Recent works in the field of Social Psychology have shown the importance of studying subjective social mobility from different perspectives. In the literature about subjective societal mobility, most of the research is focused on the mobility-immobility framing. However, several authors suggested studying social mobility beliefs effects differentiating according to mobility's trajectory, that is, upward (i.e., improving status over time) and downward (i.e., getting worse in status over time). The present research was motivated by the lack of measures that discriminate between beliefs in upward

The Social Attribution Task-Multiple Choice (SAT-MC) tests the ability to extract social themes from viewed object motion. This form of animacy perception is thought to aid the development of social inference, but appears impaired in schizophrenia. The current study was undertaken to examine psychometric equivalence of two forms of the SAT-MC and to compare their performance against social cognitive tests recommended for schizophrenia research. Thirty-two schizophrenia (SZ) and 30 substance use disorder (SUD) participants completed both SAT-MC forms, the Bell-Lysaker Emotion Recognition Task (

Anxiety sensitivity (AS) is an established cognitive risk factor for anxiety disorders. In children and adolescents, AS is usually measured with the Childhood Anxiety Sensitivity Index (CASI). Factor analytic studies suggest that the CASI is comprised of 3 lower-order factors pertaining to Physical, Psychological and Social Concerns. There has been little research on the validity of these lower-order factors. We examined the concurrent and incremental validity of the CASI and its lower-order factors in a non-clinical sample of 349 children and adolescents. CASI scores predicted symptoms of DSM

OBJECTIVES: The rapid global proliferation of TikTok has increased the need for culturally adapted measurement tools to assess problematic TikTok use. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the TikTok Addiction Scale (TTAS-TR) and examine its associations with social media addiction, perceived stress, and personality traits.
METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was administered to 508 Turkish TikTok users. Participants completed the TTAS-TR, the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and the Big Five Pe

BACKGROUND: Although research interest in social phobias has expanded during the last decade, a special subtype of social phobia known as paruresis, which manifests in the inability to urinate in public rest rooms, is rarely mentioned. The aim of the present study was to achieve for the first time an estimation of point prevalence in a representative male sample (n = 1,105).
METHOD: Due to the lack of well-established screening instruments for paruresis, the Paruresis Checklist (PCL) must be tested for reliability and validity. An empirically based cutoff score must be determined by using the

OBJECTIVE: The quality of our daily social interactions-including perceptions of support, feelings of loneliness, and distress stemming from negative social exchanges-influence physical health and well-being. Despite the importance of social relationships, brief yet precise unidimensional scales that assess key aspects of social relationship quality are lacking. As part of the National Institute of Health (NIH) Toolbox for the Assessment of Neurological and Behavioral Function, we developed brief self-report scales designed to assess aspects of social support, companionship, and social distres

Every research project has limitations. The limitations that authors acknowledge in their articles offer a glimpse into some of the concerns that occupy a field's attention. We examine the types of limitations authors discuss in their published articles by categorizing them according to the four validities framework and investigate whether the field's attention to each of the four validities has shifted from 2010 to 2020. We selected one journal in social and personality psychology (Social Psychological and Personality Science; SPPS), the subfield most in the crosshairs of psychology's replica

Digital interactions are increasingly central to human social life, yet existing measures of mentalizing-defined as the capacity to interpret one's own and others' mental states-are primarily designed for face-to-face contexts and fail to capture the unique cognitive-affective demands of online social networks. This research introduces the Digital Mentalizing Questionnaire (DMQ), the first multidimensional, theory-driven instrument specifically developed to assess mentalizing processes in digital environments. Across three studies (N1 = 278, N2 = 375, N3 = 341; participants in Studies 1, 2, an

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the power card strategy (PCS) in teaching children with developmental disabilities (DD) how to respond safely to the presence of cleaning chemicals. One female and two male participants with DD, aged 8-14, took part in the study, which was conducted using a multiple-probe-across-participants design. The study's findings showed that the PCS was effective in teaching poison prevention skills to children with DD. All the participants were able to learn the target skill and maintain and generalize their learning. Social validity data were also collected fr

Dynamic Assessment (DA) has been shown to have more predictive value than conventional tests for academic performance. However, in relation to reading difficulties, further research is needed to determine the predictive validity of DA for specific aspects of the different processes involved in reading and the differential validity of DA for different subgroups of students with an academic disadvantage. This paper analyzes the implementation of a DA device that evaluates processes involved in reading (EDPL) among 60 students with reading comprehension difficulties between 9 and 16 years of age,

BACKGROUND: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is the most common psychiatric disorder of adolescence and appears to be increasing in prevalence. Early detection can reduce negative outcomes. The Severity Measure for Social Anxiety Disorder-Child 11-17 (SAD-DY) was the first youth social anxiety measure developed based on the DSM-5, however, psychometric evaluation is needed.
METHOD: A community sample of 315 Australian adolescents aged 11 to 17 years was surveyed online. Participants completed the SAD-DY, along with measures of convergent and discriminant validity.
RESULTS: The measure was found

The Self-Beliefs related to Social Anxiety (SBSA) scale assesses maladaptive social-evaluative beliefs, a key aspect in models of social anxiety disorder (SAD) that is frequently measured in research and clinical contexts. The SBSA has been evaluated psychometrically in student samples, but not in a large sample of individuals diagnosed with SAD. The current study tested the psychometric properties of the SBSA in a sample of individuals with SAD pooled from several studies (total N = 284). Results showed that the optimal factor structure for the SBSA was a correlated three-factor model (high s

BACKGROUND: Fatigue research remains important across a wide range of fields. In Japan, fatigue has become a major social issue, and research using Japanese population data is expected to contribute to both practical interventions and theoretical advances. Although several Japanese scales for assessing fatigue have been developed, brief instruments designed to measure fatigue during ongoing activity are limited. Therefore, this study translated the Rating of Fatigue (ROF) scale into Japanese and examined the validity of the Japanese version (ROF-J).
METHODS: First, the original ROF was transl

Bladder cancer is a common malignant tumor, and patients who have undergone radical cystectomy and urinary diversion require a lifelong abdominal stoma. This greatly affects their physiological, psychological, and social well-being. However, there is currently a lack of a self-assessment outcome scale specifically designed for bladder cancer patients with abdominal stomas. Therefore, we developed and validated a self-assessment outcome scale (PROS-BCAS) for Chinese bladder cancer patients with abdominal stomas. The scale was initially developed through literature research and expert consultati
