical care pathways needed for optimal delivery of decentralized HIV testing, prevention, and care in low- and middle-income countries.
