Spatial homogeneity pursuit of regression coefficients for hand, foot and mouth disease in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2018.

To explore the complex spatial pattern between the incidence of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and meteorological factors [average temperature (AT), average relative humidity (ARH), average air pressure (AP), average wind speed (AW)], this paper constructed a Spatial Clustering coefficient (SCC) regression model to detect spatial clustering patterns of each regression coefficients in different seasons. The results revealed that compared with geographically weighted regression (GWR), the coefficients estimated by SCC method were more smooth with clearly identified spatial and improved edg

Impact of urbanization factors on mortality due to unintentional injuries using panel data regression model and spatial-temporal analysis.

Unintentional injuries pose a great risk for human health in China. Few studies have focused on unintentional injuries at national level from urbanization perspective. The panel data of mortality rate of transportation accidents (TA), fall and drowning and sinking (DS) is investigated, and urbanization development index is collected. Global Moran's I and linear regression of panel data are applied to determine the spatial distribution and spatial influencing factors of unintentional injuries. The results are the following: (1) The unintentional injury such as TA, fall, and DS shows clear non-u

Regressive Saccades During Reading: Effects of Target Distance and the Role of Individual Differences in Spatial Memory and Linguistic Skill.

The current study examined the control of long-range regressive eye movements during sentence reading. Skilled readers were asked to read single-line sentences for comprehension. As a secondary task, they identified a probe word presented to the right of each sentence, and then went back to check the corresponding target word for spelling errors that had been added after reading. The regression target was located either close to or far from the probe. Consistent with prior work, initial regressions were larger for far than for near targets, and the finding of far targets required more eye move

Uncovering spatiotemporal development patterns of AIDS in China: A study using panel data with Joinpoint Regression analysis and Spatial Clustering.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic in China is severe and complex. Comprehensive spatiotemporal analysis provides valuable insights for intervention policy formulation. Previous studies often overlooked local changes in time trends and regional disease development patterns. In this study, we propose a new spatiotemporal analysis method based on the Joinpoint Regression (JPR) model and K-means clustering to refine the division of stages in China's AIDS epidemic and differentiate geographical areas based on development patterns. We then use hotspot analysis to describe the current status of AIDS, presenting

Spatial regression analysis of MR diffusion reveals subject-specific white matter changes associated with repetitive head impacts in contact sports.

Repetitive head impacts (RHI) are a growing concern due to their possible neurocognitive effects, with research showing a season of RHI produce white matter (WM) changes seen on neuroimaging. We conducted a secondary analysis of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) data for 28 contact athletes to compare WM changes. We collected pre-season and post-season DTI scans for each subject, approximately 3 months apart. We collected helmet data for the athletes, which we correlated with DTI data. We adapted the SPatial REgression Analysis of DTI (SPREAD) algorithm to conduct subject-specific longitudinal DT

Bayesian Spatial Conditional Logistic Regression Modelling of Overweight/Obesity Prevalence and Determinants Among Women in Ghana, Accounting for Contraceptive Use.

INTRODUCTION: Overweight/obesity (OW/OB) poses a major public health challenge among reproductive-aged women across most LMICs, including Ghana. The continuous rise in maternal average BMI coupled with fragile healthcare system makes surveillance and interventions to reverse the trend in Ghana as well as most sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries, a pertinent issue. OBJECTIVE: This study identifies risk factors associated with OW/OB among reproductive-aged women in Ghana, accounting for spatial autocorrelation and the potential confounding effect of modern contraceptive use (MCU). It also provi

Mobile Monitoring and Land Use Regression Modeling of Ultrafine Particle Spatial Distribution in Beijing, China, during August 2022-July 2023.

Ultrafine particles (UFP, <100 nm) may pose more significant health risks compared to larger particulate matter due to higher specific surface area and potential for deposition throughout the respiratory system. However, their spatial distribution remains poorly characterized, particularly in Asian megacities such as Beijing with high population density and diverse emission sources. We developed a high-resolution land use regression (LUR) model to predict UFP spatial distribution in Beijing during August 2022-July 2023, using stop-and-go mobile monitoring data from 164 sites. Time adjustments

Modelling the spatial distribution of Fasciola hepatica in bovines using decision tree, logistic regression and GIS query approaches for Brazil.

Fascioliasis is a condition caused by the trematode Fasciola hepatica. In this paper, the spatial distribution of F. hepatica in bovines in Brazil was modelled using a decision tree approach and a logistic regression, combined with a geographic information system (GIS) query. In the decision tree and the logistic model, isothermality had the strongest influence on disease prevalence. Also, the 50-year average precipitation in the warmest quarter of the year was included as a risk factor, having a negative influence on the parasite prevalence. The risk maps developed using both techniques, show

A spatial regression model for the disaggregation of areal unit based data to high-resolution grids with application to vaccination coverage mapping.

