Identification and expression analysis of short internodes related sequence (SRS) gene families in litchi and longan, with functional characterization of LcSRS5 and DlSRS4 in dwarfing regulation.

Dwarfism is a significant and desirable trait in the cultivation of horticultural crops. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying dwarfism in perennial fruit trees remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the role of SRS genes in regulating plant height in Sapindaceae fruit trees, specifically litchi and longan. A total of five litchi SHORT INTERNODES (SHI)-related sequence genes (LcSRS) and four longan DlSRS genes were identified. Expression profile analysis in different tissues demonstrated that LcSRS1-LcSRS5 and DlSRS4 genes exhibited distinct expression patterns, with

Identification of a novel and potent inhibitor of phospholipase A(2) in a medicinal plant: crystal structure at 1.93Å and Surface Plasmon Resonance analysis of phospholipase A(2) complexed with berberine.

Crystal of Russell Viper venom phospholipase A(2) complexed with an isoquinoline alkaloid, berberine from a herbaceous plant Cardiospermum halicacabum, was prepared and its structure was solved by X-ray crystallography. The crystal diffracted up to 1.93Å and the structure solution clearly located the position of berberine in the active site of the enzyme. Two hydrogen bonds, one direct and the other water mediated, were formed between berberine and the enzyme. Gly 30 and His 48 made these two hydrogen bonds. Additionally, the hydrophobic surface of berberine made a number of hydrophobic contac

Extraction of methylxanthines from guaraná seeds, maté leaves, and cocoa beans using supercritical carbon dioxide and ethanol.

New experimental data on the extraction of caffeine from guaraná seeds and maté tea leaves, and theobromine from cocoa beans, with supercritical CO2 were obtained using a high-pressure extraction apparatus. The effect of the addition of ethanol to carbon dioxide on the extraction efficiency was also investigated. Caffeine extraction yields of 98% of the initial caffeine content in both wet ground guaraná seeds and maté tea leaves were obtained. Extractions of caffeine from guaraná seeds and maté tea leaves also exhibited a retrograde behavior for the two temperatures considered in this work. I

Dlo-miR164a-DlNAC100 module regulates floral bud induction by activating DlCOL4 expression in longan.

Longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) is an economically significant subtropical crop of the Sapindaceae family. Floral bud induction is a critical process that directly determines fruit yield and quality in longan cultivation. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying floral bud induction remain largely unclear. Here, through integrating miRNAome, degradome, and transcriptome analyses, we identified 109 known and 320 novel miRNAs along with their 585 targets during longan floral bud induction. The dlo-miR164a-DlNAC100 module was identified as a key regulator during the physiological differentia
