Two methods for modeling of sick sinus syndrome in rats: Ischemia reperfusion and sodium hydroxide induced injury.

The Sick Sinus Syndrome (SSS) is a serious life-threatening heart disease. It is important to establish a credible and stable sinus node damage model. In this study, we use two methods to construct an SSS damage model in rats. One is to inject sodium hydroxide to the SSS area through internal jugular vein. Another is to cause ischemia-reperfusion injury on the SSS area. 43 healthy SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups, namely ischemia-reperfusion injury group (IRIG), inject sodium hydroxide group (ISHG), and propranolol group (PG) and the control group (CG). The achievement ratio of mode

Gastrointestinal mucosal damages caused by ingestion of corrosive substances: A case study of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide.

Ingestion of corrosive substances is most common in children, while in adults causes more severe damages. Massive ingestion of corrosive substances results in severe damage to the gastrointestinal tract and oropharynx if not treated properly. Corrosive substances with pH<2 or >12 can result in severe esophageal damage with either colliquative (alkaline) or coagulative (acidic) necrosis and, at the same time various gastrointestinal injuries could lead to late post-corrosive complications. The aim of the case study was to report the gastrointestinal mucosal damages due to hydrochloric acid (HCl

Simultaneous recovery of short-chain fatty acids and phosphorus during lipid-rich anaerobic fermentation with sodium hydroxide conditioning.

Anaerobic fermentation (AF) could achieve simultaneous recovery of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and phosphorus (P) when waste activated sludge (WAS) and meat processing waste (MPW) act as co-substrate. However, long-chain fatty acids, the degradation intermediates of lipids, always inhibit anaerobic microbial activity. Therefore, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) conditioning was applied to improve the lipid-rich AF performance in this study. The results demonstrated that 96% WAS (v/v) with NaOH addition that remaining at pH 7.5 could achieve the maximum SCFAs yield (1180.05 mg/g VSfed) at 12 d, and

Comparative study of ethanol production from sodium hydroxide pretreated rice straw residue using Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Zymomonas mobilis.

Rice straw is a suitable alternative to a cheaper carbohydrate source for the production of ethanol. For pretreatment efficiency, different sodium hydroxide concentrations (0.5-2.5% w/v) were tested. When compared to other concentrations, rice straw processed with 2% NaOH (w/v) yielded more sugar (8.17 ± 0.01 mg/ml). An alkali treatment induces effective delignification and swelling of biomass. The pretreatment of rice straw with 2% sodium hydroxide (w/v) is able to achieve 55.34% delignification with 53.30% cellulose enrichment. The current study shows the effectiveness of crude cellulolytic

Mechanical behaviors and probabilistic multiphase network model of polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel after being immersed in sodium hydroxide solution.

Because of the advantages of a uniform distribution of reinforcing particles and in situ preparation, in situ precipitation has become an important way to prepare magnetic and other smart hydrogels. An important step in this process is to immerse hydrogels in alkaline solution to implant magnetic particles. Previous studies generally have ignored the effect of this process on the network structure and mechanical properties of hydrogels. In this study, we immersed polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel samples in sodium hydroxide solutions of different concentrations to study changes in mechanical pr

Potassium bromate (KBrO3) modulates oxidative stress and inflammatory biomarkers in sodium hydroxide (NaOH) - induced Crohn's colitis in Wistar rats.

Potassium bromate (KBrO3) present in consumed ozonised water was recently documented to exacerbate experimental gastric ulcer. Information, however, is vague as regards its effects in the colon where water reabsorption occurs. In this study, we observed the possible effects of KBrO3 on oxidative stress and inflammatory biomarkers in sodium hydroxide (NaOH) - induced Crohn's colitis (CC). Wistar rats (180-200 g) were divided into six groups (n = 10): (i) control; (ii) untreated CC (induced by 1.4% NaOH; intra-rectal administration); and (iii-vi) CC treated with vitamin E, KBrO3, vitamin E+KBrO3

A Derived Moving Reaction Boundary Initially Created by Formic Buffer and Sodium Hydroxide in Capillary Electrophoresis: Theoretic and Experimental Study.

In this article, we investigate a derived moving reaction boundary (MRB) generated upon current application in a discontinuous electrolyte system consisting of formic buffer (anolyte) and sodium hydroxide (catholyte). The model showcases the formations of two derived zones, including an acidic zone (Zone β1) and an alkaline zone (Zone β2), and the subsequent development of a derived MRB between Zones β1 and β2. The proposed model was validated through numerical simulations and experiments using capillary electrophoresis and gel-based visualization, with insulin and phenylalanine selected as mo