The growing demand for spatially detailed data to advance the Sustainable Development Goals agenda of 'leaving no one behind' has resulted in a shift in focus from aggregate national and province-based metrics to small areas and high-resolution grids in the health and development arena. Vaccination coverage is customarily measured through aggregate-level statistics, which mask fine-scale heterogeneities and 'coldspots' of low coverage. This paper develops a methodology for high-resolution mapping of vaccination coverage using areal data in settings where point-referenced survey data are inacce

Land use regression models to estimate the annual and seasonal spatial variability of sulfur dioxide and particulate matter in Tehran, Iran.

The Middle Eastern city of Tehran, Iran has poor air quality compared with cities of similar size in Europe and North America. Spatial annual and seasonal patterns of SO2 and PM10 concentrations were estimated using land use regression (LUR) methods applied to data from 21 air quality monitoring stations. A systematic algorithm for LUR model building was developed to select variables based on (1) consistency with a priori assumptions about the assumed directions of the effects, (2) a p-value of <0.1 for each predictor, (3) improvements to the leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV) R(2), (4) a

Comparison of regression models with land-use and emissions data to predict the spatial distribution of traffic-related air pollution in Rome.

Spatial modeling of traffic-related air pollution typically involves either regression modeling of land-use and traffic data or dispersion modeling of emissions data, but little is known to what extent land-use regression models might be improved by incorporating emissions data. The aim of this study was to develop a land-use regression model to predict nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations and compare its performance with a model including emissions data. The association between each land-use variable and NO2 concentrations at 68 locations in Rome in 1995 and 1996 was assessed by univariate l

Use of geographically weighted logistic regression to quantify spatial variation in the environmental and sociodemographic drivers of leptospirosis in Fiji: a modelling study.

BACKGROUND: Leptospirosis is a globally important zoonotic disease, with complex exposure pathways that depend on interactions between human beings, animals, and the environment. Major drivers of outbreaks include flooding, urbanisation, poverty, and agricultural intensification. The intensity of these drivers and their relative importance vary between geographical areas; however, non-spatial regression methods are incapable of capturing the spatial variations. This study aimed to explore the use of geographically weighted logistic regression (GWLR) to provide insights into the ecoepidemiology

Use of generalized additive models and cokriging of spatial residuals to improve land-use regression estimates of nitrogen oxides in Southern California.

Land-use regression (LUR) models have been developed to estimate spatial distributions of traffic-related pollutants. Several studies have examined spatial autocorrelation among residuals in LUR models, but few utilized spatial residual information in model prediction, or examined the impact of modeling methods, monitoring site selection, or traffic data quality on LUR performance. This study aims to improve spatial models for traffic-related pollutants using generalized additive models (GAM) combined with cokriging of spatial residuals. Specifically, we developed spatial models for nitrogen d

Spatial modeling of health risks from heavy metals in urban Road dust using land-use regression: a case study of Arak, Iran.

Heavy metal (HM) contamination in urban road dust (RD) represents a significant environmental and public health concern, particularly in densely populated and industrialized regions. This study investigated the spatial distribution and associated health risks of cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) in RD across various land-use types in Arak, Iran. During a nine-month sampling campaign, 160 RD samples were collected from twenty strategic locations representing industrial, residential, commercial, and high-traffic zones. Land-use regression (LUR) modeling was emplo

Spatial variation of zero fruits/vegetables consumption and associated factors among children aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia: geographical weighted regression analysis.

BACKGROUND: After 6 months, nutrient-dense, varied diets containing fruits and vegetables are crucial to supplement breastfeeding. Like many other low-income countries, Ethiopia has very low FV consumption. Zero vegetable or fruit (ZVF) consumption has been shown to significantly raise the risk of non-communicable diseases and has been ranked among the top 10 risk factors for mortality. And it is associated with poor health, an increased risk of obesity, and a higher risk of non-communicable diseases. Thus, this study's goal was to investigate the spatial distribution of ZVF consumption and it

Consequences of kriging and land use regression for PM2.5 predictions in epidemiologic analyses: insights into spatial variability using high-resolution satellite data.

Many epidemiological studies use predicted air pollution exposures as surrogates for true air pollution levels. These predicted exposures contain exposure measurement error, yet simulation studies have typically found negligible bias in resulting health effect estimates. However, previous studies typically assumed a statistical spatial model for air pollution exposure, which may be oversimplified. We address this shortcoming by assuming a realistic, complex exposure surface derived from fine-scale (1 km × 1 km) remote-sensing satellite data. Using simulation, we evaluate the accuracy of epidem
