Every year millions of people die due to fatal waterborne diseases around the world especially in developing countries like India. A study was performed to analyse the morphometry and morphological variants of adult scaphoid bone in Sikkimese population of North Eastern India. The study included 100 dry human scaphoid bones. The bones which had previous signs of fracture were excluded. One of the measures of change in a country's population is the Total Fertility Rate (TFR), or the average number of children a woman is expected to have during her reproductive years. A TFR of 2.1 is considered the replacement level, where the population renews itself without growing or shrinking. India's TFR has declined from 5.2 in 1971 to 1.9 in 2024 [1]. The decline is far greater in some states, going as low as 1.4 in Andhra Pradesh (AP), and 1.3 in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal [1], with the lowest at 1.0 in Sikkim, in 2023-24 [2].

AIM: To find out the epidemiology of spinal injury in North East India.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study is a retrospective hospital-based analysis of spine injury patients admitted to Central Referral Hospital, Sikkim Manipal University from July 2013 to June 2017July 2013 to June 2017.

Scrub typhus has been previously reported from north and eastern Indian states and areas such as Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, and Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It has also been known to be endemic in some parts of South India (Eastern and Western Ghats). However, no cases have ever been reported from the southern districts of West Bengal. Reports on the occurrence of sporotrichosis in some parts of north-east India are scarce. We report here five cases of lymphocutaneous sporotrichosis from north-east India, including one from Sikkim State and four from distant places in the north-eastern part of West Bengal. All patients were full or part-time farmers or gardeners. Diagnosis of sporotrichosis was confirmed by isolation of Sporothrix schenckii in culture and in vitro conversion of the isolates to yeast form. The cases were treated with 50% solution of potassium iodide.

The present study monitored medication prescribing patterns to patients treated for upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) in the pediatric outpatient department (OPD) at Central Referral Hospital (CRH), Gangtok, Sikkim. BACKGROUND: Head and face dimensions vary according to race and geographical zone. Hereditary factors also greatly affect the size and shape of the head. There are important medical applications of craniofacial data specific to different racial and ethnic groups.
METHODS: Various cranial and facial anthropometric parameters were assessed in singleton, healthy, full-term newborns of Sikkimese origin in a tertiary care hospital in Sikkim, India. The data were then analysed to determine statistically significant differences between sexes.
RESULTS: Forty-five newborns were included in the study.
