[Schnitzler syndrome--report on a fourteen-year course of the disease and an overview of information on the disease].

Schnitzler syndrome is a rare disease characterised by chronic urticaria and the presence of monoclonal IgM immunoglobulin, and by other symptoms. We report ourexperience with 14-year treatment of a patient. The first medical examination in our workplace was at the beginning of 1995 and the patient was diagnosed with the disease in 1996 (at the age of 52). Antihistaminics, the first medication used to relieve the symptoms of urticaria, had no subjective or objective effect. After the detection of osteolytic-osteosclerotic changes in the pelvic region, in areas with intense pain, we started tre

A Chinese case series of Schnitzler syndrome and complete remission in one tocilizumab-treated patient.

Schnitzler syndrome (SchS) is a rare acquired systemic autoinflammatory disease. The major clinical features of SchS are urticarial rash and monoclonal gammopathy, accompanied by fever, joint pain, and lymphadenopathy. There were few reports about SchS in Chinese population. Herein, we describe two patients with SchS in China and conducted a systematic literature review about SchS. Two Chinese Han patients were diagnosed as SchS in our department from 2017 to 2019. Their phenotype and genotype were carefully documented and studied. We also conducted a systematic literature review about SchS. T

A rare cause of a common symptom, Anakinra is effective in the urticaria of Schnitzler Syndrome: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Schnitzler Syndrome is an uncommon, inflammatory condition that presents with a constellation of chronic unremitting urticaria, fever, bone pain, arthralgia or arthritis, and a monoclonal IgM gammopathy. There is usually neutrophilia and raised inflammatory markers. Delayed diagnosis is common and treatment often unsuccessful. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 43-year-old caucasian man who presented with urticaria unresponsive to conventional therapy. There was considerable delay in recognition of this as Schnitzler Syndrome, and symptoms were unresponsive to convention

Anakinra long-term efficacy and safety in the management of Schnitzler's syndrome and latent tuberculosis infection.

UNLABELLED: The current research addresses dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic's disruption to goal pursuit. Specifically, we examined the effects of disengaging from frozen goals (goals for which progress had been disrupted due to COVID-19). In May 2021, we asked participants (N = 226) what percentage of their goals were COVID-frozen goals and asked them to report their engagement in one such goal (vs. an active goal): the degree to which they think about the goal, ruminate about the goal, and are committed to the goal. Participants also reported on two facets of their recent well-being: psycho

The co-occurrence of SAT, hypophysitis, and Schnitzler syndrome after COVID-19 vaccination: the first described case.

Subacute thyroiditis (also known as granulomatous thyroiditis, giant cell thyroiditis, de Quervain's disease, or SAT) is an inflammatory disease of the thyroid gland, usually spontaneously remitting, that lasts for weeks to months. However, recurrent forms sometimes occur which may have a genetic basis. In our paper, we have focused on the pathogenetics, symptoms, and treatment of SAT. We have described the 17-month disease course of a woman with persistent recurrent steroid-resistant SAT. SAT was well established and the patient's symptoms were not only recurrent neck pain with fever, but als

SARS-CoV2-induced Schnitzler syndrome, inflammatory flare and successful treatment by anakinra during pregnancy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) inhibitors increase susceptibility to granulomatous infections, including both Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and nontuberculous mycobacteria. We describe a complex case of sequential disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) and central nervous system MTB infection in a patient treated with adalimumab, complicated by hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). CASE REPORT: A 65-year-old man on long-term adalimumab for psoriasis presented with prolonged fever, hepatosplenomegaly, cytopenia and elevated inflammatory markers. Bone marrow

Chronic urticaria, arthralgia, raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate and IgG paraproteinaemia: a variant of Schnitzler's syndrome?

Schnitzler's syndrome is a distinct disease entity characterized by the association of chronic urticaria, intermittent fever, arthralgia, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and IgM macroglobulinaemia. We report a patient with the same symptoms, but a monoclonal IgG instead of IgM gammopathy. Histological examination of the urticarial lesions showed signs of mild leucocytoclastic vasculitis. Except for the different class of the monoclonal immunoglobulin, the clinical symptoms, laboratory findings and histology in this patient were identical with those in classical Schnitzler's syndrome. Schnitzler's Syndrome-Diagnostic Experience, Approaches to Therapy, and Patient Management according to a Multicenter Russian Cohort.

The objectives of the study were to present the experience of diagnosis, management, and therapy with IL-1 inhibitors in patients with Schnitzler's syndrome (SchS) according to a multicenter Russian cohort. An observational retrospective study for a 10-year period (2012-2022) involved 17 patients with SchS who were admitted to the hospital or were observed on an outpatient basis (eight women and nine men). The diagnosis of all of them corresponded to the Strasbourg diagnostic criteria. The age of patients ranged from 25 to 81 years (Me 53[46; 56]). The age at the time of the onset of the disea

Schnitzler's syndrome: A female elderly case presenting intractable non-pruritic febrile urticarial rush.

