Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a distinct type of soft tissue sarcoma holding a specific ASPL-TFE3 fusion transcript. Curative therapy is based on surgical removal, whereas lately, antiangiogenic targeted therapy regimens have proven effective. In ASPS, analysis of small series additionally display mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) pathway activity, thus making mTOR a possible additive target in ASPS, because it is in other tumor entities. Therefore, we systematically evaluated mTOR pathway activity in a large series of ASPS in comparison with soft tissue sarcomas of other differentia

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare, high-grade, epithelial-like sarcoma that shows characteristic histopathologic findings. Although a chromosomal anomaly that seems specific has been recently described, its diagnosis is based on histologic and ultrastructural features. The tumor shows no specific immunohistologic findings. Cytologic features of three cases of ASPS are presented. Preoperative fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of the primary soft tissue tumor was performed in two cases. In another two, mediastinal and pulmonary and subcutaneous metastatic lesions were aspirated. In all case

INTRODUCTION: Alveolar soft-part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare malignant sarcoma with only a few cases reported in the sinus and head and neck region. It shows strong female predominance. Hormone-dependent recurrence was never reported.
CASE REPORT: A 35 year-old woman presented nasal cavity ASPS during her first pregnancy, middle-ear ASPS during the second, and a third ASPS in the sinus outside of any peripartum period, with unfavorable progression and metastasis, terminating in death.
DISCUSSION: Pathology analysis of the tumors showed positive immunolabeling for progesterone receptors in the t

BACKGROUND: Alveolar soft-part sarcoma (ASPS) is an uncommon malignancy that may present in a manner similar to benign vascular tumors.
METHODS: A 6-year-old boy with autism spectrum disorder was referred to the Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital vascular anomalies clinic for the evaluation of a tongue mass.
RESULTS: Prior to the presentation, at 5 years of age, neck computed tomography (CT) was performed. This showed a well circumscribed, enhancing mass at the anterior aspect of the tongue. The radiologic impression was that this lesion was most likely a hemangioma. Two years later, the

Sarcoma metastatic to the brain is uncommon and rarely occurs as the initial manifestation of tumor. Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare but well-studied subtype of sarcoma. A 39-year-old man presented with seizures due to a left temporal meningeal-enhancing lesion with striking brain edema on MRI. The patient underwent neurosurgical resection for suspected meningioma. Histology showed large tumor cells clustering and forming small nests, in places with pseudoalveolar pattern. Diastase-resistant periodic acid-Schiff revealed very rare granular and rod-like cytoplasmic inclusions. Immun

Alveolar soft-part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare tumor. Cure is based solely on radical surgery. The general prognosis is poor. The tongue is an unusual site in adults, but not in children. Tumor removal can cause a severe impact on quality of life, even if reconstruction is possible. ASPS is a highly vascularized tumor and antiangiogenic therapy may have a role. We describe the use of the antiangiogenic combination bevacizumab and celecoxib in the preoperative management of a patient with an ASPS of the tongue.

BACKGROUND: Sarcomas are a type of malignant tumors that arise from connective tissue. They are most of the time found in extremities
CASE PRESENTATION: We are presenting a case of adult male patient, who was found to have huge abdominal mass and multiple gastric and duodenal polyps. Pathological diagnosis for all lesions was Alveolar soft part sarcoma. Although he complained from metastasis to both lungs and right atrium, all these deposits regressed spontaneously. Patient stated that he used some herbs (Teucrium polium, Cat Thyme) prescribed for him. No chemotherapy or radiotherapy was give

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare mesenchymal malignancy typically found in the extremities or chest of young adults. We present a case of an alveolar soft part sarcoma arising in the endocervix of a 38-year-old premenopausal woman. This cancer was treated by extrafascial hysterectomy. No evidence of metastatic disease was found after extensive surgical staging. Since treatment, she has since remained disease-free for more than 5 years without additional therapy. This is the second case of ASPS arising in the endocervix of which we are aware. Our observations suggest simple hysterect

PURPOSE: A case of alveolar soft part sarcoma of the arm with metastatic pulmonary miliaria is reported in a 12-year-old girl.
RESULTS: Although the size of the metastases increased greatly and progressively for 9 years with no improvement under chemotherapy, the patient's general condition remained good.
CONCLUSIONS: The course in pediatric oncology of this rare mesenchymatous tumor is very unusual; the histologic pattern is characteristic but the histogenesis remains unclear. The treatment of choice is tumoral excision. Other therapies involving secondary deposits are far from satisfactory

