Renal function and magnesium clearance in young and old cows given potassium chloride and sodium citrate.

Six young (3 yr old) and six old (8 to 11 yr old) cows were used to examine renal function, KCl and sodium citrate effects on Mg clearance rate and the relation of parathyroid hormone (PTH) to Mg reabsorption. The treatments were 1.5 g KCl/kg body weight (BW) and 1.5 g Na citrate/kg BW. Inulin and p-aminohippuric acid (PAH) clearance rates were used as measures of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and effective renal plasma flow (ERPF), respectively, in control cows on each treatment day. Creatinine clearance rate was also used as a measure of GFR in all cows. Magnesium loading (2.4 mg/kg BW) t

Effect of sodium citrate on performance and metabolism of human skeletal muscle during supramaximal cycling exercise.

The aim of this study was to examine whether the alkalosis-induced improvement in supramaximal performance could be explained by a less-altered muscle metabolic status. Eight subjects first performed exhausting exercise at 120% peak oxygen uptake after ingesting either a placebo (PLC) or sodium citrate (CIT) at a dose of 0.5 g.kg-1 body mass to determine exhaustion time (texh). They then, performed exercise (Lim-EX) at the same relative intensity lasting PLCtexh minus 20 s in both treatments. Samples were taken from vastus lateralis muscle at rest (90-min after the ingestion) and at the end of

The effect of sodium citrate ingestion on the metabolic response to intense exercise following diet manipulation in man.

Feeding a high-carbohydrate (CHO) diet and administration of alkalinizing agents have both been shown to improve performance in high-intensity exercise. The effect of these treatments in combination was investigated in the present study. Six healthy male subjects exercised to exhaustion on an electrically braked cycle ergometer at a power output equivalent to 100% of their maximum oxygen uptake (VO2,max) on four separate occasions. Each subject consumed either a diet with the same composition as his normal diet (termed the experimental normal (N) diet; 54 +/- 7% CHO, 13 +/- 2% protein, 33 +/-

Bi/mZVI Combined with Citric Acid and Sodium Citrate to Mineralize Multiple Sulfa Antibiotics: Performance and Mechanism.

The oxidative mineralization of sulfanilamide drugs (SAs) using micro-size zero-valent iron (mZVI) cooperated with a citric acid buffer solution was evaluated. In this study SM2, SMX, and SD could be removed at 66%, 89%, and 83%, respectively, in a 0.5% Bi/mZVI+CA+NaCA system within 2 h. Based on our analysis, the produced ·OH could be ascribed from the complexation between citrate iron (Fe(II)[Cit]-) and the generated H2O2 resulting from the activation of O2 on the mZVI surface in the Bi/mZVI+CA+NaCA system, further inducing the mineralization of antibiotics. The related possible degradation

Protection from gastrointestinal side-effects by azapropazone by its incorporation into a glucose-sodium acid citrate formulation.

Addition of glucose and sodium citrate to azapropazone, in proportions of 1:1:1 by weight reduced gastric mucosal damage in rats and there was a trend towards reduction in radiolabelled faecal red cell loss in human volunteers compared with that with azapropazone alone. The glucose and citrate did not affect the pharmacokinetics of azapropazone, or its therapeutic efficacy. While no difference was observed in endoscopic injury and in symptomatic gastrointestinal complaints in a multicentre comparison in rheumatic patients, a striking reduction in symptoms was observed in those patients with a

Efficacy and safety of ferric citrate hydrate compared with sodium ferrous citrate in Japanese patients with iron deficiency anemia: a randomized, double-blind, phase 3 non-inferiority study.

Oral iron preparations are used as first-line treatment for iron deficiency anemia (IDA), but their gastrointestinal side effects prevent patients from appropriate adherence. We recently conducted a randomized, double-blind, phase 3 non-inferiority study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of two dosages of ferric citrate hydrate (FC) compared with sodium ferrous citrate (SF) in patients with IDA. FC at both 500 and 1000 mg/day was non-inferior to SF at 100 mg/day in terms of the change in the hemoglobin concentration at Week 7 from baseline. Logistic regression analysis suggested that the cum

Improving Methanol Utilization by Reducing Alcohol Oxidase Activity and Adding Co-Substrate of Sodium Citrate in Pichia pastoris.

Methanol, which produced in large quantities from low-quality coal and the hydrogenation of CO2, is a potentially renewable one-carbon (C1) feedstock for biomanufacturing. The methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris is an ideal host for methanol biotransformation given its natural capacity as a methanol assimilation system. However, the utilization efficiency of methanol for biochemical production is limited by the toxicity of formaldehyde. Therefore, reducing the toxicity of formaldehyde to cells remains a challenge to the engineering design of a methanol metabolism. Based on genome-scale metabo
