Determination of the mercury complex formed with Thiomicher's ketone (TMK) was improved by beta-correction spectrophotometry in the presence of a nonionic surfactant at pH 5. The complex formed was Hg(TMK)2, and its true molar absorptivity is reported for the first time: epsilon Hg(TMK)2(560) = 1.04 x 10(5) L/mol.cm. In addition, the stability constant of Hg(TMK)2 was equal to 3.64 x 10(10) at an ion strength of 0.01 at 20 degrees C. Results from analyses of wastewater samples showed that the relative standard deviations were < or = 8.3%, and the recoveries of mercury ranged from 90 to 110%.

A new analytical method for observation of the metabolic status of butyltin compounds in the mouse liver was devised by a combination of extraction, purification and separation followed by quantitative analysis of each butyltin compound. After the extraction of all tin compounds from liver homogenate with ethyl acetate, these compounds were purified by combination of the fractional extract with organic solvents and column chromatography. This paper describes that the absorption spectrum of bilirubin solution was changed obviously by photo-oxidation. The absorbance was measured at 453 nm before and after light irradiation. The contents of bilirubin of ox gallstone in Liuying pills, Liushen pills and Niuhuang Xiaoyan pills were determined by differential absorbance (delta A). Calibration graph was linear in the range of 1.6-8.0 micrograms/ml for delta A. The average recoveries for three Chinese patent medicines were over 93%. Determinations of bilirubin in Chinese patent medicines were not affected by other components.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) increases neuronal energy consumption and alters systemic hemodynamics. We examined the effects of ECT on regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSo2) using a near-infrared spectro-photometer. Heart rate (HR), mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), and rSo2 were continuously monitored throughout ECT under general anesthesia in 43 patients. Dacryoliths are uncommon causes of partial or complete obstruction of the nasolacrimal drainage apparatus. We report our findings of a dacryolith that we studied by culture, light microscopy, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, and scanning electron microscopy. Although no fungi were recovered by culturing, hyphae-like structures were observed. No inorganic material was detected by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Scanning electron microscopy of ultrastructure showed the stone was composed of lobes and lobules built on an amorphous core material.

Applying a fast scanning reflection spectrophotometer and multicomponent spectra analysis, oxygen saturation (SHb) and relative concentration (CHb) of hemoglobin in the skin were determined at eight skin sites in 11 healthy persons. SHb was significantly higher at the tip of the index finger and big toe (90 +/- 3.9 and 92 +/- 4.2%, respectively) compared with the forehead, volar forearm, back of hand, abdomen, calf and forefoot where mean values varied between 52 and 67% (p < 0.001). This paper report the development of the determination of trace metal Cr in medical material progesterone by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. After the organic compounds are eliminated by HNO3-H2O4 to decomposite completely, the sample is determinated by FAAS. The method is convenient and the results show good precision and accuracy.
