Effect of light-cure time on the initial shear bond strength of a glass-ionomer adhesive.

With the introduction of photosensitive (light-cured) restorative materials in dentistry, various methods were suggested to enhance the polymerization of these materials including layering and the use of more powerful light-curing devices. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of increasing the light-cure time on the initial shear bond strength (in the first half hour) of a resin-modified glass-ionomer adhesive. Eighty-six teeth were divided into 4 groups according to either; (1) the adhesive system used, namely resin, reinforced glass ionomer, or composite, and (2) the light-

Shear strength and damage model of silty sand in Daxing 'anling under freeze-thaw cycles.

This study examines the evolution of mechanical properties of silty sand from the Daxing' anling region under coupled freeze-thaw cycles and confining pressure, using triaxial testing. The results show that at low confining pressure and with zero or limited freeze-thaw cycles, the stress-strain response exhibits strain softening, indicative of brittle failure. In contrast, at high confining pressure or after multiple freeze-thaw cycles, the behaviour transitions to strain hardening, characterised by plastic failure. Freeze-thaw cycling markedly degrades the soil's mechanical performance. The f

Polyelectrolyte Complex/MMT Hybrid for SPI/WE Adhesives with Balanced Flame Retardancy and Shear Strength.

Soybean protein isolate (SPI) adhesives are eco-friendly but suffer from poor water resistance and bonding strength. Waterborne epoxy (WE) can effectively improve these properties; however, WE-modified SPI adhesives can hardly satisfy the growing stringent flame-retardant demands for plywood. Herein, we report a composite adhesive (SPI/20WE/THPS@CS/MMT) that simultaneously exhibits favorable flame retardancy and dry and wet shear strengths. In this system, a phosphorus-, nitrogen-, and sulfur-containing polyelectrolyte complex (THPS@CS) is fabricated by vacuum-drying an ionically crosslinked p

Study on regression model of shear strength of root-soil composite under freeze-thaw action.

Currently, the deterioration mechanism of root containing soil performance under freeze-thaw cycles remains poorly understood, and existing prediction models seldom systematically account for the influence of freeze-thaw cycles. In this study, the reed root-sandy silt in the Inner Mongolia section of the Yellow River was taken as the research object. The effects of initial water content w, initial dry density ρd, confining pressure σ, root section ratio RAR and freeze-thaw cycles n on the shear strength τ, cohesion c and internal friction angle φ of reed root-sandy silt were investigated. The

Surface Activation of Zirconia Orthodontic Brackets by Multi-Gas Atmospheric Plasma: Effects on Shear Bond Strength.

Zirconia orthodontic brackets exhibit favorable mechanical and esthetic properties; however, their chemically inert surfaces can limit adhesion to resin cements. This study evaluated the effect of multi-gas atmospheric plasma irradiation on the shear bond strength (SBS) of zirconia brackets. Zirconia brackets were treated with nitrogen (N2), argon (Ar), or air plasma for 3 and 10 s and compared with untreated controls and conventional alumina-sandblasted specimens. Surface wettability was assessed by contact angle measurements, and surface chemical changes were analyzed using Fourier transform

Interfacial shear bond strength between different base metal alloys and five low fusing feldspathic ceramic systems.

This study compared the bond strength between metal alloys and 5 ceramic systems. Ceramic systems (Vita VMK68, Ivoclar IPSd. SIGN, Ceramco II, Matchmaker and Finesse) were fired onto either Ni-Cr or Co-Cr base metal alloy. Metal-ceramic interfaces were subjected to shear loading until failure. The ceramic type significantly affected the bond strength results (p<0.05). For Ni-Cr alloy, the results ranged between 15.4-25.3 MPa and for Co-Cr alloy between 13.3-19.0 MPa. The highest mean bond strength value was obtained with the combination of Ni-Cr alloy-Ceramco II (25.3 MPa), the lowest bond str

Influence of Retainer Design on Shear Bond Strength in Fixed Partial Dentures: An In Vitro Comparative Study.

BACKGROUND: Resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) are considered conservative alternatives to conventional fixed partial dentures for replacing missing teeth. However, concerns regarding retention and debonding remain, particularly in posterior regions. This study evaluated the influence of different retainer designs on the shear bond strength (SBS) of fixed partial dentures. METHODS: Fifteen monolithic zirconia fixed partial dentures were divided into three groups: conventional overlay-retained FPD (OVL), modified overlay-retained FPD (MOVL), and conventional full-coverage crown-reta

Influence of surface treatment and simulated aging on the shear bond strength of different luting agents to zirconia.

BACKGROUND: Zirconia, or stabilized zirconium oxide (ZrO2), is a widely used dental ceramic for full-coverage crowns owing to its favorable biological and esthetic properties. Upon cooling after high-temperature sintering, zirconia undergoes a tetragonal-to-monoclinic phase transformation, which causes volume expansion and brittleness. Adhesive cementation (AC) is crucial for the clinical performance of zirconia restorations, enhancing their retention, marginal adaptation and fracture resistance, thereby contributing to their suitability for dental restorations. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the pre