Sarcoma metastatic to the brain is uncommon and rarely occurs as the initial manifestation of tumor. Alveolar soft-part sarcoma, a rare but well studied subtype of a soft tissue sarcoma with a propensity for central nervous system invasion, presenting with brain metastases, has been reported only once previously. We report the case of a 28-year-old man who presented with partial seizures and who was found to have a homogeneously enhancing frontal lesion on a broad dural base disclosed by computed tomography. preoperatively, the lesion was thought to be a meningioma. The tumor was excised easil

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) accounts for less than 1% of all sarcomas. More frequently encountered within the lower limbs, the authors present a 24-year-old male with ASPS presenting as an asymptomatic swelling of the lateral tongue. At 12 months post wide local excision of the lesion, the patient remains well with no evidence of local or regional recurrence. Histological and immunohistochemical features are diagnostic of ASPS. Whilst rare, head and neck surgeons should be aware of ASPS as a potential cause of slow growing lesions, as early surgical resection is vital in view of the prop

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare type of soft tissue sarcoma that typically affects adolescents and young adults, though it can occur at any age. We report a case of ASPS of the tongue, which is extremely rare at this location. The patient presented with a polypoidal lesion on the tongue, a biopsy of which showed granular and alveolar morphology. A definitive diagnosis was not rendered due to limited tissue. The case was discussed with the treating surgeon, and excision was recommended with clear margins. Excision of the lesion showed typical ASPS. A TFE-3 immunohistochemical stain

Alveolar soft-part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare malignant soft tissue tumor of uncertain cellular origin. We reported the case of a 21-year-old man with ASPS presenting itself as a markedly vascular tumor of the prostate. Immunohistochemistry showed positive nuclear staining for TFE3, positive cytoplasm staining for MyoD1 and neuron-specific enolase, and negative for S100, CK, synaptophysin, chromogranin A, myogenin and PSA. A dual-color, break-apart fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay identified the presence of a TFE3 gene fusion in the tumor cells. RT-PCR was performed to confirm the

BACKGROUND: Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma is a rare malignant tumor of uncertain histogenesis, representing 0.5-1% of all soft tissue tumors. It occurs predominantly in head and neck regions, especially the orbit and the tongue, in infants, causing no specific symptoms for an extended period of time.
CASE: A four year old girl was brought to consultation because of persistent swelling of her left upper and lower eyelid for the past six months. A 4 mm proptosis was noted on her left eye with significant upwards displacement of the globe. A firm, not pulsating and non tender mass was palpated, and

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the imaging features of alveolar soft-part sarcomas (ASPS) on pre-treatment MRI in order to identify relevant criteria to distinguish ASPS from other soft-tissue tumors.
METHODS: A series of 25 patients (mean age, 18.5 years old) with histologically proven ASPS from five French comprehensive cancer centers was compared to a control cohort of 292 patients with various histologically proven benign and malignant soft-tissue tumors representative of the 10-year long activity of one center. All had a baseline MRI with contrast-agent administration. Two radiologists indep

Alveolar soft part sarcoma(ASPS)is a rare malignant tumor whose origin is unidentified, arising from deep soft tissue and affecting adolescents and young adults. ASPS is characterized by its abundant vascular network forming alveolar structures, and demonstrates frequent hematogenous metastasis. An ASPSCR1-TFE3 fusion gene derived from t(X;17)chromosome translocation is detected as a disease gene in all cases, and the ASPSCR1-TFE3 protein causes abnormal transcriptional regulation. We generated a mouse model for ASPS by introducing ASPSCR1-TFE3 into mouse embryonic mesenchymal cells. In the mo

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) represent 0.5% of sarcomas, defining a rarest among rare malignancies. It affects young adults, displaying slow-growing mass of the thigh, head and neck, and trunk. Although quite indolent, a majority of cases displays an advanced disease with lung bone or central nervous system metastasis. Complete surgery is the cornerstone of localized ASPS, and advanced diseases poorly respond to chemotherapy. Here discuss recent progress in molecular characterization of ASPS and future prospects of therapeutic approaches.
RECENT FINDINGS: ASPS is chara