Schnitzler's syndrome is an acquired autoinflammatory disease characterized by chronic urticarial rash and monoclonal gammopathy (predominantly IgM type). A 75-year-old Japanese woman complained of high fever and non-pruritic urticarial rash appearing almost every day for 3 years. Her abnormal laboratory data included leukocytosis and neutrophilia with elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein level. Hyperglobulinemia of IgA and IgM was also noted. Histological analysis revealed perivascular and interstitial neutrophilic infiltration without any signs of vasculitis. Immuno

[Transformation of IgM-MGUS into Waldenström´s macroglobulinemia in two of six patients treated for Schnitzler´s syndrome].

Transformation of IgM-MGUS into Waldenström´s macroglobulinemia in two of six patients treated for Schnitzler´s syndrome Schnitzler´s syndrome is a very rare, adult-onset, apparently acquired autoinflammatory disease. Chronic urticarial rash and symptoms of systemic inflammation including fever, arthralgia and bone pain with the presence of monoclonal immunoglobulin M (IgM), rarely IgG, are among hallmarks of the disease. We performed a retrospective study of 6 patients (5 men, 1 woman) diagnosed with Schnitzler´s syndrome fulfilling the Strasbourg criteria who had been treated at our centre i

[Schnitzler syndrome: case report, the experience with glucocorticoid and anakinra (Kineret) therapies and monitoring of systemic cytokine response].

Schnitzler syndrome is a rare idiopathic disease characterized by chronic urtica, presence of monoclonal IgM immunoglobuline and further, less common symptoms. This case report describes another case of this disease affecting a male adult born in 1963. The first symptoms, eruptions of non-pruritic urticarial rash, appeared in this patient at the age of 43. In addition, bone pains (mainly tibias) and joint pains (mainly knees) were present. Later on however, severe attacks of fever, chills and shaking together with bone and joint pains were added to during which new urticarial eruptions appeare

The Schnitzler syndrome: chronic urticaria in disguise: a single-centre report of 11 cases and a critical reappraisal of the literature.

Acute exposure to a seizure-inducing dose of an organophosphorus nerve agent inhibits acetylcholinesterase, leading to pharmacoresistance if benzodiazepine treatment is delayed. Following soman-induced status epilepticus (SE) in rats, prolonged seizure is associated with severe and widespread neurodegeneration. We evaluated the aminothiol cystamine, the oxidized form of cysteamine, for neuroprotective potential against soman-induced SE and associated neurodegeneration. Cystamine has a myriad of effects including antioxidant properties, neuroprotective effects, and immunomodulation, among other

Improvement of recurrent urticaria in a patient with Schnitzler syndrome associated with B-cell lymphoma with combination rituximab and radiotherapy.

Schnitzler syndrome is a rare condition defined by chronic urticaria, osteosclerotic bone lesions, and monoclonal IgM gammopathy. Schnitzler syndrome can precede the onset of a true lymphoproliferative disorder including Waldenström macroglobulinemia and rarely systemic marginal zone B-cell lymphoma. We describe a case of intractable chronic urticaria accompanied by a retroperitoneal neoplasm. IgM monoclonal gammopathy, lumber pain, intermittent fever, and elevation of C-reactive protein were the clues for the diagnosis of Schnitzler syndrome. An evaluation for malignancy using systemic comput

Clinical and laboratory markers to distinguish VEXAS from Schnitzler's syndrome: data from the AIDA network registries.

BACKGROUND: A substantial overlap in demographic, clinical, and laboratory features can complicate the differential diagnosis between Schnitzler's syndrome and VEXAS syndrome. The present study was undertaken to identify clinical and laboratory parameters that should raise suspicion for VEXAS syndrome among patients previously diagnosed with, or under evaluation for, Schnitzler's syndrome. METHODS: Data from male-only patients with Schnitzler's syndrome or VEXAS syndrome were obtained from international AIDA Network registries. Subjects with Schnitzler's syndrome were compared to VEXAS patien

Paraprotein-Negative IL-1-Mediated Inflammatory Dermatosis: An Update on Schnitzler-Like Syndrome in the Absence of a Gammopathy.

Schnitzler syndrome (SchS) is a rare autoinflammatory condition characterized by chronic urticaria and systemic inflammation. Obligate diagnostic criteria include the presence of a monoclonal IgM or IgG band, with nearly all cases demonstrating a prompt response to IL-1 blockade. Recently, "Schnitzler-like" cases without a paraprotein have been reported. Although the exact nature of their relation to the original eponymous syndrome remains unclear, these cases share similar clinical features and response to IL-1 inhibition. Diagnostic delay is common in autoinflammatory syndromes, and the need

Schnitzler's syndrome: increased levels of bone formation and angiogenesis factors are reduced after successful pefloxacin treatment.

Schnitzler's syndrome is characterized by chronic urticaria and monoclonal immunoglobulin (Ig) M gammopathy, with other features including intermittent fever, joint and/or bone pain with radiologic evidence of osteosclerosis, lymphadenopathy, enlarged liver and/or spleen, leukocytosis, and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate. The etiology of the syndrome remains obscure, although involvement of various cytokines has been proposed. Bone metabolism and angiogenesis markers are deregulated in Waldenström macroglobulinemia and IgM monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance, but these marker
