METHODS: Participants (13 JIA, 16 TD parent-child dyads) wore actigraphs for 10 days. Parents completed sleep diaries and sleep hygiene survey.
RESULTS: Children with JIA had significantly less total sleep time, lower sleep efficiency (SE), and longer naps than TD children. Parents of children with JIA had significantly earlier bedtimes, more wake after

BACKGROUND: Delirium is a state of altered level of consciousness often leading to confusion, inattention, and changes to levels of cognition. Delirium increases average length of stay in the hospital and costs the US health care system approximately $148 billion each year in associated medical costs. Sleep hygiene is an important factor in delirium prevention for all hospitalized patients.
OBJECTIVES: This quality improvement project was designed to increase implementation of an evidence-based sleep hygiene bundle in the neurocritical care population in order to decrease rates of hospital-ac

Background: Anxiety symptoms, stress, poor sleep, and inadequate sleep hygiene are common in university students and these affect their learning and increase attrition. However, limited knowledge exists about the inter-relationship between these factors among university students in low-middle income countries. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety symptoms and their relationship with sleep quality, sleep hygiene practices, and psychological stress. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a randomly selected sample of students in Mizan-Am

On February 6, 2023, two major earthquakes with magnitudes of 7,7 and 7,6 struck the Kahramanmaraş region in Turkey. Over 50.000 people lost their lives and more than half a million buildings were damaged as a result of these earthquakes. Earthquake survivors may develop post-traumatic stress disorder and sleep hygiene problems. This study aims to evaluate the correlation between post-traumatic stress and sleep hygiene among surviving adults six months after the February 6th Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes in Turkey. This study was conducted with 1004 earthquake survivors in 11 provinces influenced

The Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic significantly influenced physical and mental health worldwide. The present study aimed to investigate changes in sleep problems across three waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to identify potential predictors of the inter-individual variability around these changes, with a particular focus on the role of detrimental sleep hygiene practices. A total of 352 participants completed an online survey of self-report questionnaires at three different waves of the COVID-19 pandemic: T1 (Spring 2020); T2 (Autumn-Winter 2020); and T3 (Spring 2021). Psychological factors like unhealthy personality traits, trouble managing emotions and behaviors, and poor sleep habits may contribute to insomnia. But we don’t yet fully understand how these factors interact in a chain of effects that changes how severe insomnia is. This study aimed to look at how maladaptive personality traits, self-regulation, and sleep hygiene relate to insomnia severity, using a step-by-step serial mediation model. This cross-sectional study was conducted among a college student sample in Iran. A total of 483 individuals were analyzed, of whom 349 (72.3%) were female, wit

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbance and fatigue are common and distressing pediatric cancer-related outcomes. Sleep hygiene education and relaxation techniques are recommended to improve sleep in healthy children and adult cancer survivors. No studies have tested these interventions to improve sleep and fatigue for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in the home setting.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to establish the feasibility and acceptability of a sleep hygiene and relaxation intervention to improve sleep and fatigue for children receiving maintenance chemotherapy for ALL. T

BACKGROUND: Sleep hygiene strategies (SHS) are practical, evidence-informed recommendations to enhance both the quantity and quality of sleep in athletes. However, little is known about how these strategies could be communicated and implemented in practice. The primary objective of this study is to investigate how different methods of delivering SHS (written vs. verbal) affect sleep hygiene and sleep parameters in athletes.
METHODS: The study was a three-arms randomized controlled trial (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT07083544) involving track and field athletes competing at the regional o

INTRODUCTION: Depression increases during menopause, and subclinical depressive symptoms increase risk for major depression. Insomnia is common among postmenopausal women and increases depression-risk in this already-vulnerable population. Recent evidence supports the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTI) to treat menopausal insomnia, but it remains unclear whether treating insomnia also alleviates co-occurring depressive symptoms and depressogenic features. This trial tested whether CBTI improves depressive symptoms, maladaptive thinking, and somatic hyperarousal in pos
