Calcitriol supplementation accelerates the recovery of patients with tuberculosis who have vitamin D deficiency: a randomized, single-blind, controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate whether calcitriol supplementation enhances CD4+ T cell count and prognosis in patients with tuberculosis and low 25(OH)D levels. METHODS: This randomized controlled clinical trial enrolled treatment-naïve patients with tuberculosis admitted to Zigong First People's Hospital (June 2016 to April 2017). The patients were grouped as the serum 25(OH)D ≥ 75 nmol/L (Normal-25(OH)D) and 25(OH)D < 75 nmol/L (Low-25(OH)D) groups. The Low-Vit-D group was randomized to the Low-25(OH)D and Low-25(OH)D-Calcitriol groups. All patients were treated with the 2HRZE/4HR

Natural unblinding of BCG vaccination trials.

There is significant public and clinical interest in the potential for Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination to protect against type 2 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) induced COVID-19. This question could be best answered by blinded and placebo controlled clinical trials. However, a skin reaction occurs within days at the site of BCG injection, making it rather challenging to blind this vaccination. Here, we examined registered clinical trials in ClinicalTrials.gov on BCG against COVID-19 by October 9th 2020, and found that 94.7% of such trials were listed as pl

Immunogenicity and safety of HavisureTM vaccine developed by Human Biologicals Institute in healthy subjects of 12 months to 49 years of age: A phase II/III, randomized, single blind, non-inferiority study.

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis A is an inflammation of the liver caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV). It is transmitted mainly because of poor personal hygiene via the faecal/oral route through ingestion of contaminated food or water or through the direct contact with an infectious person. Though most of the infected individuals recover from the infection, a few may develop fatal fulminant hepatitis. In this randomized, multicenter study, immunogenicity and safety of Havisure™ vaccine of Human Biologicals Institute was compared with Havrix® vaccine. METHODS: The study was carried out in 528 eligible

Efficacy of Aristolochia rotunda Linn in hyperuricemia: A randomised standard controlled study.

INTRODUCTION: Hyperuricemia (HU) is a health risk that may go undiagnosed and is on the rise in both developed and developing countries. Gout, the most common inflammatory arthritis characterized by painful, disabling acute attack, is widely known to be caused by hyperuricemia. Its prevalence ranges from 2.6% to 36% in different populations. The commonly used drugs for alleviating uric acid and gout have obvious side effects, so herbal therapeutic drugs are in high demand. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Aristolochia rotunda Linn in Hyperuricemia. METHO
