Developing a diverse talent pool starting at the high-school level, while students are making future education and career decisions, should be a national priority, given the need to build a diverse health-care workforce. This article describes a 6-week immersive simulation-based summer program to introduce 20 junior high-school students (13-15 years old) to the range of health professions. Because precollege students typically receive limited exposure to clinical settings, high-fidelity simulation is an excellent surrogate for providing realistic experiences in health care. Students heard lect

Background. Fieldwork is essential in postsecondary health professions programs and can present challenges for disabled students. Fieldwork coordinators, responsible for student placements, play a pivotal role in supporting disabled students. However, limited research exists regarding the experiences of these coordinators in accommodating students with disabilities. Purpose. This mixed methods study aims to understand the perspectives of academic fieldwork coordinators in occupational therapy programs, focusing on their practices to support disabled students and promote a sense of inclusion. BACKGROUND/AIM: Professional practise placements in occupational therapy education are critical to ensuring graduate competence. Australian occupational therapy accreditation standards allow up to 200 of a mandated 1000 placement hours to include simulation-based learning. There is, however, minimal evidence about the effectiveness of simulation-based placements compared to traditional placements in occupational therapy. We evaluated whether occupational therapy students completing a 40 hour (one week block) Simulated Clinical Placement (SCP) attained non-inferior learning outcomes to students

INTRODUCTION: Occupational therapists play a crucial role in supporting students' participation in primary school by assessing factors that influence their performance. Measurement tools are essential for identifying supports and barriers to participation; however, their alignment with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health-Child and Youth Version remains unclear.
OBJECTIVE: This scoping review was aimed at identifying available measurement tools used in occupational therapy practice in the primary school setting and mapping their focus according to the Intern

BACKGROUND: Although health disparities are commonly addressed in preclinical didactic curricula, direct patient care activities with affected communities are more limited.
PURPOSE: To address this problem, health professional students designed a preclinical service-learning curriculum on hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection, a major health disparity affecting the Asian/Pacific Islander (API) population, integrating lectures, skills training, and direct patient care at student-run clinics.
SETTING: An urban health professions campus.
METHODS: Medical and other health professional students at U

As the academic year begins, nurses are set to help students living away from home for the first time with their health and emotional needs. Each educational institution organises student health services. Loneliness can be a particular problem for overseas students. Students can be at risk from diseases such as mumps and meningitis. Drug and alcohol misuse are serious concerns.

INTRODUCTION: People with disabilities are underrepresented in health professions education and practice. Barriers for inclusion include stigma, disabling discourses, discriminatory programme design and oppressive interactions. Current understandings of this topic remain descriptive and fragmented. Existing research often includes only one profession, excludes particular types of disability and focuses on one aspect of the career journey. To expand understanding, we examined the recurrent forms of social relations that underlie the participation of disabled individuals in learning and practice

People with disabilities (PWD) comprise a significant part of the population yet experience some of the most profound health disparities. Among the greatest barriers to quality care are inadequate health professions education related to caring for PWD. Drawing upon the expertise of health professions educators in medicine, public health, nursing, social work, and physician assistant programs, this forum showcases innovative methods for teaching core disability skills and concepts grounded in disability studies and the health humanities. Each of the essays offers practical guidance for developi

BACKGROUND: Student failure creates additional economic costs. Knowing the cost of failure helps to frame its economic burden relative to other educational issues, providing an evidence-base to guide priority setting and allocation of resources. The Ingredients Method is a cost-analysis approach which has been previously applied to health professions education research. In this study, the Ingredients Method is introduced, and applied to a case study, investigating the cost of pre-clinical student failure.
METHODS: The four step Ingredients Method was introduced and applied: (1) identify and s

In this qualitative study of managed health care and occupational therapy practice, participants described how their practice had changed, suggested that students be educated to communicate the value of occupational therapy and to navigate corporate medicine, and expressed ethical concerns regarding reimbursement versus therapy goals. In-person, individual, focused interviews were conducted with 25 therapists in the southeastern Atlantic states. Participants' perceptions ofpervasive changes in practice due to managed health care reflected three themes of meaning: the "pushing against it" perso

UVB from the sun and intake from food are the only human sources of vitamin D. Tibet is a unique region for comparisons of these sources: (1) it lies at a low latitude and at a high altitude and has very large annual fluences of UVB; (2) the traditional Tibetan food is poor in vitamin D. Blood samples were taken from 63 persons of different age, with different occupations and staying at different places. UVB doses at these places were measured. The samples were analyzed by a standard radioimmune assay for determination of the serum concentration of 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D). The main findi

The integration of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) into health professions education remains limited, particularly regarding its potential to support deeper learning, ethical reasoning, and personalization. Current discourse often focuses on institutional risk or faculty productivity, with less emphasis on genAI's role in student learning. This study presents a theory-informed model for using genAI to scaffold engagement and professional growth in a graduate-level occupational therapy research methods course. Drawing from personalized learning theory and constructivist pedagogy, we

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Healthcare students' attitudes towards dementia are crucial to the quality of care. Experiential learning is a promising strategy; however, the comparative effectiveness of its various modalities remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the impact of experiential learning interventions on healthcare students' attitudes towards dementia.
METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across eight databases (e.g., PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library) for studies published up to August 2024. A total of 2,350 articles were initially i
